Chapter 240: Chapter 240 : The Xie Bloodline (1)

The Dragon Awakening Festival commemorated the awakening of the legendary First Dragon from his deep sleep after he defeated the evil Black Star Naga in a battle that lasted for seventy-seven days.

For as long as he could remember, little Xie Jianyu was used to celebrate the festival in the Golden Dragon Palace with his father and stepmother. The two adults were the Emperor and the Empress of the entire Heavenly Realm, and they did not know how to deal with a child.

Xie Jianyu was thus forced to become a little adult, always sitting quietly and listening to the adults around him talk about various political issues whenever they were around.

One time, Xie Jianshen made his little brother spend the festival at Shuiran Palace with him instead, but the Emperor did not look favorably upon his action.

After all, Xie Jianyu was the Crown Prince of the Heavenly Realm. He was not supposed to mingle with the lions, not even when his elder brother was around.

Before the day ended, the then-seven-year-old Xie Jianyu was forced to return to the Golden Dragon Palace. Swallowing back his tears, he continued spending the yearly festival in a gloomy and cheerless mood.

But this year was different.

This year, he was finally allowed to celebrate the festival in Fuxi Palace.

Xie Jianyu was very excited, and so were the entire inhabitants of the palace.

From early morning, Fuxi Palace’s front yard was loaded with craft materials. The storage was practically plundered empty to ensure that the first festival celebration at Fuxi Palace ended as a resounding success.

The maids and servants personally drew, cut, and painted the thick layered paper with their own hands. Once they were done, the front yard was transformed into a miniaturized battle scene between the First Dragon and the Black Star Naga.

Xie Jianyu was in the middle of painting the paper First Dragon with white and blue paints when the first guests arrived.

"Little Yu, Happy Dragon Awakening Festival," Xie Jianshen said with a smile.

"Big Brother."

The two siblings exchanged loving hugs.

Xie Jianshen was not alone. He brought his husband and son with him.

"It is good to finally be able to celebrate in Fuxi Palace." Xie Jianshen carefully ran his fingers across the paper cutouts. "I missed the times when we stayed here. Mother was really good with these handicrafts."

"Oh, don’t say that," Jiang Rufeng said in reply. "We have always had a fun celebration at Shuiran Palace every year."

"It is not the same."

Xie Jianshen scoffed.

"How can the Dragon Awakening Festival be celebrated with the lions?"

"But Jianshen, you were the person in charge of the celebration..."

While the old married couple fell into a civil argument, Xie Jianyu directed his attention to Jiang Muchen, who kept his head lowered the entire time.

"Muchen, how have you been doing?"

Jiang Muchen raised his head and looked at Xie Jianyu. His eyes were slightly reddened, and he looked like he was about to burst into tears any second.

"Little Uncle, I..."

The two young men had not met each other since Jiang Muchen professed his feelings for Xie Jianyu. The alpha was too ashamed to meet Xie Jianyu again. Had it not been for the festival celebration, he might spent the rest of his life hiding away from Xie Jianyu.

"Muchen, don’t overthink it," Xie Jianyu subtly referred to their last encounter. He was pretty sure that Jiang Muchen’s parents knew nothing about it. "I have missed you a lot."

Jiang Muchen choked with sobs.

"Little Uncle, I too..."

His words were cut short when Zhang Fengxi’s voice rang out from inside the palace.

"Wow, look at the decoration. It is like being transported to the grand battle of thousands of years ago."

Zhang Fengxi brought his bird, Caihong with him. The bird almost reached its adult size now. It spread its wings and soared toward the sky with a happy squeal.

Zhang Fengxi and Jiang Muchen pinned each other with glares.

"Prince Jiang Muchen, nice to see you."

"General Zhang Fengxi, congratulations on the promotion," Jiang Muchen said as he secretly cursed Zhang Fengxi in his head.

"If not for Little Uncle’s repetitive assistance, could you even get any promotion in your entire life???"

Zhang Fengxi flashed his wife’s nephew a scary grin.

"Thank you for the sincere congratulations," he said in reply while at the same time suppressing what he really wanted to say to Jiang Muchen.

"You perverted nephew. Jianbao is your uncle! How dare you harbor a sinful desire for him???"

The air between the two alphas was loaded with gunpowder. In order to dilute the animosity between them, Xie Jianyu forced himself to smile and said, "There you go. We are family, so we need to get along well with each other."

"Oh, yes," Zhang Fengxi said, his eyes gleaming with malice.

"Of course," Jiang Muchen added through gritted teeth.

"Master, the children from the orphanage are here," Mingyu announced with a bow.

"Oh, good. Let’s properly welcome them to the palace."

Behind Xie Jianyu’s back, Zhang Fengxi and Jiang Muchen shot each other daggers.

Xie Jianshen furrowed his brows when he heard the words "orphanage" and "children".

"Little Yu, did you invite the orphans to enjoy the festival at Fuxi Palace this year?" He asked as he walked with his younger brother toward the palace gate.

"Yes, Big Brother. I am thinking of maybe adopting a child to keep the Fuxi Palace Master seat within the Xie family."

A deep crease was formed on Xie Jianshen’s forehead.

"Adopting a child is a noble cause, but the blood that courses in his veins will not be Xie blood. Little Yu, are you sure?"

Xie Jianyu shot his elder brother a bitter smile.

"Unfortunately, there is no one left with Xie blood who can inherit the Fuxi Palace Master position, Brother."

All of the children were immature. They still had their dragon horns and tails protruding from their foreheads and rear sides respectively. They stood in a row with stiff backs and frozen smiles in front of the palace gate. They almost looked like they were about to enlist in the army.

"Hello," Xie Jianyu greeted them all with a warm smile, upon which the children’s frozen facial expressions quickly melted. Eyes big and jaws dropped in amazement, they mumbled in unison, "So beautiful."

The children were accompanied by their guardian, the orphanage head.

The man was exceedingly handsome with a pair of gentle eyes and a charming smile. Although he did not wear expensive clothing, he exuded a charismatic aura that was typical of nobles. The orphanage head cupped his hands in front of the Xie siblings and bowed his head in respect.

"Greetings to Your Majesty the Crown Prince and Shuiran Palace Mistress, I am the orphanage head, Xie Jianzhi."
