Chapter 3674: Light Bending Skill has Many Uses
The kid was impressed that Rifindio’s mutated bloodline and the Celestial Laws of Blood on his Fangs managed to steal the mark without killing its hosts. However, what impressed him the most was the fact that Futsuka didn’t notice his mark was stolen. Why? He was the reason behind it.
’I didn’t want to give anyone any advantage, even the chosen ones. I made it so even they couldn’t feel the presence of the marks from each other... Unfortunately, that also meant they couldn’t feel their own marks anymore. Those guys noticed that and used Rifindio’s special ability to the fullest. Quite smart.’
Indeed, that was the plan Roan came up with the moment he heard the kid mentioning the Chosen ones couldn’t feel each other as well. There was a huge advantage to that strategy. Because they wouldn’t really kill the other chosen, no one would think they obtained any marks. After all, everyone believed they had to kill the other party.
Also, let’s not forget that when someone dies, the illusion that changes their appearance disappears. So, if Futsuka had died, everyone would have recognized him. That was another way to tell that it was the twins’ group that got his mark since they were to ones who killed the chosen. At that moment, they would become everyone’s target instead. The twins’ group was strong, but they weren’t overconfident. They couldn’t possibly fight everyone else at once... maybe a third of them.
The twins’ group quickly ran somewhere else, now going after Gamera.
Gamera was fighting everywhere, also attacking anyone who had become a target. He wanted to blend in, pretend he was someone without a mark. And, if he succeeded in really killing a chosen, he would increase his own number of chosen marks.
Several minutes passed as battles occurred everywhere. Slowly but certainly, the various powers began to recognize themselves, some allying for the time being. Even if the attacks themselves couldn’t be recognized straight away, there were those who could recognize them after the attacks came out.
The Camazotz Bats were a good example, as their blood-based attacks carried their own race’s traits, and a few Camazotz Bats got together, including Elder Zick.
Gamera, as well as his Divine Jade Turtles, had a similar advantage. At some point, Gamera ended up exchanging attacks with two of his group members, and both sides recognized each other. Now, the three of them were working together as well.
*Bzzz!*
Suddenly, Gamera felt something approaching. He was using his Water Element to create a mist around him, and anything that entered it would be noticed. Gamera’s carapace shone, and the scales generated several shields of a similar pattern to the scales themselves. Well, turtle scales are actually called scutes, but few know this.
Anyway, those energy shields gathered together and formed an even bigger shield in the direction Gamera felt someone’s presence.
*Bang!*
Yet, to his surprise, the energy shields, something his race was very proud of, shattered like they were made out of glass.
"What?!"
His two companions reacted, and they pushed Gamera away.
*Kabrum!*
A Red Lightning passed right where Gamera was a split second ago, disappearing into the distance. They couldn’t help but raise their guards.
The mist around Gamera once again moved, and this time, from two different locations. Gamera immediately retracted into his carapace and then slammed the ground with it. The earth around burst upwards as water element splashed further ahead.
*Bang, bang!*
As Gamera defended against the attacks, his companions immediately went after the sources. The enemy seemed capable of long-range attacks, and they couldn’t even see them right now.
"Wait!" Gamera screamed... which was meaningless since no one could hear anyone else. In any case, it was too late, the two had already left his mist area.
Fortunately, one of them seemed to have realized the risks and quickly returned.
*Bzzz!*
Another Red Lightning came, this time fortifying a slashing wave that carried both Weapon Intent and Sky Energy.
Gamera’s earth and water defense was easily cut through, but Gamera was prepared. The same energy shield appeared, and at the same time, the scaled on his limbs shot back from where the Red Lightning came from.
Gamera’s companion also used his Energy Shields, and both shields created a double-layered barrier where the Red Lightning blasted.
*Kabrum!*
With both Divine Jade Turtle shields together, the Red Lightning was stopped. Gamera was starting to feel impatient. The enemy kept attacking, but he couldn’t find the source. How was the enemy moving invisible like th-
*Tic, tic...*
It was at that moment that Gamera was bitten. Gamera looked to his side, and saw that none other than his companion did that. Why was his companion biting him? "Get the fuck out!"
He countered, but the guy was suddenly pulled back by a bunch of vines faster than Gamera could react. His ’companion’ disappeared from inside his mist... just for nothing else to happen anymore after that. "What the hell is happening here?"
He didn’t feel any poison in his body, which was his first thought after the bite. Since that wasn’t the case, what was the bite for? He had a bad premonition.
Later on, Gamera’s real companions returned, both seemingly deeply injured. Gamera took the proper precautions this time and was able to ascertain that they were the real ones. Ultimately, just like the twins did, Gamera touched them, and they exchanged Divine Sense Messages.
’What happened to you?’
’We met a groundhog and a spirit just as we went out. However, they were just too strong!’
’But it was weird. They easily trashed us. Our defenses couldn’t stop them at all. Yet, they suddenly left without killing us. I don’t understand.’
Gamera narrowed his eyes. ’Were you bitten by them?’
’Bitten?’ His companions got confused. ’No, why?’
Gamera then explained what happened, but the other two Divine Jade Turtles didn’t have an answer. ’Just why didn’t they kill us? They can’t rob the marks if they don’t kill you. Could it be they didn’t know you were you?’
None of them could answer that.
Already quite far away, Rean, Roan, Rifindio, Kentucky, and Celis were moving to the next target.
’Did you get it?’ Roan asked through Divine Sense.
Rifindio nodded. ’Yes. The plan worked perfectly.’
It was obvious Rifindio had pretended to be Gamera’s companion... but how did he do that? Well, pretty simple. Rean’s Light Bending Skill! Since Divine Senses didn’t work, it was quite easy to manipulate light to make Rifindio look like one of Gamera’s companions.
Roan kept attacking from outside Gamera’s mist range. Eventually, Gamera’s companion came out to try to find who was attacking them. After all, Rean’s Light Bending Skill also made them invisible.
At that point, Celis and Kentucky held those two Divine Jade Turles back, but didn’t kill them as expected.
Roan continued to harass Gamera, and Rifindio approached Gamera after Rean manipulated light to make him look like one of his companions.
Of course, Gamera wouldn’t simply let Rifindio approach him. His companions suddenly left, and then only one came back? Any idiot would think that perhaps that guy was an impostor. No one could trust the appearances in this place, after all.
But that wasn’t a problem. There was an easy way for Gamera to think Rifindio was his real companion.
Roan attacked once more, and when Gamera used his Energy Shields... Rifindio did the same thing. It’s just that Rifindio’s Energy Shields were fake, an illusion created by Rean’s Light Element.
Roan’s attack also didn’t carry any power whatsoever. It was just flashy, and no one would notice the difference since, once again, no one could spread Divine Senses. It gave the illusion that the ’companion’ managed to block Roan’s attack by using Gamera’s own Divine Jade Turtle Race energy shields.
Let’s not forget, you can’t see the real form of the skills until you use them, and it looked like Rifindio had used the same skill as Gamera’s since they had the same shape. Thus, Gamera was certain that that ’companion’ was really a Divine Jade Turtle. As soon as his attention went elsewhere, when Roan attacked from another position, Rifindio made his move and bit him!
Finally, Celis used his vines to pull Rifindio away before Gamera could retaliate, and they left the area. All of this would have been impossible if Divine Sense or any other kind of perception worked, like Natural Spatial Perception, for example, since Rifindio had a different cultivation than Gamera’s companion.
’Only the angel left. Let’s go!’ Now, they were close to victory.
