Chapter 42: Hot headed idiot

The fight had started. Lily and Zeke acted as attackers and shields for their three teammates.

"Zeke!" Jay called out.

"I know, few seconds for the fire works to take place" Zeke responded, landing blows on the vampires he could.

Josh’s fire spell didn’t pack as much weight but he was holding his own.

"I want to help, I can help. Let me" Ronnie requested.

"Just watch my back master, I’ll take care of the rest" Lily said. In the palm of her hand, she summoned a small green flame and threw it in the midst of the vampires. The flames consumed the vampires to ash as well as some lycans who couldn’t evade it fast enough.

Just then, Jay summoned a magic circle in front of him that shot out fireballs endlessly.

"Noice!" Zeke exclaimed, looking back at the two.

"Focus!" Jay yelled.

The fight kept on and the vampires figured out the patterns of their moves, they started to move in a more erratic fashion.

Esmeralda charged for them, attempting to get to Josh. Jay’s flames gave her several injuries and she stepped back, screaming in frustration.

Ronnie spotted Zimmer in the distance, observing the scene and smiling wickedly. He charged at him before any of his comrades could notice.

"Ronald!" Lily called out, immediately following after him and leaving Josh open.

"You’re breaking formation!" Josh yelled.

"fuck it. New formation everyone, don’t get killed" Zeke remarked.

Ronnie threw punches at Zimmer, punches which he dodged effortlessly. Zimmer had a smile on his face, he was enjoying toying with Ronnie. Meanwhile Lily tried to clear the attacking vampires in order to get to her master.

"Do you think acting tough will get you her affection? You fancy that woman, no?" Zimmer asked, evading Ronnie’s feeble attacks lightly.

"Shut up! I’ll get those talismans, and we’ll get the hell out of here" Ronnie raged.

"By all means you’re welcome to try, just let me know when you’re ready to get serious, Friend" Zimmer let out a light laugh.

Ronnie got frustrated, he unwrapped the silver chain he wrapped around his wrist earlier and waved it with force. The strength from the aura gloves combined with the chain release a shockwave. A drop of blood rolled down Zimmer’s pale face. Ronnie’s attack had given him a shallow cut.

"Hm, I take it this is you getting serious with me" Zimmer grinned, he wiped the blood of his face and licked the finger clean.

"You’re crazy" Ronnie said, repulsed by the act he just witnessed.

"Oh boy, you’d be surprised" Zimmer said, landing a sharp blow on Ronnie’s left rib area, one sharp enough to fling Ronnie into the nearest wall.

Zimmer quickly followed up with a kick. Ronnie rolled further away. The surrounding vampires cleared that area, focusing on Ronnie’s companions.

Ronnie wheezed as he tried to get up, coughing blood from his internal injuries.

"Ronald!" Lily exclaimed, a look of horror worn across her face.

"I have no choice, I have to do it— I have to manifest that sword" Ronnie thought.

Lily looked at him with concern.

"Wait, how did I just hear that? I’m too far and he didn’t even speak" Lily pondered.

"Li—Ly? I can hear you. How can I hear you?" Ronnie questioned.

Lily went silent for a second, stepping back from the fighting. She looked at Ronnie who was staring at her from across the room.

"You know what I said last night about our soul tie? I think our minds are becoming connected. If we focus, we can communicate" Lily explained.

"I don’t— i don’t get any of this right now, but I’ll manifest the sword" Ronnie replied.

"Don’t! I agree with your squad chief. On no account should you pull out that sword. I’ll figure something out, do you understand me?!" Lily commanded.

Ronnie went silent.

"Interesting, are you two actually able to read each other’s thoughts? Or this is just you taking a last look at the woman you fancy?" Zimmer laughed. He had caught on to the way Lily and Ronnie stared at each other. Ronnie threw an aimless punch and ended up falling on Zimmer’s shoulder.

"It’s been fun. Like Seyra said, you all are truly an interesting bunch. Most fun I’ve had in decades, but my brethen are thinning out. We should conclude this— dinner" Zimmer said as he punched a hole through Ronnie’s gut with his fist.

"No!" the others chorused.

"Ro—nald" Lily winced. Ronnie’s pain was affecting her as well.

"I have no choice" Lily mouthed. She shut her eyes and a bright red aura started to envelope her whole body. Her blonde hair grew longer, horns sprouted out of her head and when she opened her eyes, they glowed dark ruby.

"About time you got serious," Zimmer said, he smiled, throwing Ronnie aside.

The pillars started to rumble, the vampires closest to Lily combust into flames. With every step Lily took closer to Zimmer, the walls cracked and crumbled.

Seyra ran in front of Zimmer, shielding him with her body.

"I’ll die before I let you lay a finger on my master!" She yelled.

"As you wish" Lily commented. She lifted a finger and Seyra was reduced to nothingness almost immediately. The other vampires were terrified, they hid behind each other, trying to avoid getting in her range. The members of squad 12 were left shocked as well.

"This is bad. This is real bad" Jay said.

"Isn’t it good for us? she’ll totally wipe them out" Zeke responded.

"Yes, and us along with them, heck she’ll level the whole town" Josh panicked.

"Ronnie isn’t in good shape. New plan, we need to find over to Ronnie so you can heal him. Our safety and the success of this mission depends on that hot headed idiot" Zeke pointed at Ronnie.

"You’re one to speak" Jay responded.

Just then, they heard a loud whirring sound and an intense bright light followed.

"You look like you could use reinforcements" a voice said. A talisman gate was open and a group of people came through.

They wore trench coats and two among them has sabers. A young man came out of the gate after them and it closed.

"Squad 8. Of all the squads in the agency." Zeke muttered, wearing an irritated expression.

"Ezekiel, need help from your former buddies?" A ginger haired youth among them spoke.

"Leon" Zeke uttered in an irritated tone.
