Chapter 292: 121. Healing Room
Recently, Xiayat had nothing much to do, and staying in the South Continent demi-human Protection Association meant there was no food and it wasn’t as comfortable as the mountains, so she decided not to take Fisher’s carriage and planned to take her time strolling back to her own house.
"Well, although I don’t know what you guys are going to do this time, if you need help, come find me later. I’ll head back to the Association then, I’m very reliable..."
"No problem."
Standing in front of the carriage, Xiayat, with her hands on her hips and bow on her back, said this to Fisher, who was holding the reins.
At the same moment, the carriage window also opened a small curtain, revealing Moli’s bright, sparkling eyes. She waved goodbye to Xiayat and said, "Goodbye."
After nodding to Xiayat, Fisher gave a light command and whipped the horses, which had been feeding on grass for several days, toward the city. He needed to return to his rental accommodation to change into another outfit, as the charity dinner wasn’t starting until the evening and there was still plenty of time.
The carriage slowly traveled over the grasslands of Saint Nali’s suburbs, with the slow-flowing rivers diverging from their path, heading in different directions.
Meanwhile, Fisher and Moli could see the buildings of the South Continent demi-human Protection Association and Saint Nali University pass by their view.
Ever since Saint Nali University had experienced consecutive attacks and the infiltration of demi-humans, security there had tightened significantly. Plans were underway to build a two-person-tall wall, its earthen blocks obstructing a bit of Moli’s view, preventing her from seeing the swimming hall’s silhouette.
Disappointed, she withdrew her gaze and quietly moved to the front of the carriage door to watch Fisher drive the carriage.
The city of Saint Nali ahead was still bustling, with noise and voices everywhere in the morning city, shining brilliantly like a jewel of the Western Continent.
But the weather in Nali this autumn morning was not good. In the distant sky, near the ocean, water vapor was gathering into a dark rain cloud, slowly moving from the other side of the ocean toward them, bringing a sense of an impending storm.
The thick water vapor was drawn into Fisher’s lungs with his breath. He slowly donned his black gentleman’s hat. He was about to look back when he found that the door of the carriage had opened a small crack again. Moli’s azure eyes were quietly watching him, and her eyes shrank slightly because of his turning, looking particularly adorable.
"Nervous?"
"...A little, because, even though Miss Xiayat taught me a lot during training, it’s not real combat after all, and I’m afraid I might... get confused."
"Don’t worry, Xiayat and I both believe you’ve made the necessary preparations. I’ve seen your progress over the past few days. Don’t sell yourself short. Just present your best self to embrace the challenge before any mistakes might happen."
Moli pursed her lips, looked at Fisher who had turned his head back to watch the road, and gently nodded,
"Okay!"
...
...
The location of the Healing Room was quite secluded, with the Klein River flowing down from the mountains in the northeast, forming a small bay within the city of Saint Nali. In the verdant area before the bay, a building mainly in light blue emerged like shedding its hidden veil.
Planted along the road in front of the building was an array of neat, verdant vegetation, overall giving the impression that the Healing Room, both in environment and decor, could be considered tasteful. No wonder it was so favored by numerous noblewomen and Ladies of Nali, who would rush here from the city center in their carriages for beauty treatments and relaxation.
In fact, the Healing Room had been constructed a long time ago but had been relatively unknown because, initially, it wasn’t open to the public and was used as a private estate for Blake.
Of course, no one cared about what the rich merchants did inside their houses, as it had little to do with their own lives, especially since Blake was the most low-profile of all the merchants.
Only in recent years did this beauty care establishment, located in the suburbs of Saint Nali, begin to appear in the view of the Saint Nali middle class. Perhaps it was one of the nouveau riche who had received treatments there began to spread the word, or perhaps it was the work of a corporation that had business dealings with the Healing Room. In any case, the building’s function gradually transformed into a public beauty center.
Today, the Healing Room was exceptionally lively. As the morning just began to stir, the staff started preparing for the evening banquet, not just the outdoor courtyard but also the "Surface" inside would be open to the guests of Saint Nali. Normally, only the Ladies who received services there could enter.
By dusk, the sky had darkened earlier than usual due to being overcast with rain clouds. However, before long, a procession of private carriages, adorned with emblems of the elusive Nali Nobles and company insignias, emerged at the Healing House’s gate—symbols indicating the influential powers behind them.
At this time in front of the Healing House, three flags had already been hoisted. Arranged from highest to lowest, they bore; the Royal Family’s banner emblazoned with the gold pattern of Gedelin, the emblem of Bai Cui Bank marked with an olive branch, and at the lowest, a wave-shaped banner, signifying Blake’s Healing House.
How the Healing House devised its emblem was a mystery, but it had remained unchanged since it began attracting patrons; the ladies and upper-class women had grown accustomed to it over the past two years.
At that moment, observing the nearly prepared venue, a beautiful lady dressed in a silvery-white gown, with her lovely long hair tied into an elegant knot and her hands resting gently at her abdomen, stepped out from the Healing House. She smiled courteously while gazing at the path ahead.
This was Lady Kachina, the current spokesperson for the Healing House.
Her emergence was, of course, to welcome the esteemed guests who would soon appear at tonight’s charity soiree. The first guest had already arrived.
In the midst of silence, a carriage adorned with understated golden accessories came to a gentle halt at the gate of the Healing House. Descending from it was a young gentleman, handsome yet pallid, none other than Gedelin IX’s second son, Prince Lunxis.
His expression was sour, particularly upon seeing the smiling Kachina at the doorway—he looked as though someone owed him a debt.
"Prince Lunxis... ah!"
Kachina bowed slightly to him, but the approaching Lunxis abruptly seized the woman’s throat. It was fortunate that aside from Lunxis’s entourage, there were no others around.
By tradition, the Royal Family must always be the first to arrive, and no less than half an hour early, as a sign of respect for the royal status.
Kachina’s eyes subtly flitted as she struggled to look at the prince in front of her, her hands clutching at his arm. However, Lunxis’s grip didn’t lessen in the slightest; he even tightened his hold slightly, causing Kachina’s face to redden painfully.
"Don’t overstep your bounds. I took a great risk forcing the authorities to cooperate with your capture of that Ocean Subhuman, and you’ve produced no results yet? Do you think there is plenty of time? Or are you waiting for Dexter to ascend before you act?"
"My lord... the master will be back to normal tonight, it won’t be much longer, please rest assured..."
Lunxis’s gaze sharpened dangerously as he stared at the woman before him. Upon hearing Kachina’s explanation, he slowly withdrew his hand, allowing her to gasp for air and clutch her neck as she stepped back.
"You’d better be aware of the stakes. Blake is just like my aging father—I hope his mind is still clear."
After issuing the warning, Lunxis swept his sleeve and proceeded toward the interior of the Healing House, leaving Kachina alone, still clutching her neck.
As Lunxis and his entourage faded into the distance, Kachina’s countenance transitioned from a display of weakness to a snarl of irritation. Her fair fingers covered her neck, gently rubbing where Lunxis had pinched red. The inflamed area slowly crawled away as if alive, concealing itself elsewhere.
"That damn fool... pah!"
Kachina, seething with hatred, looked back for an instant and then slowly pulled herself upright. Had she not been in a cooperative arrangement with her master, she would have devoured that arrogant, ineffectual prince long ago, justified for having been reduced to such a frail state by the ladies of the Pink Hall.
Kachina had considered retaliating against Lunxis but abruptly recalled that Blake would return to his normal state that evening. The fear seeded deep within her soul persuaded her to reign in her vengeful desires.
Blake was bedridden several days each month at his villa, and with other watchdogs eying her and Anna, any reports would only reach him once he had regained consciousness, confirming his recent lack of awareness.
While she was unaware of what he did in isolation, Kachina’s thoughts were less complicated than Anna’s. She harbored her own minor schemes but wouldn’t dare to oppose Blake; she merely treated his absence as a vacation to unwind.
Time had passed since Kachina was first brought to Saint Nali by Blake, a girl filled with rage and hatred. Yet over the years, her rebellious spirit had succumbed to the fear of Blake; she now wished only to comply with the status quo.
Humiliated by Lunxis, regardless of her own fury, the thought of Blake prompted her immediate withdrawal, opting to bide her time—a glimpse into the nature of Kachina could be seen.
Quiet slowly returned to the front of the Healing House. Kachina stood in place once more, resuming a smile, ready to greet the guests soon to arrive...
After all, she had a busy night ahead.
