Chapter 133: 50.Shadow_2

But her Trace was considered a gift from the Mother Goddess, which could only mean Renie was truly extraordinary...

Either those lunatics judged the presence of the Mother Goddess’s blessing by the Witch’s Magic Power, or Renie was the most unique Witch out there, like, for instance,

"The Undead Witch."

"I understand, I’ll keep an eye out," Fisher pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and then continued, "I’ve obtained news about the Schwali Delegation’s upcoming visit. It’s scheduled for the next few weeks under the guise of academic exchange. They will be hosting an academic conference at Saint Nali University right behind me."

Hearing the information Fisher provided, Carlo’s expression instantly lit up with excitement, and his gaze shifted towards the Saint Nali University buildings illuminated in the distance. He said,

"Have you thought about how you’re going to help me escape?"

Fisher glanced at him and then asked,

"I need to know more about your dealings with the Pink Hall. You’d better tell me everything about your escape to Nali. I need to know the real purpose of the Pink Hall to help you."

Carlo opened his mouth, seeming to weigh whether he should trust the man before him. After hesitating for a while, he said,

"I escaped from the Witch Research Association and took a ship to Saint Nali. The Association’s minions were hot on my trail, and I killed quite a few, but being alone and constantly fending off their relentless pursuers was exhausting. That’s when the people from Pink Hall found me, and they took me to meet their leader, an old man named Blake."

"Blake?" Fisher blinked at the name, then pressed, "Is his full name Blake Vasili?"

Looking puzzled, Carlo responded to Fisher’s inquiry,

"How would I know his full name? He’s just some rich old geezer."

Blake Vasili, a name synonymous with the legendary captain who, upon being tasked with exploring new continents and oceans, rose to fame and amassed a great fortune, got married, and continued his sea adventures until he retired to Saint Nali in his twilight years.

If this "first pioneer" was the backer of Pink Hall, then Fisher wasn’t too surprised.

He was incredibly wealthy and possessed acute political sensitivity. Fisher had heard he was a charming and passionate gentleman. Who would have guessed he would run one of the finest girl’s homes in Saint Nali in his later years?

"Did he instruct you to assassinate a member of the Schwali diplomatic team?"

"Yes, but he didn’t force me. He mentioned that after Schwali resumed relations with Nali, many of their products lost their monopolistic edge. To ensure they alone could sell those medicines and whatnot, he wanted me to assassinate a member of the delegation at leisure, preferably someone less significant, because they only wanted a cold war, not a real war."

Hearing Carlo’s words, Fisher fell into deep thought.

So, Pink Hall wanted Carlo to assassinate someone from the Schwali Delegation just to maintain their monopolistic status in Saint Nali’s drug market?

Carlo had to accept the assignment; otherwise, the months of asylum provided by Pink Hall would have been for naught, and Pink Hall would not let it go easily. This also explained why he was willing to make a deal with Fisher.

Carlo looked at the pondering Fisher, aware of his suspicions that Pink Hall might have other motives. He tentatively explained,

"I think they are not too eager about this matter. Could it be possible that they just wanted to see if they could continue to maintain the drug monopoly without any hidden agendas? That’s why I took on the task willingly..."

Fisher glanced at him, with an expression akin to looking at a domesticated pig,

"What if they are just pretending not to be eager, setting you up perfectly to fall for it?"

This left Carlo at a loss for words, feeling embarrassed and unwilling to keep talking.

According to Carlo, it was indeed possible that Pink Hall only aimed to maintain their dominant position in Nali’s drug market; however, deeper motivations could exist. So, until proven otherwise, assuming they had deeper motivations was safer.

With a plan in mind, Fisher told Carlo,

"First, during the academic conference, blend in at Saint Nali University as usual and pretend you’re going through with the assassination for Pink Hall..."

"So, I’m actually trying to escape, while you take care of the tails from Pink Hall, right?"

Fisher had completely treated him like a domestic pig, continuing in an unchanging tone,

"Then, you must ensure that every member of the diplomatic group remains unharmed."

"Huh? I have to protect them too? No way, what if not a single one dies and Pink Hall comes after me, and you ditch me? Don’t forget I still have a lead on the Undead Witch!"

Fisher cast a pitying glance at him and extinguished his cigarette while saying,

"If the entire delegation survives, only then do you have the right to survive. By accepting this mission from Pink Hall, you essentially sealed your fate."

Fisher looked at him coldly,

"The first possibility, your assassination fails, and whether you can escape or not, the officials, Pink Hall, and the Witch Research Association won’t let you go; the second possibility, your assassination succeeds, Nali and Schwali will hunt you down until death. Do you think the Witch Research Association and Pink Hall are scarier, or are two powerful nations scarier?"

The more Carlo listened, the more his belated intelligence slowly realized the gravity of the situation, cold sweat gradually breaking out on his forehead.

It wasn’t until then that he realized how suffocating it was to lack intelligence, that from the moment he escaped and entered Pink Hall, all his choices had been wrong, and of course, wrong choices could only lead to a wrong ending.

"Only if you stand with me and ensure that none of the diplomats die, can I use the power of both governments to keep you safe from the two forces. This is the only way I can think of; don’t look at me, I’m not the Mother Goddess, I can’t save you alone."

"I... I understand, I’ll listen to everything you say. So, I just need to enter Saint Nali University, and as long as I protect all members of the delegation from dying, I’ll be able to escape, right?"

However, a sinister thought suddenly struck Fisher. If he were one to harbor malicious intentions against him, this fellow would have definitely fallen for it again.

If Fisher were to simply abandon him after everything was done, Carlo would be left with no way out, and Fisher wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of arranging for his safety, achieving all his goals, wouldn’t he?

Luckily, Fisher still had a bit of conscience.

He nodded as a promise, then turned his head to look at the school amidst the night breeze.

But he suddenly saw a shadow outside the school fence, moving rapidly towards the school. It was the size of a normal human, but its movements were incredibly agile, leaping over the high fence in no time.

And as it leaped over the fence, Fisher vaguely saw a large and unclearly shaped tail hanging from the shadow’s back...

What was that?

A demi-human?

Or some other kind of monster?

Fisher furrowed his brows and hesitated for a second before swiftly grabbing his Handcane and hat and hurrying towards the school, trying to catch the shadow that had now slipped into the school.

Carlo was about to speak behind him but only saw Fisher take off running. He called out, "Hey!" but Fisher no longer paid him any heed.

As he ran quickly towards the school, without looking back, he said to him,

"You can go back now, remember what I said, just inform me of any updates via messenger!"

"Huh?"

Carlo thought they had been discovered by others and frantically hid behind a tree. After surveying the surroundings for quite a while, however, he saw nothing but buzzing mosquitoes and the gentle night breeze occasionally brushing by.

At this moment, Carlo, the Artificial Witch, called out here in the middle of the night to these desolate fields, barely exchanging a few words before being mercilessly abandoned. Even if he had been a normal man, he would feel outraged at Fisher running further and further away, thinking that Fisher’s character was absolutely despicable!

Silently cursing the man in his mind, only now did he belatedly realize that he was once again left alone here.

Thus, he hugged himself fearfully, shivering, while carefully making his way towards Saint Nali University, slowly disappearing into the darkness.
