Chapter 229: 97. Bet with Oneself_2
Then there was nothing...
Mr. Fisher furrowed his brows and examined the parchment, flipping it back and forth again, only to discover it was just an ordinary piece of parchment.
Apart from the handwriting written on it, there was nothing special—no magic, no hidden mechanisms, no concealed maps...
This made Mr. Fisher feel that the reward was somewhat cryptic. Unlike the tangible objects given by the Demi-human Girls Completion Manual in the past, which Mr. Fisher could somewhat guess the intent of even if the languages were different or there were no explanations, this item left Mr. Fisher quite puzzled, unclear of its significance.
Lake Fairy... sounded like a legend, but Mr. Fisher had never heard of it.
Mr. Fisher took note of the only clear information, "Lake Fairy," and then stored the item in his desk drawer.
After sorting through things a bit, Mr. Fisher washed his face while also testing out the "Deep Diving Physique" he had just acquired. He filled the bathtub with water, then submerged his face in the tub to try breathing,
Mr. Fisher found that although he could barely breathe in water, it was particularly uncomfortable; he would choke after one or two breaths, and then his nose and throat would hurt.
It seemed that practicing to breathe underwater unobstructed really needed some work...
When Mr. Fisher was about to practice for the third time, he was suddenly pulled out of the bathtub by Mrs. Martha, who had burst into the washroom at some unknown time. Once Mr. Fisher wiped his face and looked at Mrs. Martha, he saw her face had turned pale with trembling lips as she said,
"Oh, sweetheart, is there something you can’t just talk about? Why keep your face submerged in the bathtub... Did Renie break up with you in a letter? Or is this some unique method of thinking for scholars? My goodness, if that’s the case how could any family want their child to become a scholar?"
"I just wanted to wash my face."
Mr. Fisher was both amused and helpless, unable to explain, so he just said he wanted to splash his face with water.
He returned to his room and dried his face and hair with a towel, only to find Mrs. Martha standing by the door, looking worried that she wouldn’t see the cute little baby again if he and Renie broke up. Therefore, Mr. Fisher had to change the subject by saying,
"Shouldn’t you be playing cards with the neighbors or watering the plants at this time, or were you planning to take a nap today?"
"Oh... Oh! Right, I completely forgot because I was worried you went crazy or weren’t feeling well. I actually had plans to buy some bread with Mrs. Sanger, but at the door, I met a gentleman who said he was your friend and wanted to see you, so I ran back to remind you, only to find you with your rear in the air, your head buried in the bathtub... washing your face?"
Mr. Fisher paused his wiping for a moment and turned to Mrs. Martha to ask,
"A friend?"
"Ah, he’s at the door."
Mr. Fisher had originally planned to go to Saint Nali University with Moli to research an item her aunt had sent back, but now, unexpectedly, a friend had come to visit...
Was he getting a bit too busy lately? And it wasn’t even his own necessary business.
After Mrs. Martha’s reminder, Mr. Fisher hurried downstairs and opened the front door, only to see a well-dressed gentleman standing at the entrance, a man Mr. Fisher recognized...
"Mr. Fisher, long time no see!"
"Keken?"
Mr. Fisher remembered when he had first taken Rafael away from the Kexie Ning Circus, he had stopped at Keken City for a supply run, a city managed by a junior of his and the gentleman at the door was none other than Keken, the city lord.
Mr. Fisher just hadn’t expected to see this junior here again. Traveling between the Western Continent and the South Continent wasn’t easy, so he wondered why he had come back now.
"Ha, it’s me, very pleased to see you again, Mr. Fisher."
"It has been a long time, almost half a year now..."
Not until Mr. Fisher spoke again did he realize that he had been away from Rafael for nearly five months, and the memory of the red dragon-man lady surrounded by aromatic steam seemed like it was just yesterday...
Feeling slightly sentimental, Mr. Fisher walked Keken into the living room, casually greeting Mrs. Martha who was about to head out the door.
While Mrs. Martha went out to buy bread with a neighbor, Mr. Fisher took Keken back into his room, where a bottle of Black Mamba Wine gifted by Trandell still remained, which was now a perfect offer for his guest.
His fingertips were still adorned with two rings; Mr. Fisher remembered that he had married two sisters from Kado. However, Keken’s current mental state didn’t look well; he seemed fatigued, and even the stubble on his face was not well-groomed, which made Mr. Fisher even more curious about his reasons for coming back.
As Mr. Fisher took out the bottle of wine, Keken took the glass and poured some wine for both of them. Mr. Fisher thought then asked about his reason for returning to the Western Continent,
"Weren’t you well-settled in the South Continent? Why have you suddenly returned to the Western Continent?"
Instead of replying immediately, Keken looked around the room, inspecting his surroundings as if searching for something in Mr. Fisher’s room,
"What are you looking for?"
Hearing Mr. Fisher’s question, Keken somewhat embarrassedly scratched his head and said,
"Oh... Well, Mr. Fisher, I wanted to ask, is the red dragon-man species that was accompanying you still here, or did you, by any chance, sell her?"
