Chapter 239: Chapter 239 : Grandchildren (3)

A mischievous smile adorned Zhang Fengxi’s handsome face. He picked up the picture book from the floor, patted some dust off it, and then languidly closed the distance between them.

Xie Jianyu’s cheeks burned with embarrassment.

"It is not mine!" he cried out before Zhang Fengxi even made a single comment. The alpha’s smile grew wider, and there was a familiar glint across his eyes.

"My wife, it is almost dinner time and yet you walk around with such heavy reading materials in your arms. Let me provide you with some assistance."

"No need!"

Xie Jianyu moved the pile of books out of Zhang Fengxi’s reach, but the rapid movement caused the pile to collapse instead.

"Aaahhh!!!"

The books fell one by one, akin to Xie Jianyu’s crumbling dignity.

They just had to fall open and show the two young men even more provocative positions between couples, who were so intimately entangled with each other that it became difficult to recognize which limbs belonged to whom.

Zhang Fengxi whistled.

"You have an interesting collection there, Jianbao."

Xie Jianyu did not know whether to laugh or cry. But Zhang Fengxi knew better. He was more than happy to drag Xie Jianyu into their shared bedroom for some snack before dinner.

Dinner that night was served a shichen later than usual.

The residents of the Fuxi Palace had meanwhile grown accustomed to avoiding their master’s bed chamber when the Crown Prince Consort came to visit.

No one dared to disturb them.

Even passing in front of their private chambers was strictly forbidden.

When Xie Jianyu and Zhang Fengxi finally emerged from the bed chamber, they had changed into fresh, new clothes. The maids quietly went inside to prepare the bedroom for nighttime, all the while avoiding to look at the couple.

Meanwhile, the books had been moved to another place at utmost discretion. Oh, the poor servants and maids who had to soil their eyes to do the job. Xie Jianyu promised himself to give them some compensation later on.

Having tossed Xie Jianyu around for hours before the feeding time, Zhang Fengxi was especially attentive to his disgruntled wife. He made sure to give Xie Jianyu the first bites of every dish to express his endless adoration and love.

"I have decided not to appoint Ye Penglai as the successor to Fuxi Palace Master’s seat," Xie Jianyu shared his news of the day.

"Oh?"

Zhang Fengxi hid a smirk as he took a bite from a chicken leg.

"What happened?"

"He is not the man I imagined him to be. I cannot entrust the entire dragon clan to him."

"Ah. Who is your next best candidate?"

Xie Jianyu’s expression turned gloomy. "Unfortunately, no one is good enough."

Zhang Fengxi’s hand paused over the dishes.

When he and Liu Yichen colluded to invade Fuxi Palace back then, he did not think much about the continuation of Fuxi Palace. Liu Yichen had promised the palace master seat to Ye Penglai, the traitor.

That being said, Zhang Fengxi did not know much about the worthy ones, who might take over the Fuxi Palace after Xie Jianyu’s demise.

"Are you going to appoint a male alpha as your successor?"

Xie Jianyu shook his head.

"Alpha, yes. Not necessarily a male. He or she must be able to continue the dragon bloodline."

It made sense, because the one to rule over Fuxi Palace had to be a dragon with no exception.

Xie Jianyu drew random patterns on his bowl of congee with his chopsticks.

"Fengxi, can we adopt a child?"

Zhang Fengxi blinked at Xie Jianyu.

"Say, what?"

"A child from the dragon clan," Xie Jianyu added. "Just in case I cannot find anyone good enough to inherit my position, I will raise the child with my own hands."

Zhang Fengxi hummed.

"Sure."

Xie Jianyu lit up.

"Really? You don’t mind at all?"

Zhang Fengxi reached out and pinched Xie Jianyu’s soft cheek.

"Of course not, my sweet Jianbao. Just make sure to lock the child in a cage when we retreat to our bedroom at night."

The alpha then gave him a naughty wink.

"...."

Did Zhang Fengxi mistake a dragon child for a dragon pet?

My husband is going to be a marvelous adoptive father, Xie Jianyu thought to himself sarcastically.

It did not make sense to adopt children who came from intact families, because Xie Jianyu did not want to have any clash of family values in the future. If the child was going to take the surname Xie, then he or she better be a proper member of the Xie family.

"Since you agree, can we go and take a look at the dragon children from the orphanage?" Xie Jianyu asked.

These children were unfortunate enough to lose their parents at a young age, or they were discarded by cruel, irresponsible parents when they were but mere babies.

"Sure," Zhang Fengxi took a shrimp meatball and fed it to Xie Jianyu. "When?"

Xie Jianyu chewed on the savory meatball and swallowed it before he answered.

"I am thinking in three days. Our dragon clan celebrates the Dragon Awakening Festival in three days. This year, as a married man, I should spend the festival with my new husband.

We have not been blessed with any children, therefore it is proper to invite the children to Fuxi Palace. If there is anyone you like, we can consider adopting the child."

The Dragon Awakening Festival was a homecoming festival. It was the period of time when all dragons were encouraged to go back home to spend some time with their families.

With no parents and no place to call home, the children often missed out on the festivities.

"It is a great idea," Zhang Fengxi applauded Xie Jianyu’s suggestion. "Let’s do that. Hopefully, we will find a child to our liking."

Xie Jianyu flashed Zhang Fengxi a soft smile. He took a napkin and wiped sauce off the corners of Zhang Fengxi’s lips gently.

"Yes," he said. "I hope so."
