Chapter 151: 63. Moli Teaching Assistant
Since Elliog had left, Mr. Fischer’s days had become very regular.
First thing every morning, at six o’clock sharp, he undertook continuous physical training, usually quick running as the main method. On Tuesday, the day after Elliog’s departure, Xiayat had joined Fischer for a run but she was nowhere to be found come Wednesday, evidently pulled away again by people from the New Party.
Another task was continuing lectures. With the news about Schwali’s academic delegation visit spreading wider, Saint Nali University also began preparations for the scholarly conference, and Ken even came asking him to prepare responses to their potential challenges.
The delegation from Schwali had previously made a trip to Kado’s World Magic Association, most likely for this academic conference, and Ken did not want Mr. Fischer to take it lightly.
After expressing his understanding, Fischer reviewed his own dissertation a few more times, reinforced his memory of the proof logic, and then set it aside.
That was not the main thing he should be worried about; the Forbidden Magic Scholars were not likely to be formidable opponents in a debate. What truly worried him were the matters concerning Carlo and Pink Hall.
The New Party responsible for that act, the seemingly unrelated Pink Hall, the Witch Carlo demanding assassination, the suspected backer Blake...
Amidst the veiled suspicions, a vast and sinister network seemed to be surfacing, yet Fischer had not grasped the critical juncture within it.
Time slowly elapsed with the impending arrival of Schwali, until Wednesday morning arrived, and it was time for Fischer to teach.
The entire school was still in a vigorous and youthful phase, and a gentleman’s voice continued to echo from the classroom of Magic Introduction, precisely Mr. Fischer lecturing at eight-thirty in the morning.
"The name of the Ring Head comes from its significance to all of Magic, without the Ring Head, the definition of a magic would become completely blurred and lose direction; without the Ring Head, no matter how splendid the Main Ring and sub-ring are engraved, they would lose their meaning. Most of the time, the Ring Head is quite straightforward for Mages, because we do not need to understand the world’s rules deeply, that’s only necessary when inventing the Ring Head."
Reaching this point, Fischer put down the chalk in his hand, glanced at the dense text on the blackboard behind him, then at the clock, and turned to look at the students below, who were absorbing his words,
"Alright, that would be about it for today’s class. With only a few minutes left, I don’t intend to continue the lesson... Moli."
"Yes!"
When Fischer called out her name, the girl seated in the first row taking notes instinctively stood up, gripping her pen in panic and looking at Fischer. Her sudden reaction startled the classmates behind her.
Almost immediately realizing her response was improper, Moli’s face reddened even more. She wanted to sit down and then stand properly again, but felt that wouldn’t be appropriate, so instead she awkwardly clutched at her skirt, stealing glances at Mr. Fischer.
Mr. Fischer smiled nonchalantly at her and introduced her to the rest of the students,
"As I am occupied with other matters on average days, I have appointed a student assistant from our class to help with my daily tasks, and this is Moli."
"Afterwards, she will be responsible for correcting everyone’s weekly homework and leading the tutorial classes. However, a word of caution to all of you; even if it is she who corrects the homework, it will be under my full supervision in my office—any private requests to Moli to tamper with grades or to go easy will be treated as cheating, so please be mindful."
"Now, let’s have Ms. Moli introduce herself."
"Eh, eh?"
Moli’s thighs began to tremble, and her entire face turned beet red, clearly not expecting Mr. Fischer to suddenly ask her to introduce herself.
She bit her lip and, bolstered by a covert cheer from Isabella, mustered the courage to cover her chest with her hands and walk toward the podium. Yet due to her subconscious protective gesture, her softness was inadvertently accentuated, leaving many of the male students in the back staring in awe.
This was too... too... big... no, that’s not...
"Um... um... I...," Moli’s voice was very soft, pleasant as the milk candies sold at the Saint Nali Candy Store, and after stuttering enormously, she sneaked a look at Mr. Fischer before struggling to say,
"I am... Mr. Fischer’s... assistant..."
And then, there was nothing more.
The classroom quieted down, with the students gazing blankly at Moli standing next to Mr. Fischer, not quite catching what she was saying, even Isabella covered her face, unable to bear the sight.
"Alright, I’m just informing you all that Moli will act as the assistant for this class. That will conclude today’s lesson, you are now dismissed."
Thankfully Mr. Fischer intervened, and after his words, the atmosphere in the classroom returned to its previous normalcy. Aside from several male students who continued to steal glances at Moli still standing motionless, the other students had started to pick up their bags and books to leave.
Mr. Fischer also wiped his fingers clean of chalk dust with a tissue nearby and turned around to see that Moli was still in place. He paused for a moment and then spoke to the girl,
"Moli?"
"...Squeak."
Startled by Fischer’s voice, she jerked back and then hurriedly turned to face him, but as she met his gaze, her eyes shrank back like one burnt and she looked down.
