Chapter 313: 127. Life and Death Thin Line _3
"Boom!"
"Damn it!"
Old Jack suddenly embraced the firearms in his hands, rolling towards the side of the road without any other movement. As he rolled, his aged back flashed in pain, and his wrinkled face scrunched up as he clutched his back, gasping for breath without being able to speak.
"Damn! My back, you demi-human..."
"Sorry... I didn’t mean to, I can’t bear to look... Ah! They are coming!"
Despite apologizing instinctively, Moli kept her eyes closed, wildly swinging a streetlight towards the Human Worms ahead, causing cracks to form on the ground, not to mention directly hitting the flesh and blood bodies of the Human Worms.
Many Human Worms covered by the shadow of the streetlight were smashed on the spot, releasing a pungent, foul smell. Moli held her breath, focusing solely on combat.
In truth, Moli, who had undergone battle training, should not be so afraid, but the appearance of these Human Worms was indeed too hideous. They looked like humanoid toads stripped of their skin, their faces bearing a mishmash of human features, taking the terror of the uncanny valley to the extreme.
Even ordinary warriors would feel a chill down their spine, let alone this adorable young lady from the Whale-man Species.
"Spurt!"
As the Human Worms were being flattened, a thick green, stinkingly acidic liquid suddenly spurted from beneath a nearby waterfall, falling like raindrops onto the road beside and piercing the streetlight in Moli’s hand halfway through.
Moli caught a glimpse of another blob of sticky fluid heading for Old Jack on the ground, her pupils dilated slightly. She quickly reached out and pulled Old Jack back, but her arms were consequently smeared by the corrosive acid.
A burning sensation caused her to grimace in pain, and as her eyes reddened slightly, she gently stretched out her hand to completely heal the red wound. The blue streams in her eyes circulated, and Old Jack, witnessing the miraculous healing, couldn’t help but ask,
"Are you... a demi-human from the ocean?"
"Huh? Grandpa, you know about the demi-humans from the sea floor?"
"How could I know? I’m not interested in demi-humans..."
Old Jack turned away, the corners of his mouth trembling slightly from the back pain as he slowly stood up with his firearms. But his aged voice carried on,
"I’ve read the manuscripts about demi-humans researched by my son. He speculated that there might be demi-humans on the sea floor, and he always wanted to see with his own eyes what intelligent life might look like if it existed at the bottom of the sea..."
"Is that so? If there’s time later, I’ll invite you and Fisher to come with me to the sea floor... Ah! But you can’t breathe underwater, which really is..."
Old Jack’s body stiffened slightly, but this time when he turned back, there was a hint of a smile,
"There will be an opportunity."
"Roar!"
A massive shark with countless heads shot out from underneath Snake Head Street. The large amount of acid emitted had come from it as it merged several three-headed sharks into a single huge, twisted monstrosity.
That blood basin opened wide, aiming directly at the Son of the Sea, Moli, who was still in place.
Moli had no time to do anything else; she instinctively pushed Old Jack away while she herself remained within the swallowing range of the massive jaw.
"Whimper!"
She fearfully hugged her head and crouched down, watching helplessly as the stinking, steaming abyss closed in on her.
In a flash of lightning, life and death hung by a thread.
