Chapter 180: Chapter 180 : Heaven And Hell Peak (5)

Zhang Fengxi raised his head and gave Xie Jianyu an expressionless stare.

Worried? His mother?

That was not the last impression he had of his mother when she sent them off.

When he and Commandant Jiang left for the Heaven and Hell Peak, his mother told him in front of the entire palace inhabitants that Zhang Fengxi should not return before he was qualified to sit on the Dragon Throne.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Xie Jianyu asked with confusion.

Zhang Fengxi cleared his throat. He must not be a white-eyed wolf*, he told himself.

"It’s nothing. I was negligent. I will send my mother a letter later."

Zhang Fengxi deftly applied a layer of sauce on top of each skewer with a brush. Once the glazed skewers were put on the makeshift grill, a heavenly smell wafted toward Xie Jianyu. Eyes locked to the slowly cooking skewers, the omega swallowed his saliva in anticipation.

"Here," Zhang Fengxi handed Xie Jianyu a skewer once it was done. "Tell me how it tastes."

Xie Jianyu took the skewer and bit the first piece off hesitantly. As soon as he bit down, sweet juice mixed with mellow fat flowed into his mouth.

It tasted so good that he let out a soft moan.

His hesitation quickly evaporated into thin air.

Before long, Xie Jianyu finished ten skewers at once. He did not usually eat that much, but the skewers were just too delicious.

Zhang Fengxi was in the middle of putting the gutted trouts on sticks when Xie Jianyu popped another question.

"Can’t you go home today? Have you not trained enough?"

"Just a little bit more," Zhang Fengxi said while fanning the flame with the leaf. "It won’t be much longer now. Ack, careful there."

The edge of the leaf caught fire because Zhang Fengxi held it too close to the flame.

He had already mastered Hellfire Hurricane. All he had to do now was train his body to increase his endurance. Only then was he confident enough to show his face in front of Wu Shenxia.

Xie Jianyu’s face took on a conflicted expression when he heard Zhang Fengxi’s answer.

"Do you want the Dragon Throne so badly?" he asked with a trace of disappointment. He did not know why he had such huge expectations from Zhang Fengxi. Just because he broke up with Liu Wenyuan and Xie Jianyu’s real gender was exposed, it did not automatically mean that Zhang Fengxi would pursue him.

Xie Jianyu regretted his foolish self. It was all his wishful thinking. Between him and the Dragon Throne, why would Zhang Fengxi choose him? No one would. He was too arrogant, and overconfident...

"No," Zhang Fengxi said meekly in reply. "It is not about the Dragon Throne."

To be precise, what he wanted out of the competition was the right to pursue Xie Jianyu. Alas, he was unable to lend voice to his thought.

It would be irresponsible to say those words, because he did not know what to make of his feelings toward Xie Jianyu.

During the past two months, or even longer than that, Zhang Fengxi thought about Xie Jianyu at every opportunity.

Sure, he was attracted to Xie Jianyu physically. He was addicted to the taste of Xie Jianyu’s lips and the feel of Xie Jianyu’s body against his own. Xie Jianyu was the one he thought about when he satisfied himself on lonely nights.

He often dreamed about desecrating Xie Jianyu’s body, taking his innocence again and again until the sun replaced the moon in the sky.

It was almost sinful to desire the Crown Prince that way.

After getting involved with Xie Jianyu on many occasions, Zhang Fengxi also learned to appreciate the omega’s bravery, strength, and kindred spirit.

Xie Jianyu never whined in the face of adversity.

He was the alpha son that all parents dreamed of having.

Zhang Zhiyuan would not stop comparing his own son to Xie Jianyu.

Xie Jianyu was the first to volunteer when something had to be done, and the last to pick the fruit of his efforts.

Xie Jianyu was a magnificent individual, an excellent example for his peers, and the best Crown Prince that the Heavenly Realm could get in a thousand years.

Yes.

Yes, Zhang Fengxi knew that all by now.

And yet, despite all that, none of those had anything to do with love.

Love was what he used to feel for Liu Wenyuan.

He knew that he liked gentle, soft-spoken omegas with a sweet and agreeable personality. Xie Jianyu was the opposite of what he liked. Xie Jianyu was just... Xie Jianyu. Had Xie Jianyu been an alpha, he would make a great sworn brother.

Sigh.

The more Zhang Fengxi thought about it, the more painfully his head throbbed.

If Xie Jianyu was not his type and he did not harbor any love for Xie Jianyu, then why did he even bother to lie to his parents?

Why did he insist on competing with other alphas for Xie Jianyu’s hand?

Why was he unable to let go of Xie Jianyu?

It drove him insane whenever he imagined Xie Jianyu marrying anyone, or even giving birth to another alpha’s child.

Heck, he even hated alphas who looked at Xie Jianyu one second too long. He almost tore Zhou Guiying to shreds because he dared to sully Xie Jianyu’s hand with his lips.

Xie Jianyu was his.

...

But, his what?

Unaware of the conflicting thoughts in Zhang Fengxi’s head, Xie Jianyu pushed for an answer.

"If not the Dragon Throne, then what?"

Unfortunately, a helpless smile was all Zhang Fengxi had for now.

"I get it," Xie Jianyu said, his eyes gleaming with a newfound determination.

No matter how hard you train, I will train harder. You are the only one I cannot afford to lose against.

Xie Jianyu rose to his feet.

"I should go. Thank you for the meal." He no longer had an appetite for anything.

"Xie Jianyu."

Xie Jianyu did not stop to listen to what Zhang Fengxi had to say.

As he sat alone in front of the bright campfire, Zhang Fengxi closed his eyes and whispered to himself, "Give me time."

"Xie Jianyu, I will give you my answer in due time."
