Chapter 233: Chapter 233 : Zhang Fengxi’s Mission (3)
Crown Prince Xie Jianyu.
Of Fuxi Palace.
All the monkey clan members who were listening to the conversation fell into deep silence.
"The Crown Prince, in this place?" The Monkey King asked without bothering to hide his skepticism.
Xie Jianyu ripped off the jade pendant that hung at his waist and showed it to the Monkey King.
There was no mistaking the roaring dragon sigil that was emblazoned on the pendant.
Only the male heirs of Fuxi Palace had the privilege to carry such jade pendants around.
"..."
The knot at the Monkey King’s throat bobbed up and down nervously.
The Heavenly Empire only ruled over nine clans officially, and the monkey clan had never been allowed to enter the Heavenly Realm.
So technically, the Monkey King did not have to pay Xie Jianyu any respect.
But to have the dragon Crown Prince show up personally at his humble kingdom... during his reign, too!
No other Monkey Kings had ever been honored to this extent.
The Monkey King was deeply moved.
He cleared his throat and schooled his expression back to a stern one. The dignity of the entire monkey clan rested on his shoulders. He must never let himself be swayed by the... the Crown Prince.
"We are honored to receive the both of you. May I know the reason for this sudden visit?"
"Of course, it concerns the riot that you are staging against our empire," Zhang Fengxi replied with the sweetest smile. "This topic is too heavy to discuss while standing around. Monkey King, won’t you be a friendly host and treat us to a meal?"
The Monkey King furrowed his brows. His gaze shifted rapidly between the shameless General Zhang Fengxi whom he did not care for and the Crown Prince Xie Jianyu who he wanted to impress so badly.
He seemed to be greatly reluctant. Zhang Fengxi could almost see gears turning inside the Monkey King’s head. After one final look at Xie Jianyu, the Monkey King finally made a decision.
"Sure," he said. "Welcome to the Monkey Kingdom."
The Monkey King turned on his heels and walked toward the stockade fences.
Zhang Fengxi’s lips curled up in a knowing smile.
The gate of the stockade fences swung open with a loud screeching sound. The Monkey King and his guests thus entered the monkey clan’s territory.
After passing through the defense base, they walked on a single path that led toward the center of Monkey Kingdom.
The Monkey King referred to it as a kingdom, but it resembled a giant village on a mountain more.
The monkeys lived in caves, while the noble house members lived in huts of various sizes.
Both the monkeys and the people that hailed from them were very shy creatures. They hid behind trees, slammed their doors shut, or jumped behind bushes and carts as soon as strangers made their appearance.
And yet, pairs of eyes kept popping up here and there to observe the guests’ movements.
Zhang Fengxi let his eyes wander around the area, capturing every detail he could. As he expected, the monkey clan was suffering from this kind of situation. Good that the Monkey King was gullible enough to unveil his weakness.
This would make everything a lot easier.
The Monkey King lived in a small palace that consisted of several towers. The area it occupied was about a third of Longjing Palace, Zhang Fengxi surmised. Unlike most palaces in the Heavenly Realm which consisted of three stories at most, the Monkey Palace had at least ten stories. Made of a mixture of stone, sand, and wood, the impressive building soared high into the sky.
"Your Majesty," the maids and servants bowed respectfully before the Monkey King every time they walked past him. For once, no one paid Zhang Fengxi or Xie Jianyu any attention.
In the Monkey Mountain where the monkey clan ruled, the Monkey King posed the highest authority. Everyone else, excluding the Heavenly Emperor, did not have much to say.
The Monkey King led his guests to the biggest tower of all, located at the center of the palace.
He then clapped once, and a high-ranking servant came to serve him at once.
"Your Majesty."
"Take care of the soldiers in the entrance hall. Give them food, water, and a place to rest."
"At once, Your Majesty."
The Monkey King then turned to look at Zhang Fengxi and Xie Jianyu.
"I shall host General Zhang Fengxi and the Crown Prince in my humble residence on the third floor. Hopefully, both of you can keep up."
It turned out that the Monkey Palace, despite the many stories that reached up towards the sky, did not have a single staircase. The clan members had to use the thick, sturdy vines that attached themselves to various surfaces of the outer palace walls.
Other than the occasional thorns that poked out of the vines, there was nothing they could step on.
The two men from the Heavenly Realm threw a baffled gaze at the monkey clan members who went up and down with ease. The maids managed to deal with the difficult structures by only relying on one hand to climb up and down. The other hand is used to balance trays of food or drinks or even big baskets full of fruits.
They went in and out of windows with ease, crawling up and down as if they weighed nothing.
As if to demonstrate to them how to climb properly, the Monkey King went ahead of them.
His armor must weigh at least a hundred catties, but he arrived at the third floor in no time. Peering down at his guests who had yet to make a move, he thus asked, "Are you two coming?"
Zhang Fengxi tugged at Xie Jianyu’s hand, but the latter was frozen on the spot.
"Jianbao, what’s wrong?" he asked.
"I can’t climb," Xie Jianyu answered curtly.
The Crown Prince stepped off the ground. Light as a feather, he soared toward the heights. The end of his robe fluttered behind him like wisps of smoke, gentle as the flaps of butterly wings.
The Crown Prince landed just next to the Monkey King, who gallantly held his arm to prevent him from falling off the edge.
The two men, one alpha and one omega, looked into each other’s eyes.
