Chapter 362: Chapter 362 : Adventure In The Human Realm (2)
"Shut up now, we don’t know whether the creatures are still alive or not," Gu Shengxia hissed at Wang Chunli.
"Huh? You dare to ask your shixiong to shut up, you rascal? Are you seeking death?" Wang Chunli playfully clamped his arm around Gu Shengxia’s neck in a mock chokehold, eliciting a squawk of protest from the man.
Gu Shengxia and Wang Chunli entered the sect on the same day, but Wang Chunli got to be Gu Shengxia’s shixiong because he arrived at the sect fifteen whole minutes earlier than Gu Shengxia.
While Wang Chunli rarely invoked his seniority, Gu Shengxia felt a constant prickle of injustice. Fifteen minutes! He couldn’t shake the feeling that his entire destiny hinged on those lost fifteen minutes. This was also why he had the constant urge to prove himself in front of everyone, particularly this shixiong who only became a shixiong because he came a little bit earlier than him!
"Shhhh, Shixiong, please be quiet!"
Gu Shengxia licked his lips in anticipation. Back in his original village, he used to be a capable hunter. Or at least his mother used to say that he was one. No one else ever did.
But hey, his mother did not have any reason to lie. If anything, she was the only person in this entire world who never hesitated from speaking the truth.
A sudden rustling of leaves in the distance snapped the two men to attention. With a ferocious roar that would have made even the most seasoned hunters slap their faces in shame, Gu Shengxia charged forward. Unfortunately, his enthusiasm seemed to outweigh his agility, as he tripped over a hidden root and went sprawling face-first into the undergrowth.
Thankfully, Wang Chunli proved to be of some use.
The man kicked off the ground with a burst of energy, launching himself skyward as his blue and white robe billowed dramatically behind him. While his newfound mastery of light foot skill allowed him to navigate the air with a degree of ease, his skill was still in its infancy stage.
He was more akin to a fledgling taking its first tentative hops than a soaring eagle. In a chase against an experienced criminal, his limitations might have proven insurmountable. But this time, his quarry was a mere child who shrieked in terror as soon as Wang Chunli’s imposing shadow engulfed him.
Wang Chunli’s claw-like hand swooped down, seizing Xie Junjie by his collar with a triumphant cry. He lifted his prize high into the air. "Gotcha!"
"Really??? Shixiong, you are the best!!!"
Gu Shengxia, still sporting the dirt and grime from his earlier tumble, came scrambling towards his shixiong, eyes blazing with excitement. His face, however, fell like a stone as he caught sight of a mere child dangling in Wang Chunli’s grasp.
But wait.
Gu Shengxia blinked, his eyes widening in disbelief. A strange chill crept down his spine as he stared at the two bluish horns jutting from the little boy’s head. That was not all. He also had a long, thick tail poking out of his rear side.
"Let me go! Let me go!" Xie Junjie cried out in fear.
And the strange creature could talk. Wang Chunli held Xie Junjie at arm’s length, as if worried that the latter might morph into a monster and eat him whole.
"Shidi, ah... Brother Gu, what is this thing?" Wang Chunli asked, dumbfounded.
Gu Shengxia scratched at his head.
"I also don’t know. No kid in my village has horns or tails."
"Same. Kid, what on earth are you?" Wang Chunli asked as Xie Junjie thrashed against his grasp, kicking his legs in a frantic attempt to break free. Unfortunately, the child’s efforts were like a kitten trying to topple a tree - valiant but ultimately futile.
And then, Gu Shengxia had an epiphany.
"Brother Wang! I know what it is!" he cried out in renewed excitement. "It is a dragon spirit!"
"Huh? A dragon spirit?"
"Yes! Look at his horns and tail! He looks like a child, but I am sure that this little dragon has lived for almost five hundred years or so. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to assume a human form!"
Wang Chunli blinked at Gu Shengxia.
"So... what should we do with a dragon spirit? Assuming that this child really is one."
"Well, Brother Wang, hear me out. Such spirits are generally very powerful, not to mention dragon spirits. Dragons are the rarest, strongest, most magnificent form of creature on earth! If we eat their flesh and drink their blood... I am sure that it will help us a lot in our cultivation!"
Xie Junjie turned pale.
"No!" he cried out. "I am not a dragon spirit! Don’t eat me!"
Gu Shengxia and Wang Chunli fixed their gaze upon Xie Junjie, their eyes wide with an intensity that bordered on the unsettling. It was as if they were looking at the most delectable dish they had ever encountered, their mouths watering and their stomachs growling in anticipation.
"Now that you say that, this child does look tasty," Wang Chunli slowly said. "He looks so healthy. I bet that his flesh is sweet."
Xie Junjie shrieked.
Was this the end of his life? Was he meant to be eaten by two human beings on his first excursion to the Human Realm?
Tears welled up in his eyes when he recalled the people he left behind.
His twin brother.
His father.
His Imperial Uncle.
His grandmother and grandfather.
Auntie Mingyu and Auntie Qingyun.
Head Servant Zhou...
"Noooooo!" the little dragon cried out and struggled even more against Wang Chunli’s grip. "I don’t want to be eaten! Noooooo!!!"
Just then, something small but hard bumped against Wang Chunli’s legs, aiming viciously at the soft spots behind his knees. The man widened his eyes and screamed from pain.
"OUCH!"
The sudden hit made Wang Chunli drop Xie Junjie to the ground. Disoriented and scared, the latter crawled on the ground on shaky arms and legs. He was then yanked forcefully to his feet by Zhang Mingrui, who hissed into his ears, "Run, Junjie, run!!!"
