Chapter 230: Chapter 230 : Whisked Away
After sending all three runaway youngsters back to their families, Xie Jianyu returned to Fuxi Palace.
Ye Penglai came to visit an hour later. The man kowtowed again and again while begging for Xie Jianyu’s forgiveness.
"Your Majesty, I swear on my old life that I will never disappoint you again. I shall make sure to punish all three of them accordingly!"
"No need," Xie Jianyu disagreed.
"All Wen Xiangxiang wanted to do was draw. She ran away because she had a miscommunication within her family."
In fact, "the love of her life" was none other than art.
"As for Duan Ruiyang and Sun Mingqi..."
Xie Jianyu paused to think.
What was the punishment for debauchery between an alpha and an omega?
The lightest penalty was kneeling in front of their ancestral halls for a certain amount of days.
The worst was execution.
Then what if said debauched act happened between two alphas, with no consequences whatsoever?
...
Xie Jianyu rubbed at his aching temples.
"As for the other two... leave it up to their own families to decide for them. We must not meddle."
"Your Majesty is wise! Your Majesty is benevolent!" Ye Penglai kept bumping his head against the wooden floor.
"Alright, that is enough," Xie Jianyu said with a frown. "You may go. I would like to be left alone."
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Even alphas could fall in love with each other, Xie Jianyu mused as he leaned against a lounge chair with a cup of ginger tea in his hands; Mingyu had specifically prepared it for him to dispel the cold.
Youngsters these days.
So daring.
Xie Jianyu put the cup of ginger tea on the table and leaned his head against the chair rest. A soft sigh escaped his lips.
"Mingyu," he called out to the maid who was standing outside of the chamber.
"Yes, Master?" The maid scurried into the room right away.
"Prepare my bedroom," Xie Jianyu said in a nonchalant tone.
"Eh?"
Mingyu was befuddled.
"Prepare how, Your Majesty?"
Xie Jianyu shot her an annoyed look.
"Zhang Fengxi is spending the night here today. Just... make whatever preparation that you need to make."
Mingyu’s eyes grew round and her lips formed a giant O.
"Of course!" she chirped in excitement. "Master, I will get to work now!"
Xie Jianyu wanted to tell her that there was no need to hurry. After all, the sky was still bright. Alas, the beta maid already left the chamber with feathered steps.
"Hmph."
It was not like he cared that much.
That lecher, Zhang Fengxi, deserved to be punished.
The bright blue color of the sky smoothly transitioned into a darker hue. Xie Jianyu had meanwhile left the lounge chair and went into his bedroom.
He was amazed at the room decoration. His usually rather humble bedroom was now painted in mainly red wedding color. The fresh bedsheet was bright red, the quilt on top of the bed was dark pink, and the thin curtain that was rolled and tied onto the top rim of the bed was dark red.
Scented candles were placed at strategic position to illuminate the room without disturbing the activities on the bed.
The fragrance made Xie Jianyu’s nose itch. Drowsiness slowly set in, partly the result of a busy day and partly the effect of the soothing atmosphere inside the bedroom.
Xie Jianyu took a bath before bed. Qingyun drew his bathwater with the perfect temperature -- not too warm and not too cold. She did not forget to scatter flower petals to enhance Xie Jianyu’s bathing experience.
Xie Jianyu took the time to sweep all the petals out of the bathtub before he even climbed in.
The Crown Prince felt refreshed after his evening bath and light dinner, but the newfound energy quickly dissipated when he returned to the bathroom.
In an attempt to fulfill his promise to Zhang Fengxi, Xie Jianyu tried his best to stay awake. And yet, despite the amount of eye-rubbing and warm water that passed through his throat, Xie Jianyu was not above falling asleep.
His head lolled many times to the side. Eventually, he gave in to the creeping exhaustion. The omega thus slumped backward and fell asleep like a log of wood.
Meanwhile, the long-awaited husband, Zhang Fengxi, did not show up until way past midnight.
When he did show up, he brought with him a cloud carriage from Longjing Palace and more than fifty soldiers.
Mingyu and Qingyun too, were already asleep when Zhang Fengxi arrived. The guards alerted them about Zhang Fengxi’s arrival, so they scrambled from the floor and rushed outside to greet the Crown Prince Consort.
Before they even managed to get a full greeting out of their mouth, they were stunned by the unusual entourage that followed the Crown Prince Consort to Fuxi Palace.
"Prince Fengxi, why did you bring all these men here??" Mingyu asked, aghast to see the gloomy mood that enveloped the troops.
Zhang Fengxi sighed.
"Where is your master?" He asked.
"Master is already sleeping. Prince Fengxi, His Majesty is really tired!"
"Don’t worry, I am not going to wake him up."
Zhang Fengxi slid the door open and entered the bedroom without making a sound.
His beloved wife was curled up on the bed, hugging a second pillow to his chest with an innocent look across his face.
The alpha could not help but smile. He gently lifted a strand of Xie Jianyu’s long hair and pressed a kiss against the glossy surface.
"You are so late," Xie Jianyu mumbled in his sleep. His eyelids were so heavy, so he did not open his eyes.
"I know," Zhang Fengxi said. "I am sorry, Jianbao."
"Mmm... what happened?"
Xie Jianyu shifted around and hugged his pillow tighter. Zhang Fengxi chuckled at the adorable sight.
"We can talk about it tomorrow. Sleep for now."
"Mmm..."
"Rest, my baby."
"Mm...."
Zhang Fengxi waited until Xie Jianyu fell asleep again. Once he was sure that the man on the bed already drifted back into the dream world, he carefully slid his arms under Xie Jianyu’s body and lifted him from the bed together with the quilt.
