Chapter 268: Chapter 136 Why is everyone a God Hunter, yet you’re so outstanding?_1
The group charged through the iron door.
This was a large circular resting room, with five doors on the walls, three of which were open.
"Which door are you in?"
The dwarf yelled.
Without waiting for the woman in leather pants to answer, Lin Baici already ran into the middle door that was open.
"Over here!"
Passing Ears Recitation not only allowed Lin Baici to perfectly remember things after hearing them once, but it also had the added effect of enhancing his hearing.
"Aunt Shu, could you please stay outside?"
Lin Baici instructed.
The proprietress stopped in her tracks and nodded, "Okay!"
Immediately after entering, everyone felt a blast of cold air.
It was a large cold storage room.
Because the temperature was very low, frost had formed on the floors and walls, and breathing out yielded white breath.
"Fuck!"
The Bartender blurted out.
Under the ceiling, there were iron racks embedded with hooks hanging down from chains every meter or so.
Each hook was thrust into the back of a human corpse’s neck and out through its mouth, suspending them in mid-air.
These bodies were like those plucked chickens sold by marketplace vendors, already scalded by boiling water to remove the feathers, then gutted and emptied of their internals.
After these procedures, the bodies were hung up to prevent them from being devoured by rats, bugs, and ants.
Lin Baici glanced around and saw that the huge cold storage room was filled with rows upon rows of corpses, each row spaced a meter apart, with no end in sight.
As their mouths were hooked, and their bodies suspended and sagging under gravity, their heads were all tilted back, mouths wide open.
At first glance, it looked like some mysterious and evil sacrificial ritual was being performed.
"At least seven or eight hundred!"
The dwarf craned his neck to look at the corpses.
They were frozen stiff, each covered in a thin layer of ice, with rib cages wrapped in red flesh visible as their organs had been removed.
"I think I can give up eating ribs for a while!"
Xia Hongyao decided to go vegetarian for three months to calm her nerves.
"Leather Pants, where are you?"
The Bartender shouted.
"Over here!"
The voice of the woman in leather pants echoed among the corpses.
Everyone quickly headed towards her.
The woman in leather pants was on high alert and immediately pointed to one of the corpses, "This one hasn’t been gutted."
"Could it be they missed one?"
The old man examined the corpse, a woman of about 1.7 meters and quite plump with a large stomach.
"No, I think I saw it move!"
The woman in leather pants speculated, "Could it be the BOSS?"
"What?"
Everyone was startled to hear this term.
A BOSS referred to an elite, or a leader-level monster—something very formidable.
"I feel this place is pretty eerie, and since there are no Pig-Headed Men, should we get out of here quickly?"
The Bartender suggested.
"Exactly, let’s hurry to the map!"
The old man urged.
"Let’s go!"
Lin Baici actually wanted to light a fire to burn all these corpses, but he was worried that it would cause chaos and attract a large number of Pig-Headed Men, which would be troublesome.
Just as they were about to leave, the corpulent female corpse, whose belly hadn’t been slit open, suddenly twitched its limbs.
Clank!
The body jolted the chains, creating a piercing noise.
Whoosh!
Everyone backed away, fully on guard.
"Bartender, chop off its head!"
Lin Baici ordered, "Everyone else, keep watch!"
The Bartender approached the corpse, jumped up, and with a bone-chopping knife in hand, struck at its neck.
Crack!
The Bartender was strong and the blade was sharp, cleanly severing the spinal column with one swing.
Thud!
The body fell to the ground, kicking up some dust.
Lin Baici walked over intending to examine the body, but it sprang up suddenly and grabbed at the Bartender.
"Fuck!"
The Bartender’s scalp tingled with goosebumps. Luckily, he reacted quickly enough to kick out.
Thump!
The body took a kick to the stomach and toppled over.
This seemed to stir up a hornet’s nest.
All the bodies that had been hanging from hooks on the racks began to violently struggle.
Clatter! Clatter!
It was as if they had come back to life.
"Get out now!"
Lin Baici shouted, sprinting towards the cold storage room’s door.
"Damn it!"
The woman in leather pants was paralyzed with shock, as the gutted corpses suddenly began moving like prey being torn apart by a beast in a desperate struggle – terrifying and eerie.
The old man may have been advanced in years, but he ran the fastest, like an arrow-struck rabbit. However, when he was still more than ten meters away from the iron door,
Boom!
The iron door suddenly closed.
"Fuck, you kidding me?"
The old man was frustrated, rushing to the door and pounding on it.
Bang! Bang!
"Proprietress!"
The old man yelled, but the iron door wouldn’t budge. He turned back to Lin Baici, "What do we do now?"
Lin Baici pulled a pine torch from his backpack and struck it against the ground.
Whoosh!
The torch ignited.
The warm yellow glow, like a mother’s embrace, made the old man involuntarily look over, unable to tear his eyes away.
Lin Baici pressed the torch against the iron door.
Drip, drip.
The white frost on the door turned into water, but there was no sign of the door melting.
[It’s useless. You are now under a much more powerful rule contamination. The power of the torch is suppressed. You can leave only after dealing with the monsters in the cold storage!]
Lin Baici had intended to summon Muscle Buddha to ram the door, but hearing Eater God’s critique, he gave up.
"Prepare to fight!"
