Chapter 245: 103. Shirt_2
He was not afraid of the legendary figure, especially after being attacked so many times.
Fisher didn’t check his mailbox, but when he looked up at the second floor of his rental house, he noticed that the window, which was normally closed, was now cracked open a bit. Usually, Martha wouldn’t touch things in his room unless necessary.
Fisher frowned slightly and glanced at the unlit first floor of the rental house, knowing that Martha should not be at home.
Could there be someone else in his rental house?
The first thing that came to his mind was the monster killer from the Healing Room. After all, they had seen him last night. Could it be that they suspected the fugitive demi-human girl, Moli, was hiding at his place? Were they planning to capture the escaped Aegirine student themselves, without waiting for the Nali Officials?
They couldn’t be that foolish.
Fisher placed the Magic Materials at the door and then quietly unlocked the room with his key. Inside, it was dark and eerily silent.
He surveyed the first floor and, after confirming there were no living beings downstairs, he turned his gaze to his room on the second floor.
Holding the Fluid Sword, Fisher cautiously proceeded up the stairs, back against the wall, and quietly made it to his room’s doorway. Then he gently grasped the doorknob.
He stayed still, and after waiting for about ten seconds, he finally turned the door handle, simultaneously peeking through the crack as he opened the door.
His room looked as usual, as if no one had entered.
But after a thorough inspection, Fisher suddenly spotted a very familiar whale tail lying on the floor beside his bed.
Seeing that little tail, Fisher’s previously stern expression instantly turned into a lifeless stare.
Without any further hesitation, he pushed the door open and his eyes settled on the utterly pitiable Whale Girl crouched by the window.
Upon seeing the door open, her reaction was even more dramatic than Fisher’s. She immediately reached to cover her face with her cloak, while her ears fluttered in panic and her hands waved frantically. Her cute voice came through once more,
"Wu... I’m not a thief, I... I came to find Mr. Fischer... Please don’t call the police..."
"Moli."
"Wuu... Eh? Mr. Fischer, you’re back!"
Upon hearing the voice of the person at the door, her sparkling eyes under the cloak widened, and she carefully lifted the cloak from her face, revealing a look of pitiable yet joyous relief.
Once the cloak was removed, Fisher noticed she was dirty all over, and her little bare feet were stained too.
Feeling Fisher’s scrutinizing gaze, she pitifully retracted her small feet under her nightgown. She had run away in a hurry the previous night, taking nothing with her. From Saint Nali University to Fisher’s rental house in Nali City, it was quite a distance, including a run through the outskirts of Saint Nali. Her barefoot run indeed left her dusty and travel-worn.
"How did you know I live here?"
"I followed Mr. Fischer... teacher, since early this morning here, and I was supposed to follow you when you went out, but I really was... too hungry... so I... sneaked in to rest for a while."
At that moment, Fisher realized she was still positioned by the window, motionless, her hands covering her little stomach. Thankfully, it didn’t make any timely "gurgle" sounds, but it was clear that she was on the verge of fainting from hunger.
Counting from the night before when Moli escaped, she hadn’t eaten two meals, and she was already this hungry. How come the Whale-man Species seemed so voracious once out of the Sea Trench?
Or was it that human portion sizes were too small and she had never been full?
Recalling the previous occasions when treating Moli to a meal had emptied his wallet, Fisher sighed, looked downstairs helplessly, and after a second or two, turned back to Moli and said,
"First go to the washroom to clean yourself up. I’ll go down and make you something to eat."
"But... I... don’t have any clothes..."
Moli pinched her dirty nightgown, her spirits dampened. She had been clutching a small notebook all this time, not having brought anything else, even running barefoot all the way here.
However, this was indeed a surprise to Fisher; he had assumed that given her timidity, she wouldn’t dare to run off far from Saint Nali University. He had already planned to search for her nearby; who knew she had persisted and followed him all the way back to Nali City. It truly was...
Having heard her words, Fisher walked to the nearby wardrobe and glanced at the clothes inside.
There were both his and Renie’s clothes; initially, Fisher intended to give Renie’s clothes to her, but smelling Renie’s signature gentle fragrance, he thought better of it.
Not only might they not fit her, if Renie found out, she would surely get flustered.
Fisher looked at the size of Renie’s clothes and thought as much, not realizing that Moli was quietly sizing up Fisher’s figure and the wardrobe in front of him. When she saw several pieces of women’s clothing hanging inside, she pouted silently and curled herself up even tighter.
"Let’s have you wear mine for now. I don’t have the right size for you. I’ll go out tonight and buy you some new ones."
"Eh? Wear... Mr. Fischer’s?"
Upon hearing this, Moli’s face instantly turned beet red, but Fisher didn’t wait for her to respond; he had already tossed a piece of clothing to her.
She caught it in a fluster, her lips trembling as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just pursed her lips and said nothing, silently gripping the clothing in her hands.
"Yes, I’ve cleaned that one; it’s very clean... Oh, you do know how to use the bathroom, right?"
"Yes... Yes! I do..."
Fisher glanced at her nervous and shy demeanor, nodded, and turned back to get ready to drag the magic materials inside, and incidentally to make some delicious food for this whale girl. He also wondered whether Lady Martha’s emergency rations would be enough for this young whale to splurge on.
The room included an adjoining bathroom, and concerned that she might feel shy, Fisher made a point to close the door before he left.
Moli watched cutely as Fisher closed the door. Once she could no longer see him, she finally relaxed a little; her heart would race uncontrollably every time Fisher was around.
Now, with Fisher gone, she quietly stretched her small feet from beneath her tail and sat properly, though her cheeks were still a shade of red.
After hearing the sound of Fisher’s footsteps descending the stairs, her ears fluttered twice, and she focused her gaze on the white oversized shirt in her hands.
Staring at the clean, white shirt, her throat moved slightly for a second or two, and a terrifying thought suddenly surged in her mind...
This is Mr. Fischer’s clothing...
No!
Moli, you... you can’t...
That’s really...
Her tail softly patted the floor behind her, and her heart began to race again because of her embarrassing thoughts.
Even though there was no one else in the room and the door was shut, she looked around warily and then shakily brought the clothing she held close to her front.
She looked down and gently sniffed the scent on the clothing, but as Fisher had said, he had cleaned the clothing, so there was no trace of Fisher’s scent left, only a faint whiff of starch...
The next second, Moli lifted her head somewhat disappointedly, pursing her lips as if having gained nothing.
But soon, she realized what strange thing she was doing.
This is just too shameless... It’s all Milica’s fault for showing me those romance comics!
Thinking this, her cheeks instantly turned red, and with her eyes closed, she let out a self-reproachful noise,
"Squeak..."
After a while, she went to the bathroom attached to Fisher’s room, still clutching Fisher’s clothing. There was a bathtub inside for washing up, and as she ran the water, she carefully hung Fisher’s shirt on the doorknob.
The water slowly filled the tub, but her gaze remained fixed on the white garment.
"Whoo... the water is full!"
