Chapter 302: 124. Relative Years_3

This silly little thing usually doesn’t interact with others, and her only social circle consists of Milica and Isabella in her dormitory. Could you expect her to talk much and realize that Lord Ramasitia’s given knowledge of language had flaws?

Could it be possible that the word Whale-man Species use to denote age is different from the word for a year, but she used the same word when translated into the Nali Language?

Mr. Fischer asked her to repeat the expressions for age and a year in the Whale-man language, and sure enough, he quickly heard a different pronunciation between the two words, a distinction even Moli herself hadn’t realized until she foolishly read out the two words with different meanings and sensed something was amiss.

"Wait, wait, wait... Mr. Fischer, are you saying that humans use the same algorithm to calculate age as they do for a year? One ’year’ equates to one ’age’ for you?"

Moli opened her mouth in surprise, as if her entire worldview had been profoundly shaken. She didn’t unravel the relationship therein until Mr. Fischer pointed it out to her.

During her three months at Saint Nali University, her circle of friends was limited to Milica and Isabella, and since both of their birthdays had already passed this year, nobody had mentioned to Moli that humans age one year annually.

And Moli, silly and utterly oblivious to humans, thought that human lifespans were similar to those of the Whale-man Species, just as Mr. Fischer initially hadn’t even considered this aspect.

According to common knowledge, races like the Dragon-man Species, Witch, and other known demi-human races have lifespans similar to humans, but Mr. Fischer only realized that the lifespans of Demon Species might be longer when Elliog explicitly showed it...

Mr. Fischer realized that the lifespan of the Whale-man Species might be peculiar, inspired by Elliog’s discourse on the lifespan of the Demon Species.

Now it seems that Whale-man Species and Demon Species are quite similar, both long-lived races.

So according to what Elliog said about "Life Rank," are they both higher-ranked species?

Fischer vaguely sensed something off, as his academic intuition told him something wasn’t quite right, almost like it subconsciously didn’t make sense or fit logic...

For some unknown reason, whenever his thoughts reached this point, he’d always picture Ramasitia, that Water Snake. But this was just the route his intuition was taking him; he hadn’t yet realized how this related to Ramasitia.

After a long period of contemplation, Mr. Fischer couldn’t reach a conclusion and decided to continue his conversation with Moli,

"That’s right, in human terms, one ’age’ equals one ’year,’ and in the Nali language, these two concepts are the exact same word. But since your Nali language was directly imparted by Lord Ramasitia, you didn’t notice the difference... Plus, your social circle is too narrow; surely you didn’t realize this from your talks with Milica and Isabella."

"I... The only human birthday I knew about was the recent Gedelin Festival, the King’s birthday. I thought... all humans..."

Seeing her tangled and shocked expression, Mr. Fischer didn’t get entangled in the so-called lifespan talk; instead, he asked,

"So, in Whale-man Species’ concept, how many years exactly does one ’age’ equate to?"

"One age equals eighty years, but, but.."

Moli murmured softly, and gradually became unable to continue, seemingly struck by a thought.

But in Mr. Fischer’s mind, the tangled thoughts finally seemed to have been pieced together. He understood why Mu Xi could do so much in such a short time and even traverse the world while getting married.

The reason was not that Mu Xi had left the ocean for a year...

She had left the ocean for a full eighty years!

Mr. Fischer gazed at the paintings before him, and suddenly it all made sense—the paintings were done by Mu Xi, not any other artist.

The paintings depicted what Mu Xi experienced and saw ashore during those years, and the last painting depicting the establishment of Saint Nali University indicated Mu Xi had been well and alive in Nali three years ago...

As Mr. Fischer compared this painting of the Storm Sea to the others, the more he studied, the weirder the brushstrokes seemed.

He suddenly felt that if this particular painting wasn’t done by Mu Xi, then could it possibly indicate that it had been swapped?

Beside him, Moli was still lost in her sentiment and unease brought about by the concept of time, but Mr. Fischer wasn’t tangled in it. He directly reached out and lifted the painting, and behind this painting’s frame, someone had written three lines of tiny characters in Nali text, containing a cryptic riddle:

"The King once wept here, his tears gathering day and night into a mass, symbolizing his longing."

"Knowledge carries hidden history, fabricating a history of broken generations."

"Ah, my everything, where are you? In the most dangerous yet safest place!"

Mr. Fischer noted these three lines in his mind, clearly, this was the recorded location of the Blake Vault by Kachina.

But while he felt a relief reaching his goal, he also rose a sense of utter speechlessness.

In this day and age, if you’re writing a location for a treasure meant as a backup, can’t you just write it out directly?

Why create such an awkard-sounding riddle?

Before Mr. Fischer could even complain, Moli who had just looked up and was stealing glimpses at him, about to say something, suddenly realized something and shouted at Mr. Fischer,

"Mr. Fischer, be careful!"

Mr. Fischer’s expression changed slightly, and he turned his head following her pointing finger towards the tunnel ceiling.

He then saw, in the vent’s corner, one after another, eye-like creatures crawling out like cockroaches, their wings trembling while buzzing, gradually merging into a fearsome, madwoman’s voice,

"Found you, Son of the Sea!"
