Chapter 235: Chapter 235 : Zhang Fengxi’s Mission (5)

The duel took place at the summit of the mountain. The Monkey King chose a rocky spot right by the steepest mountain cliff as the dueling arena.

Zhang Fengxi whistled as he peered down at the endless abyss that awaited the poor person who fell off the edge.

"Impressive," he commented.

The Monkey King flashed him a scary grin.

"Are you interested in taking a look at what’s lying down there?"

"No, thank you," Zhang Fengxi said as he removed the Three Realm Spear from his back. "I am perfectly happy being on top of the mountain."

"Heh."

The Monkey King summoned his magical staff and approached Zhang Fengxi.

"Maybe you will get to see the bottom of it soon," he said in a menacing tone.

The two alpha, one tiger and one monkey, slowly walked in circles. They observed each other’s movement as they maintained a safe distance between them.

The fight was to be fought on fair ground, for one very tiny exception.

The Monkey King knew nothing about Zhang Fengxi, but Zhang Fengxi knew a lot about the Monkey King’s fighting style from the last time they met.

When he was not consumed by any other emotion, that was.

"RAAAAAHHHH!!!"

Zhang Fengxi took in a deep breath. He barely managed to jump out of the way when the Monkey King decided to launch the first attack. His magical staff extended itself without warning and stabbed into the rock Zhang Fengxi stood at just seconds ago.

The huge rock burst into pebbles in an explosive manner.

The attack did not stop right there.

The Monkey King almost seemed possessed. He followed up with more explosive attacks, pushing Zhang Fengxi closer to the edge of the cliff with every bursting rock.

"Ugh!"

When one of his feet threatened to slip off the height, Zhang Fengxi’s gaze swept over the cold, dismal depth that reeked of death.

In between the Monkey King’s attacks, Zhang Fengxi managed to find a loop. He threw himself to the ground and rolled away from the cliff’s edge at the first best opportunity.

Just as Zhang Fengxi was taking a breather on the rocky surface, the Monkey King’s staff stabbed into the rock next to him. The crater that ensued was located just millimeters next to his neck.

Zhang Fengxi jumped to his feet in a hurry and landed some distance away from his opponent.

The Monkey King retracted his staff. It went back to its original length.

The ruler of the monkey clan slowly inhaled while placing his weight on the staff. The end of the metal rod was smoldering red with heat from the continuous hits to the rocky surface, causing some smoke to rise into the air.

"Fengxi, are you alright?"

Xie Jianyu called out from outside of the dueling arena. He was itching to grab his Winter Frost and stop the duel right on the spot.

"I am fine," Zhang Fengxi said in reply.

The Monkey King slowly raised his head and glared at Zhang Fengxi.

"Shameless scoundrel," he spat at Zhang Fengxi.

The harsh address caused both Zhang Fengxi and Xie Jianyu to stare at him in bewilderment. Before they were able to understand the reason for the Monkey King’s unreasonable wrath, the latter started attacking again.

"Damn it," Zhang Fengxi cursed under his breath. This monkey was strong. Stronger than he remembered.

If only he knew what triggered this unusual reaction...

"Monkey King, take control of your emotions!" Zhang Fengxi snapped at him.

The Monkey King did not deign to reply. If anything, his movements became fiercer and faster.

Zhang Fengxi managed to counter every attack from his opponent, but the Monkey King seemed to be constructed out of stones.

He did not get tired at all.

He dished out one powerful hit after another without losing ground.

Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth.

Whatever. He did not suggest having a duel just to beat the Monkey King up. There was something he had to do.

To all spectators’ amazement, Zhang Fengxi leaped off the arena and started sprinting off.

"Wait!!!!" the Monkey King hollered, but Zhang Fengxi kept running.

"You coward!!!"

The Monkey King took off from the arena as well and started chasing after Zhang Fengxi.

Zhang Fengxi ran past the mountain’s steep rough surface and headed in a clear direction.

"Stop!!!" the Monkey King’s scream was heard behind him, followed by a series of explosions that almost blew Zhang Fengxi away.

It did not deter the latter from reaching his destination.

It was around here, he thought.

He found it by chance the last time after the Monkey King died. If he destroyed it, he was going to end this riot for good.

Zhang Fengxi’s eyes widened when he saw it.

An unsuspicious rock that barely protruded above the ground. There was a tiny carving on top of it, barely visible.

Without hesitation, Zhang Fengxi raised his spear high above the ground and stabbed into the carving with all his might. The rock split into two with a loud crack.

Before Zhang Fengxi had time to observe what happened next, the Monkey King caught up to him.

"General Zhang Fengxi!!! What a coward you are!!!"

Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth. Now that he achieved his goal, it was time to deal with this crazy monkey. With a battle cry, Zhang Fengxi turned on his heels and launched at the Monkey King.

The two alphas did not get to determine the winner of the duel, because then the earth under their feet started to rumble before their weapons even met.

"Zhang Fengxi!"

Zhang Fengxi widened his eyes in shock. Xie Jianyu was standing on shaky ground. He was looking around in confusion, not sure what was happening and what to do.

"Jianbao!"

The alpha kicked off the ground and flew toward his wife. With one swift swoop, he circled an arm around Xie Jianyu and dragged him to safety.

Zhang Fengxi was nice enough to turn to the Monkey King and shout, "RUN! THE MOUNTAIN IS CRUMBLING!"
