Chapter 326: Chapter 326 : The Final Battle (4)
A twisted smile distorted Liu Wenyuan’s face as he watched his wolves effortlessly overpower Fuxi Palace’s guards. The ravenous beasts stormed through the palace gates, their savage growls echoing through the halls of power.
Liu Wenyuan remained a passive observer, his hands resting comfortably on his hips. He had no need to intervene; the wolves were his instruments of vengeance, his loyal executors of a plan that had been meticulously crafted within the depths of his vengeful heart.
With a morbid fascination, he listened to the sounds that drifted from within the palace – the chilling crunch of bones, the agonizing screams of the Fuxi Palace’s residents, and the sickening splatters of blood against the wooden floors. These sounds were the symphony of his revenge, a macabre melody that filled him with a perverse sense of satisfaction.
His spirit companion, a wolf of unmatched ferocity, had been given a specific task – to rip the unborn child off Xie Jianyu’s stomach. Liu Wenyuan yearned to hold the child, to feel its fragile lifeblood seep through his fingers as he exacted his long-awaited revenge.
As the final echoes of terror-stricken screams faded into an eerie silence, Liu Wenyuan’s lips curved into a sinister grin, signaling his triumph over the feeble resistance that Fuxi Palace had mustered in defense of its master. With an air of nonchalant arrogance, he sauntered past the palace gates, his heart pounding with a gruesome anticipation that bordered on madness.
He envisioned a scene of carnage, the courtyard transformed into a macabre tableau of half-eaten human bodies, a testament to his wolves’ ferocity and his own thirst for vengeance. However, the sight that greeted him was far different from the one he had conjured in his twisted imagination.
Instead of a battlefield littered with the remains of his enemies, Liu Wenyuan found the courtyard littered with the lifeless bodies of his own wolves. Their once-proud forms lay sprawled across the verdant green grass, their eyes vacant and reflecting the moon’s pale glow, their fangs forever frozen in a grimace of eternal pain.
Liu Wenyuan drew in a deep breath, the air filling his lungs with a mixture of disbelief and a chilling sense of dread.
A surge of panic seized Liu Wenyuan’s heart. His mind, once consumed by the perverse satisfaction of his anticipated victory, now raced with the desperate need for escape. He spun around, his muscles tensing, ready to flee the courtyard and the ghosts of his failed vengeance.
But before he could take a single step, the heavy wooden gates of Fuxi Palace slammed shut with a deafening thud, cutting off his escape route and sealing his fate within the confines of his own twisted ambition. The guards, whom he had assumed vanquished by his wolves’ ferocity, materialized from the shadows, their eyes gleaming with a cold, unwavering determination that sent shivers down his spine.
Without wasting any time, Liu Wenyuan drew the same spell in the air to create the portal he used to summon the wolves. And yet, before he was able to complete the drawing, an excruciating pain shot through his elbow.
An unseen force struck him with the precision and force of a lightning bolt, causing an agonizing pain so intense that his vision blurred and his body convulsed in an uncontrollable spasm. The demonic spell that he had yet to complete dissolved like a fleeting dream.
A chuckle was heard behind him.
"You must think that you are very smart," Xie Jianshen said.
In his hands, he held Liu Wenyuan’s spirit companion by his neck. The wolf’s eyes were wide with fear, mirroring the terror that gripped its master’s heart. A blade, gleaming ominously in the moonlight, rested gently against the wolf’s throat.
The wolf’s breath came in short, ragged gasps, its body trembling uncontrollably as it struggled in vain against the iron grip that held it captive.
"Y-you..."
Xie Jianshen’s smile illuminated his face, its radiance as warm and inviting as the sun’s golden rays. Yet, amidst this display of warmth, a chilling contrast emerged, for his eyes held a depth of iciness that rivaled the darkest corners of the night.
With one swift movement, he slashed the wolf’s throat open.
"NOOOOOO...!!!!"
Liu Wenyuan’s gut-wrenching scream did not help at all.
The wolf let out a single pained yelp before life was drained from its body, leaving only a lifeless husk behind. Its eyes, once gleaming with life and vitality, dulled into empty pools, reflecting the emptiness that now consumed its soul.
Xie Jianshen casually tossed the bloody carcass to the ground. The knife soon landed next to it.
"You... You... why, youuuu...!!!"
Liu Wenyuan dragged himself from the ground. He lunged at Xie Jianshen while holding onto his broken elbow.
Xie Jianshen effortlessly deflected Liu Wenyuan’s attack with a set of fluid and precise movements. With a swift, practiced motion, he sent Liu Wenyuan crashing back to the ground.
Liu Wenyuan groaned when his broken elbow hit the grassy surface. But his groan was quickly swallowed by a scream of terror as Xie Jianshen’s foot pressed down upon his shattered arm.
"No! Please! Please! It hurts so much!!!"
Tears sprang up in Liu Wenyuan’s eyes. He desperately tried to pull his broken arm off Xie Jianshen’s grip, but his attempts proved to be futile.
"You cannot do this! You are the eldest son of the late Heavenly Emperor," Liu Wenyuan sobbed. "The eldest prince of the Heavenly Empire. You are the Shuiran Palace Mistress, you..."
"Oh, spare me all the titles."
Xie Jianshen clicked with his tongue and extended his hand toward Head Servant Zhou, who quickly approached with a pure white handkerchief.
He then wiped wolf blood off his fingers and tossed the used handkerchief to the ground.
"I hate the stupid titles," Xie Jianshen declared. "Do you think that you can escape death by reminding me of the chains that shackled my hands and feet for all these years?"
Liu Wenyuan’s face contorted into a twisted sneer, his lips curling into a grotesque mockery of a smile.
"Am I wrong?"
Xie Jianshen’s eyes flashed dangerously. He lowered himself to the ground and hissed at Liu Wenyuan.
"I am going to show you who I really am," he said. "By the time I finish, you will know whether your conviction holds true or not."
