Chapter 66: Chapter 66- reaction
Lilian’s mind was flooded with one thought: I don’t want to be with Morrison. I don’t want to be with Morrison. So, without thinking, she replied to Karl,
"Maybe it’s better if we don’t give him a ride..."
The moment the words left her mouth, she immediately felt they sounded off and wanted to take them back. But it was too late—Karl had already stepped outside and caught up with Morrison.
"Bro, Lilian says she’s not really comfortable giving you a ride. You should just take a cab."
Lilian was stunned. Karl just said out loud what she hadn’t even dared admit to herself. She felt utterly defeated. Morrison’s face instantly darkened to an almost frightening degree.
Karl, oblivious to the tension, explained casually,
"You know how it is—me and Lilian are in the heat of young love. Sometimes feelings get a little... uncontrollable. Having you in our car just wouldn’t be appropriate."
"In the car, huh? What, you guys planning to... do more? Do the thing?" Morrison’s roar nearly shattered the air.
Karl covered his ears in embarrassment while Lilian’s face flushed crimson, utterly mortified standing there.
Linda, who had followed them out, heard Morrison’s crude words and stormed over, pinching his arm hard.
"What are you saying? Lilian and Karl are pure kids! Watch your mouth!"
Morrison, already furious, yanked his arm free and spun around to leave.
Since Lilian refused to give him a ride, Morrison had no choice but to stomp into his own car and roar away with the engine growling loudly.
Karl turned back to Lilian and walked her home. The two of them were silent for the entire ride.
Lilian felt an inexplicable irritation brewing inside her. Karl seemed perfectly fine, humming quietly to himself in the car.
When they pulled up at Lilian’s place, she unbuckled her seatbelt and finally spoke up.
"Look, I get that we should pretend to be close in front of both our parents, but honestly? Tonight was way too much. It wasn’t necessary..."
Karl glanced over, his dark eyes shining clearly behind his glasses. He stared at her unblinking, and Lilian suddenly felt a pang of guilt under his gaze. Just as she was about to look away, he suddenly asked,
"What’s your relationship with my brother?"
Lilian almost bit her tongue in shock.
"W-what kind of relationship? I have no relationship with him at all."
Karl’s question caught her completely off guard. Without any defense, she answered with obvious hesitation and nervousness. Lilian never imagined Karl would ask something like that out of the blue.
She had been very careful keeping her relationship with Morrison a secret—her brother and both their parents had never suspected a thing. And tonight, she hadn’t acted out of line at all. So how did Karl figure it out?
No matter if Karl truly saw through her or not, she absolutely refused to admit anything.
Karl’s gaze sharpened as he looked at her, his voice calm but probing.
"Why so nervous? I’m just saying, your relationship with my brother doesn’t seem... normal. So I’m asking."
A playful smile curved his lips as he added,
"Are you really sure there’s nothing ’pure’ between you and my brother?"
Lilian swallowed hard but nodded stiffly,
"Yeah, nothing at all."
At this moment, they truly had no relationship. If anything, it was all in the past.
Karl gave a knowing nod.
"Got it."
Lilian wasted no time saying goodbye.
"Thanks for the ride. I’ll head upstairs now. Drive safe."
Then she hurried off.
Karl stayed in the car, watching her retreating figure with a thoughtful look.
With his intelligence and keen observation skills, did she really think she could fool him? Or maybe fool his brother?
There was absolutely no way they had no relationship. Most likely, she was the ex who used to cook for his brother.
How did Karl figure out something was off between them? First, Morrison—his brother—was a master at controlling his emotions, smooth in any situation. But the moment he saw Lilian tonight, his expression clearly changed.
Shock, followed by barely suppressed anger. That anger lingered through the entire dinner.
Alongside that, his brother wore a face like an ice cube, spiced with jealousy, teasing, and nonsensical rambling.
It was unmistakably out of character for him.
If Lilian were just an ordinary girl, Morrison would have been the one most enthusiastically hosting and warming the atmosphere tonight.
And Lilian—though Karl had only known her a few days—he could tell she was genuine and simple. But tonight, she was visibly nervous, especially when she looked at Morrison—her eyes darted away each time.
Why was Karl so meticulous in his observations?
Well, as a researcher, keen observation was second nature. He could analyze any situation and deduce possible outcomes. Tonight, he simply applied his professional skills to life.
So Karl concluded—this so-called girlfriend of his was hiding something with his womanizing big brother.
He was honestly surprised. After all, Morrison was famously a heartbreaker, adored by countless women since childhood—girls in his youth, women as an adult.
Yet Karl had never seen his brother lose his composure for anyone before. Morrison was always casual about relationships—easy come, easy go. But with Lilian, it was obvious he hadn’t quite managed to "go."
What exactly went down between them? Karl didn’t know. But he wanted to find out if Lilian was the one who tamed his notorious playboy brother.
That’s why he’d been so affectionate with her at dinner, trying to provoke a reaction from Morrison.
And his brother’s reaction? That was truly interesting.
When a charming playboy wolf meets a pure little white rabbit, who ends up winning? Does the big bad wolf gobble her up, or does the innocent rabbit tame the wolf?
Karl stroked his chin, a mischievous grin curling at the corner of his lips. It was rare to see his brother lose control like this, and Karl was more than happy to keep pushing his buttons.
After driving away from Lilian’s apartment, Karl pulled out his phone and called Morrison.
Morrison had just arrived home, kicking and knocking over anything within reach, the loud clatters echoing as he stormed toward his liquor cabinet.
He’d just poured himself a glass and was about to take a sip when his phone rang.
Seeing Karl’s name on the screen, he almost threw the phone across the room.
But in the end, he didn’t. He answered coolly, "What is it?"
Karl’s voice came cheerfully from the other end.
"So, tomorrow’s the weekend. Got any plans?"
Morrison, irritated, didn’t want to waste time with nonsense.
"Get to the point."
Karl’s tone stayed sunny and sincere.
"I’m going hiking with Lilian tomorrow. Want to come? Or maybe you can give me some dating tips—I’ve never been in a relationship before, don’t know how to make a girl happy—"
Before Karl could finish, the call abruptly ended.
Karl put away his phone, chuckling to himself as he continued driving.
Looks like his infamous ladies’ man brother was really in trouble this time.
