Chapter 40: Special invitation
"What do you want? Give us one good reason why we shouldn’t kill you right here and now?" Zeke asked.
"One reason? Because you can’t. You’re weak. Now, relax sweetheart. Or wouldn’t you like to hear me out?" She wore a wicked smile, glaring at Zeke.
"Guys, I think we should hear her out," Josh suggested.
"You should listen to this one, he is smart" she teased.
After that, a brief silence followed again. Lily and Ronnie stared at her with their arms folded.
"As I said before, my master would like an audience with you. You are guests in his town after all" she said.
"His town? What makes you think we’ll go anywhere with you?" Jay asked.
"You don’t have to. But I think you should if you want to go home" She stated.
"It’s like we suspected, our talismans," Jay said.
"Yes. My master requested them.
"We want them back! Who is this master you speak of?" Jay asked.
"You talk a lot darling. Do you always talk this much?" She asked.
"If you will honor his invitation, meet me at the location where you had your battle earlier tonight. I do apologize for the conduct of my comrades, they were too— rough" she expressed.
"I do hope you show up. You two especially, there’s something about you that I find intriguing" she said, glancing at Ronnie and Lily at the corner.
After talking, she walked off and vanished into nothingness. Almost immediately, the receptionist awoke, overwhelmed with the wonder of how he got to the ground.
"We’re going" Zeke said.
"Do we have a choice?" Jay added.
"Could be a trap, has anyone thought of that?" Josh inquired, his voice sounding a little higher than normal.
"I’m hoping it is. I’d like to see this master of theirs" Ronnie spoke, walking off into the motel. The guys all turned to Lily, she shrugged nonchalantly and followed behind him.
"I guess it’s decided. We really are going" Zeke stated.
"I don’t feel too good about this" Jay said.
"I know, I don’t either. We’ll keep trying to reach Cynthia. In the meantime, you should get some shut eye to replenish your aura. We might just need that healing ability of yours again tomorrow" Zeke expressed. Jay nodded and walked off. Josh followed after him.
Ronnie entered the room and Lily entered a few seconds after him. He flicked on the light switch and the lightbulb came on, but it appeared to be dim.
"You wanted to talk, Lily?" He asked in a stern manner.
"Yes. This won’t take long. There’s something I’d like to confirm. Sit" Lily instructed, staring at Ronnie, analyzing him with her eyes.
He did as she asked and took a sit on the bed. Lily sat next to him and stayed silent for a moment.
"Take your shirt off" she instructed.
"Wha— no! Now is not the time. I mean, we’re just friends right?" Ronnie stuttered. His mood had completely shifted from stern to flustered in a matter of seconds.
"Relax Ronald. I do not wish to be intimate with you. That is— truly shameless," Lily replied. She as well, was flustered.
After a bit of awkward silence, He took off his shirt and Lily gasped.
"The inscriptions, you have inscriptions on your chest now. My sigil" Lily spoke.
"I do?" Ronnie asked, trying to look down at his chest.
"It’s around here, where your heart is" Lily spoke softly, placing her warm hands on the sigil on his chest. He looked into her eyes and she stared back into his.
"I’ve never noticed that one before, just the one on my arm" Ronnie said in an equally soft tone.
"It wasn’t there. It just appeared. I think our bond as master and servant is tightening. It explains why you behaved the way you did earlier tonight" she explained.
"What does our bond have to do with that?" Ronnie asked.
"There’s a chance of me overtaking you, consuming you till there’s not much of you left" she said.
"When you fought that lycan, we synced deeply for a moment. It was almost as if I could here your thoughts. I could hear the message you wanted to pass loud and clear" She added.
"Is it so bad if we sync completely and I become like you?" Ronnie asked.
Lily stayed silent and took a deep sigh before replying.
"I don’t want you to be me, Ronald. I like you the way you are. I’ve done a lot of things in my life. Things that were hard to do but I didn’t have the time to regret my actions" Lily said.
"So what are you saying? It’s not my fault that this happened" Ronnie spoke, keeping his eyes locked on hers. Her golden hair had covered part of her right eye.
"I know but you have to fight it whenever it comes. Whenever you feel like that, you have to resist. I— I like you better when you’re yourself" Lily said. Her face was flushed red and her ears heated up. She was getting more flustered. Ronnie sat there on the bed, staring at her speechlessly.
"You should get some rest. We don’t know how tomorrow will be like" Ronnie suggested.
"Good call—" Lily said, snapping back to reality.
That night, Lily slept with her hands holding on tightly to her master’s hand. Ronnie felt comforted by the warmth of Lily’s skin next to his. Ronnie hardly got any sleep, he spent most of the night adoring Lily.
A knock was heard on the door.
"Ronald, Lilith, it’s morning already. We need a plan for when we get there" Zeke spoke from outside the door.
"We’ll be down in a few" Ronnie answered. He took a look at Lily’s sleeping face and smiled.
He grabbed his shirt, throwing it on and he headed to where the others were without waking Lily up.
Lily opened her eyes immediately she heard Ronnie leave the door.
"Why do I feel the way I feel when we’re in such a situation like this one? My chest hurts whenever I’m around him. What should I do about the human" Lily thought as she buried her face in a pillow.
