Chapter 65: Chapter 65- as Karl’s girlfriend

Karl stepped in to smooth things over, casting a gentle smile toward Lilian.

"Hey babe, so you like fish, huh? No worries, no worries. Come here, I’ll help you get as much as you want. No paywalls, my favorite kind of site. Gotta leave a good review for that!"

Then, with the care of a devoted boyfriend, he used his chopsticks to pile piece after piece of fish onto her plate.

Lilian’s skin prickled all over at the way Karl casually called her "babe." What the hell was he thinking? Why all of a sudden so attentive? Their whole thing was just pretend anyway.

Across the table, Morrison’s face was already stormy, and Karl’s arm around Lilian’s shoulder, calling her "babe" like that, made Morrison look like he was ready to flip the table.

Karl filled Lilian’s plate with a generous helping of fish and said affectionately,

"Eat up. My dad’s cooking is top-notch. If you like it, come over anytime and I’ll have him cook for you."

"Thank you..." Lilian replied softly, lowering her head to eat quickly.

Morrison, sitting opposite, took a few bites of fish then set down his chopsticks, turning to his father.

"Dad, your cooking’s really slipped lately. This fish tastes awful."

He then glanced at Lilian and added,

"Next time you’ve got important guests, just let me know ahead of time. I’ll cook for them myself."

To everyone else, Morrison’s words sounded casual enough. But to Lilian, they stung sharply, as if he was hinting at all those times he used to cook for her—memories that made her cheeks burn with a mix of embarrassment and heat.

Linda snorted beside her.

"Oh, finally some nice words. But it’s rare you’d actually offer to cook. Didn’t you just cook for your girlfriend all this time?"

"Yeah," Morrison replied without missing a beat,

"Served her for half a year and some people don’t even appreciate it."

He took a sip from his wine glass and squinted through the transparent cup at a certain damn woman across the table. Seeing the discomfort flicker across her face made his mood lift considerably.

Yeah, she pissed him off this much—there was no way he’d make it easy on her.

Lilian felt like she was about to explode on the spot. He was downright cruel, deliberately tossing ambiguous words to needle her, making her miserable and restless.

Just when she thought the topic was over, Karl suddenly perked up.

"Yo, bro, you actually had a girlfriend who made you cook for her? Who’s this lucky girl? Which family’s daughter could win the favor of Lord Morrison like that?"

Morrison looked up at Karl, a sly smile playing on his lips.

"You wanna know?"

Karl nodded eagerly,

"Of course! I’m dying to know. Tell me, which girl had that much charm? Was she from Burg Eltz? So, why did you two break up?"

Karl bombarded him with questions like a curious child.

Everyone else at the table was equally curious, especially Linda. She’d always wondered about Morrison’s girlfriend—the one who got him cooking—but had never managed to get any info.

Morrison smiled knowingly. Could he really say the girl was the very Lilian sitting next to Karl right now, openly known as Karl’s girlfriend?

Lilian was practically terrified by the smile on his face, fearing he might blurt out their secret right then and there. She had been eating crystal shrimp, but desperate to shift the topic, she quickly grabbed a shrimp and popped it into Karl’s mouth.

"Uncle Morrison made these shrimp really delicious. You should try some."

She flashed Karl a big, bright smile, hoping their couple’s intimacy would distract everyone from the question of who Morrison’s girlfriend really was.

Sure enough, several heads turned, drawn to the affectionate little moment between them. Linda’s grin stretched so wide it looked like her face might split.

Karl’s smile grew even wider as he chewed the shrimp and said,

"Mmm, it’s really good. Even though my brother says Dad’s cooking has gone downhill lately, it tastes extra special since you fed it to me."

Karl always managed to drag Morrison into their lovey-dovey exchanges without missing a beat.

"Smack!"

Just as Karl finished speaking, a sharp slap echoed across the table. Morrison slammed his chopsticks down and stood up abruptly, his face as cold as ice.

"Sorry, I’m heading to the restroom."

Without another word, he grabbed the cigarette and lighter from beside him and left.

From behind came Karl’s playful voice,

"I still want more shrimp. Can you feed me another one?"

He sounded like a hopelessly smitten fool, utterly lost in love.

That was exactly how Morrison silently judged Karl. He never expected the usually clueless, all-work-no-love Karl to say such things and act so intimately.

Love really was a powerful force.

Heh. All Morrison could do was scoff coldly to himself.

Dinner ended in that unbearably awkward atmosphere for Lilian. She felt like her stomach was about to give out from the tension.

Karl had been unusually attentive all night, which Lilian found excessive—even for pretending to be close in front of his parents. It was just too much. She resolved she’d have to talk to him privately later and tell him to tone it down.

After dinner, Linda tried to convince Lilian to stay longer, but Lilian was determined to leave. If she stayed any longer, she was sure Morrison’s icy gaze would freeze her on the spot. Claiming other errands to run, Lilian finally got Linda to let her go and Karl offered to walk her home.

Morrison turned to Karl and said,

"I’ve been drinking tonight. You’re coming with me to my place."

Before either Karl or Lilian could react, Morrison headed straight out, walking toward Karl’s car.

Lilian had thought she’d finally escaped Morrison, only to realize she’d be trapped riding in the same car with him all the way home. Just the thought made her want to break down.

Karl looked at her, his dark eyes sparkling, silently asking,

"Should we give him a ride?"
