Chapter 223: Forced to take hostage_2
"No need, let me take a look."
Little John chuckled softly without responding but led Anna to the door of a certain room inside the cave.
Upon arriving, he pulled out a key to unlock the door, revealing a spacious room with a humanoid creature suspended in the air, bound by iron chains.
The figure had a face similar to that of humans, but its hair was entirely deep red, and it had a shell-like carapace akin to a lobster’s on its back. One of its hands was a pincer, and the other was a human palm with webbing. Dangling behind it was a huge, slightly curled lobster tail.
It was wrapped in iron chains, bearing injuries, with little greenish blood dripping down the chains. Now unconscious, it was none other than the lobster-like demi-human Ling Jiu, whom Fisher and his team were trying to rescue.
In a corner of the room, several menacing figures, cigarette in mouth and holding flintlocks, stared at Anna and her party entering the room—these were the Hunters who had captured this demi-human.
"Ding Ding, this is the Ocean Subhuman caught by the Hunters. It’s also my first time seeing a subhuman from the Sea Floor... We initially thought these Ocean Subhumans were even fiercer than the Dragon-men of the South Continent. When assigning the mission, we specifically sought out Hunters with strong combat skills. Luckily, they’re better at running away, hehe..."
"Do you want to pay for this one now and take it away, or wait until everyone’s here and pay all at once?"
Confronted with Little John’s inquiry, Anna gestured to her subordinates, and a chest was brought before everyone,
"One hundred seventy thousand, I’ll take this guy away right now."
One hundred fifty thousand was the going rate for the lobster demi-human, and the additional twenty thousand were for the black market’s commission. Once the mission was complete, the black market would collect an equal fee from both the buyer and seller based on the quoted price. Anna paid an extra twenty thousand, meaning the Bounty Hunters would receive twenty thousand less.
Little John took the chest, glanced at the Nali gold coins packed inside, then closed the chest contentedly. He clapped towards his subordinates as a signal for them to lower the demi-human.
"Pink Hall really splurges, to part with one hundred seventy thousand Narliou so generously—for just a single demi-human... may I ask the reason? If Lady Anna is willing to share some information, I will return fifty thousand of the Narliou."
Anna ordered her subordinates to take the lobster demi-human away and firmly warned,
"This is our business, don’t meddle."
"Just trying to make a bit more money, but no worries, we won’t press you for answers if you don’t wish to provide them. After all, we’ve made enough from this deal... Just a heads-up, once the goods are handed over, we take no responsibility. Snake Head Street is long, and Saint Nali is not safe. Please take good care of your merchandise."
Anna gave Little John—who was all smiles—a glance and then directed Pink Hall’s people to take the demi-human away.
Behind her, Little John, still grinning, waved at the departing Anna and said,
"Take care, Lady Anna! There are still two out there we haven’t caught, but we’ll capture them as soon as possible."
Anna walked out of the cave with the people from Pink Hall, without responding to Little John. Outside the cave was rather quiet; only by leaning against the street corner could one see gang members smoking, watching every spot on the street with a bad attitude.
Near the end of Snake Head Street, in an area controlled by gangs, there were not many people—only further up the street would one find aimless thugs and junkies.
Anna ordered her subordinates to toss the lobster demi-human into the carriage, and then she set up Protection Magic to prevent the demi-human from being snatched away or waking up and attempting to struggle and escape.
After confirming everything was in order, Anna lifted her skirts and boarded the carriage, saying to the coachman in front,
"Back to Pink Hall."
"Yes."
As the carriage began to move slowly, Anna sat alone in the carriage, looking at the unconscious demi-human, her beautiful face emotionless, her thoughts unknown.
Time passed slowly, and the carriage continuously jostled on the uneven surface of Snake Head Street.
Just as the quiet journey was about to end, and the carriage was approaching the entrance to Snake Head Street, the coachman seemed to see something, suddenly shouting,
"Get out of the way quick!"
Anna furrowed her brow. In the next instant, the carriage came to a sudden halt, inertia pushing her forward. Fortunately, she had extended her hand in time to brace against the interior of the carriage to prevent herself from falling.
The horse neighed loudly, having yanked hard on the reins, and Anna’s expression turned colder. She lifted the carriage curtain to look outside and saw a person dressed in a cloak standing in the middle of the road, staring directly at the carriage.
The cloaked Moli slowly raised her hand, revealing in her grasp a Handcane hidden beneath the cloak. As the Handcane was lifted, Anna caught sight of the elusive threads that extended from the Spinner at the top of the Handcane, connecting to the streetlights and buildings on either side of the street.
Anna was still trying to figure out what Moli intended with the Spinner, but she would soon find out.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Moli took a deep breath, like a vortex crazily drawing in the surrounding air. A second later, as she looked up again, her eyes were filled with flowing dark water currents.
