Chapter 312: 127. Life and Death Thin Line _2

The river channel ahead suddenly narrowed, and Moli, while turning back to check on Fisher’s condition, inadvertently slammed into the wall at the edge of the river. She blocked the impact with her arm, so the unconscious Fisher was unharmed.

"Ahh ahh!"

But the next second, a chilling and terrifying roar echoed behind her. Moli felt her soul about to fly away, but remembering that Fisher was still leaning on her back, she clenched her teeth and held onto Fisher’s body tightly to prevent him from leaving her side.

Since Fisher trusted her so much, she was determined to ensure his safety!

Fisher’s presence gave her courage. She fought the fear that stung her eyes, twisted her body in the waterway, and with a fierce slap of her tail, she struck the head of the oncoming human shark. It was like striking a watermelon with an iron rod; her tail smashed the shark’s three heads to pieces.

But the shark did not die; rather, it flailed in the water as if it had lost its eyes, roaring and struggling.

Moli did not linger for battle, using the force of her tail strike, she twisted her body in the water, adjusting her direction toward Snake Head Street just ahead.

The streetlamps on Snake Head Street were lit, with torches attached to the buildings along the street. For the hoodlums and gang members here, the real nightlife was just beginning.

The waterway beside her entered a cliff phase as Moli and the monsters slid down the waterfall together. By the waterfall’s edge, there were many chains linked to the gates of Snake Head Street, which swayed gently with the flow of water at the end of the waterway.

These had been mechanisms to control the water gates of Snake Head Street, solving Saint Nali’s water problems in the winters before the city’s pipeline system was constructed.

Midair, worried that Fisher might fall, Moli supported Fisher’s back with one hand while clinging to a chain with the other, swinging toward the street.

The sound of the chains and monsters’ roars immediately drew the attention of countless gang members on the street. Numerous Human Worms roared as they descended from the sky, heading towards Moli and the crowd behind her.

"Monsters... Monsters!"

"Quick, go and inform Baric!"

The crowd scattered in terror as the Human Worms, roaring, surged toward Moli. Holding onto Fisher tightly, with black water swirling in her eyes as if she was about to act, she suddenly heard a man’s voice from behind her.

"Don’t move!"

"Bang!"

Moli didn’t move, but the head of a Human Worm in front of her suddenly burst open, spewing foul-smelling pulp.

"Ahh ahh!"

Moli turned around in surprise and saw an old man dressed as a barman holding a destructive double-barreled shotgun, stepping out from the side of the street, aiming at the countless roaring monsters ahead.

Behind him was a tavern sign flickering with neon lights, labeled "Jack’s Tavern."

The old man’s face was covered with ferocious scars, a half-smoked cigarette clung to the corner of his mouth. He first glanced at Fisher, who was lying unconscious on Moli’s back, and then disapprovingly at one Human Worm after another leaping from the waterway. He sighed and simply remarked,

"Damn, we were going to close in three minutes..."

"Roar!"

Despite his words, Old Jack’s actions were anything but slow. Holding his gun, he bypassed Moli, who was still at the same spot, killing one with a shot and then deftly reloading to deal with a few others.

"Squeak squeak squeak squeak!"

"Hand Fisher over to those Rats!"

Old Jack had just bypassed Moli when she saw a group of dark and fat Rats crawl out of the duct.

The mass of small creatures stopped in front of Moli, with the lead Rat politely nodding to Moli, gesturing for her to hand Fisher over to them. Before it could finish its gesture, it was smacked on the back of the head by the Rats behind it.

"Squeak squeak!"

It let out a protest-like squeak, then changed its hand signal. Under Moli’s astonished gaze, the Rats neatly formed something similar to a stretcher.

Numerous Rats joined paws to form two layers, with the Rats on top even pointing at their own heads, signaling for her to quickly put Fisher on top.

"Oh... alright."

Moli had never seen these little guys. After all, Fisher didn’t know Moli when he came to see Old Jack, but Moli could feel Old Jack and these... er, Rat friends’ goodwill.

She hurriedly placed Fisher onto the "Rat stretcher" and watched as they chirped and scrambled back into the tavern with him.

Moli didn’t go in, and with Old Jack feeling somewhat overwhelmed behind her, she decided to help this Human.

She took a deep breath, looked at a nearby extinguished street light, inhaled deeply, ran over, wrapped her arms around the pole, and pulled it out of the ground along with the cobblestones beneath it.

"Zzz..."

"I’m here to help you!"

Oil seeped from the top of the lamp as Moli effortlessly swung the light pole and headed for the group of Human Worms.

"Wait.. wait a minute, are you holding..."

"Ah ah ah ah! Die!"

Old Jack was the first to hear Moli’s shout; he turned and was nearly scared out of his wits.

Moli, with her eyes closed, was charging over holding a street light pole three times taller than herself. Her fishtail kicked up slightly, and she leaped high into the air, bringing the pole down hard onto the road ahead.
