Chapter 237: 101. Exposed
At night in the girls’ dormitory building, the only room with a light on was where Moli, dressed in her pajamas, lay on her bed that was only hers, doodling and writing something.
Upon closer inspection, she was holding a pencil and sketching in a notebook that shimmered with Magic Radiance.
She was documenting everything she had seen since arriving on land, using both drawings and words.
Her mother and aunt, both adventurous members of the Whale-man Species, had traveled through countless landscapes but were not adept at recording the sights they had witnessed.
Every time they returned to the Sea Floor after their travels and recounted their tales, they always left Moli struggling to imagine what sort of magnificent wonders and thrilling adventures they had experienced.
Her mother’s storytelling usually went something like this:
"I left the Sea Trench, and not long after, felt a huge creature approaching. I didn’t get a clear look, but I tried punching it. It seemed like it died, or maybe it didn’t die, anyway, it just sank motionless, and then I continued to swim forward..."
"Hmm? What’s at the northern Sea Floor? Let me think, large rocks, big fish, lots of silly Crabmen, Shrimp Men, and Jellyfish Men... Hmm, that’s it."
"On land, I’ve encountered Humans. I heard he had no weapon to use, so I lent him my sword, agreeing that he would return it when he turned thirty-five... It was my first time encountering a creature from the Human Species, quite intriguing."
Curious about the outside world, Moli racked her brain but couldn’t picture the landscapes or forms of Life her mother had seen. Whenever she asked her mother too many questions, her mother became impatient, treating her own daughter like she was Lord Ramasitia, covering her ears and pretending to sleep, which frustrated Moli to no end.
Her aunt was a good storyteller, but she loved to play too much and rarely returned to the Sea Floor to see her.
So, this time Moli had decided to record all the landscapes she saw upon emerging from the Sea Floor.
She made a notebook coated with blue carved sea snail powder, so when it was taken underwater, it wouldn’t get wet, allowing everyone to see the vistas she had encountered.
Previously, she had drawn many Human constructions, harbors, steamships, and streets, and after joining Saint Nali University, she had sketched many people, particularly the friendly roommates Isabella and Milica.
But recently, she had started drawing another person more often—her stern yet kind teacher, Mr. Fischer. Though it might sound contradictory, Fischer was indeed such a person.
It seemed like he was... maybe interested in her? Or in all demi-humans?
Moli pursed her lips and delicately sketched on the paper Mr. Fischer’s pose as he sat in a carriage with his eyes shut, resting.
Usually she didn’t dare to stare at Mr. Fischer, only when he couldn’t see her did she allow herself to keep looking, and so the memory was vivid.
"Heave ho... heave ho..."
As she drew, Moli playfully kicked up her fair-skinned legs behind her.
Sometimes she fantasized that Mr. Fischer was actually only interested in her, and that his so-called research or teaching assistant duties were simply means to pursue her...
Oh, heavens, she really shouldn’t have secretly read Milica’s romance novels; such plots were... really...
Quite thrilling.
As she mused, Moli’s cheeks flushed red, and she then buried her head in her notebook, her legs swinging ceaselessly behind her.
But as she swung them, she suddenly paused because the image of Elizabeth, who had sat across from Mr. Fischer that afternoon, sprang to mind.
The Lady seemed like a war goddess with all attributes maxed out, leaving Moli feeling somewhat suffocated.
Being Human and the noblest of Princesses, what if such a Lady also fancied Mr. Fischer?
And she was just a demi-human. Could Mr. Fischer truly like demi-humans?
If not, should she secretly abduct Mr. Fischer to the ocean?
But Mr. Fischer wasn’t a fish, how could he breathe underwater?
If only Mr. Fischer could breathe underwater... perhaps her mother had a way to enable people of other races to breathe underwater!
But if her mother found out, would she beat her up? After all, her mother’s fists were terrifying.
Lost in her wild thoughts, Moli was suddenly startled by a knock on the door,
"Knock knock..."
"Ah, I’m here, may I ask who it is?"
Moli looked at the door that had been knocked, unclear as to who would come looking for her so late.
Could it be Mr. Fischer?
At this thought, her heart stopped for a moment, but then she remembered this was a girls’ dormitory, and Mr. Fischer couldn’t possibly come to find her so late.
Confused, she closed her notebook, slipped on the slippers by her bed, and walked toward the door.
Pushing open the door revealed only the brightly lit but empty hallway outside. Moli tilted her head, confused, leaned out to look, but still saw no one.
Strange, there clearly had been a knock at the door just now.
Moli was about to go back and close the door when, just before it shut, the door seemed to get caught on something and a soft contact noise was heard.
"Squish!"
Startled, Moli looked up only to find a woman with no expression stuck to the ceiling. She had been about to peek in when she was caught by the closing door on her neck.
