Chapter 566: Chapter 274: I’ve Been Surpassed by the Kimchi Girl!_1
"Eat up, get some sleep!"
Lin Baici stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the street: "Yi Jisheng, you’re on watch duty. Report back immediately if anything unexpected happens!"
Yi Jisheng was a byproduct of divine contamination and, to be strict, wasn’t even a living being, so it never felt tiredness, which made it the perfect scout.
Yi Jisheng gave a thumbs up indicating no problem, then moved a sofa over to the window, sat down with eyes wide open, unblinking, and watched outside.
"Boss, if I do good, can I get three silicone dolls as a reward? Okay, two will do as well!"
Yi Jisheng seized the opportunity to ask for a reward.
"You’ll get ten!"
Though top-quality dolls were expensive, they were just small change for Lin Baici now.
He took out some eight-treasure porridge, bread, biscuits, and pickled vegetables, and set them on the table: "Hurry up and eat!"
After a whirlwind of eating, everyone filled their stomachs then went to bed. Lin Baici found a blanket and curled up on the couch.
He wasn’t actually sleepy, but he had to force himself to sleep to conserve energy.
The noise on the street outside the hotel was particularly loud. Even with noise-cancelling headphones on, Lin Baici couldn’t block it out; it continued for six or seven hours before gradually quieting down.
The golden sunset sank to the west, and night was approaching fast.
Thump! Thump!
Someone was knocking at the door!
It was Quan Sangin and his group.
"The commotion in this area seems to have settled down. Shall we make our move now?"
Quan Sangin suggested.
He came to Lin Baici partly out of respect, to show the sincerity of their cooperation, and partly because he wanted to utilize Lin Baici’s ability to locate tickets, which would save time.
"Yi Jisheng, what’s the situation?"
Lin Baici was in no hurry.
"Only monsters are outside now; the living have all fled."
Yi Jisheng had been watching all afternoon and felt that the people bitten to death were a waste; it could have used their innards to piece together several perfect wives.
"The zombies in the buildings nearby should drop enough tickets. You guys pick first!"
Lin Baici headed to the restroom to wash his face, and the rest of the group arrived as well.
"We’ll follow your lead. Wherever you say we go, we’ll go!"
Quan Sangin assumed a very humble stance: "We’ll be your muscle!"
Kim Jinsoo and her companions clearly weren’t happy, but they didn’t complain, evidently having been prewarned by Quan Sangin.
"No need for that, let’s split into two teams. You guys take the even floors, we’ll take the odd ones, and clear them floor by floor."
Lin Baici made the arrangements.
Killing zombies was a job for just a few people; Lin Baici also wanted to use the opportunity to train Kim Myungjin and Hua Yue Yu’s courage. Too many people would actually hinder their formation in the corridors.
Quan Sangin wanted to persuade him further, but Lin Baici wasn’t listening to him at all and set off with the group, who were already ready to move.
The hotel had quite a few guests, and judging by the disordered traces on the ground as well as the occasional bloodstains, it had already been attacked by zombies.
"Before heading up to the suites, I got a guest list from the computer at the front desk, but I reckon at least half of those rooms are empty by now!"
Gu Qingqiu handed Lin Baici a piece of paper listing the rooms that had guests.
"Red Medicine, you cover our rear, Yi Jisheng, you take the lead, Jin Ying, Yue Yu, you two chop at the zombies, get some practice in!"
Lin Baici didn’t assign any tasks to Gu Qingqiu, because in his view, the girl’s brain was more valuable than wasting her time on slashing monsters.
The operation began.
The six of them took the stairs to the 35th floor, where they saw five zombies aimlessly wandering the corridor.
Lin Baici tapped the wall with his bronze sword.
Thump! Thump!
The sounds weren’t loud, but the five zombies heard them, turned their heads, and upon spotting people, immediately roared and charged toward them.
"Go for it!"
Lin Baici held the rear.
Hua Yue Yu and Kim Myungjin had magic wands given to them by Lin Baici, but they were useless at that moment. They were using Tang swords forged with meteorite powder, which were not only sharp and durable but also didn’t have to worry about contamination.
This was also one of the standard weapons of the Jiuzhou Security Bureau.
"I’ll go first!"
Kim Myungjin took a deep breath, stepped forward three times, and faced the male zombie that had charged at her, swinging her sword down.
Swish!
The blade sliced into the zombie’s neck, but Kim Myungjin’s aim was off, and the blade got stuck in the chest cavity instead.
Ah!
The male zombie screamed, flailing his arms, still lunging forward, as blood gushed out of the wound, spattering on the carpet.
The stench of blood was overwhelming.
Lin Baici didn’t help, watching coldly from the side, while Hua Yue Yu ran up wanting to assist. But Kim Myungjin’s long legs clad in jeans kicked out, striking the male zombie’s lower abdomen—not only knocking it down but also yanking the Tang sword out!
"Ah!"
Kim Myungjin yelled and rushed forward, gripping the sword with both hands and chopping at the zombie male’s neck again.
Crack!
This time, a head rolled to the ground.
"I did it!"
Kim Myungjin turned around, looking at Lin Baici, seeking his praise.
"Watch out in front!"
Lin Baici warned.
"I’m not bad either!"
Hua Yue Yu muttered, not wanting to be outdone. She bravely ran towards an oncoming zombie and angrily swung her Tang sword.
The zombie, dressed in a hotel employee’s uniform, suddenly sped up, colliding with Hua Yue Yu, which caused her to lose her sense of distance and miss the slash.
"Be careful!"
Xia Hongyao was startled—that bite would turn her into a zombie.
The zombie was already upon her, its rotten stench flooding into her nostrils like a tsunami. Hua Yue Yu felt like vomiting, but thankfully her petite frame and agility, coupled with the blessings of Divine Grace enhancing her neural response, allowed her to instinctively dodge left and throw a punch.
Drunken Fairy Fist!
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Three consecutive punches struck the zombie man’s eyes and nose and mouth.
If this were a normal man, these three punches would certainly have reduced his combat effectiveness instantly, but zombies do not feel pain and did not care about such blows, continuing to lunge at Hua Yue Yu.
Its hands grabbed Hua Yue Yu’s left shoulder and hair, its neck stretching long as its mouth snapped at the anchorwoman’s face.
Bang!
A Flying Stone was thrown, smashing the zombie’s head to pieces.
Swish!
Blood and flesh splattered onto Hua Yue Yu’s body.
"Yue Yu!"
Lin Baici shouted and quickly ran over.
"I... I’m okay!"
Hua Yue Yu’s limbs were shaking, feeling some panic, but she didn’t want Lin Baici to see it, and just as she had predicted, in a moment of crisis, Lin Baici did come to her rescue.
Damn it!
I’ve been outshone by the kimchi girl!
Hua Yue Yu was annoyed—seeing Kim Myungjin bypass her, ready to face the next zombie, she hurriedly said, "Let me handle this one!"
"Kim Myungjin has a hot figure that’s good for fighting, relieving boredom, and acting as bait, with a variety of tactical values. Hua Yue Yu, on the other hand, can only be a mascot!"
Gu Qingqiu crossed her arms and observed the situation.
This team configuration was terrible, but Lin Baici was strong enough, so no major problem!
In these rooms, some had zombies, which upon hearing noise, all came out. In the blink of an eye, the corridor seemed crowded as if it could be packed with heads.
