Chapter 360 - 147. Demon God Pillar

Chapter 360: 147. Demon God Pillar

In the moment after Erwin had finished speaking, Fisher faintly sensed a massive change in the water streams around him. He frowned and looked at the ground, only to discover that vines covered in green leaves were spreading across the floor, and from the cracks created during the recent battle, the entire Treasury’s space was being silently occupied by those terrifying vines.

However, those weren’t real trees. If one observed closely, they would see that those twisted, withered branches were full of eyes, like cherries.

The very instant those eyes appeared, the water on the ground began to turn extremely viscous. Suddenly, the Treasury Hall behind him collapsed, and as Fisher turned his head, he saw the crystal-cast Mother Goddess Statue, which for some unknown reason had become animated.

The Mother Goddess’s head fell off, from which sprouted numerous distorted arms, propelling it forward inexorably.

In that instant, the entire Treasury seemed to come alive. Fisher extended his Fluid Sword tentatively and struck the branches, but the moment they broke, they regrew more flesh-and-blood branches, as if there was an endless supply.

"What surprises me is why Mr. Fisher didn’t read the knowledge in the Soul Completion Manual after acquiring it? During your battle with Blake, you didn’t use any knowledge about the soul to aid you. Had you read that knowledge, perhaps you could still be fighting now..."

"Read it and become a madman like you?"

Fisher clutched his abdomen, watching as the surrounding vegetation grew relentlessly yet intelligently avoided the fallen Moli. He finally let out a sigh of relief and focused all his efforts on the enemy before him.

The surrounding plants couldn’t be killed; he could only try to kill Erwin’s main body.

With a sudden twist of his Fluid Sword, numerous vine-like arms continuously grew from beneath the Treasury’s floor, wrapping tightly around Fisher’s body. As soon as these branch-like appendages reached him, they began draining the blood from his body like Bone-attaching Maggots.

The numerous branches pulled Fisher down like a vortex made of flesh, and the floor of the Treasury whirled like a vortex. Gritting his teeth, he looked down only to see incomplete bodies beckoning him, like a paradise of Hell.

In that moment, the entire underground seemed to have become part of Erwin’s body, and as more blood was drawn, Fisher’s complexion grew paler and paler.

"Mr. Fisher, you are ultimately a man living in the mortal world, and Philone has this flaw, too... When you can one day extend your vision further, to the scale of the whole world, the entire society across time, and look back, only then will you understand that, aside from the Truth, everything else is meaningless."

"Transitory and fragile characters and emotions are but a burden to people like us. Only a heart that unwaveringly pursues the Truth is eternal."

Fisher wasted no words. His Fluid Sword flew out at the will of his mind, piercing through countless entwining branches and heading straight for Erwin’s true form.

Spinning in mid-air, the Fluid Sword quickly bisected the standing Erwin, but through Fisher’s eyes, he watched as his body was abruptly split in two, blood flowing out, and then there was silence.

But in the next moment, a large beak grew out from the branches around him, staring directly at Fisher.

"Look, the confinement of the flesh means nothing to me. No matter how hard you try, you can’t kill me. This is the power of knowledge. In places beyond what Mr. Fisher’s eyes can see, do you know how the human body is composed? Do you know how people contract diseases? Hypocritical morality and sermons can’t save the people of now or the future..."

Fisher looked straight at the person before him, his expression unchanged. The Fluid Sword, answering his call, flew back and plunged into the body of the person before him. The violent blade chewed through the branches one by one. Fisher had no time to catch his breath when a violent force struck his back.

The headless Mother Goddess Statue, overtaken by the branches, suddenly appeared and sent Fisher flying. Every bone in his body cried out in agony. Gritting his teeth, he used the Fluid Sword to draw a long mark on the ground, finally stopping himself. Exhausted, he lay on the ground, his vision tinged with blood, breathing with all his might. He looked up at the huge cavern created by Anna, beyond which lay the azure sky of Saint Nali.

Fisher did not doubt that this might be the last time he would see such beautiful skies, so in this second, he greedily recorded the scenery in his mind.

Could this be his end, perhaps a punishment from the Mother Goddess for his greed and hesitation?

"Buzz, buzz, buzz..."

"Mr. Fisher, do you need to rest for a while?"

The stone walls around the cavern in the sky further extended those fleshy branches, gradually enveloping the entire space. But just before the cavern was completely encased, Fisher glanced up and faintly saw a red Star in the sky, twinkling with a faint light.
