Chapter 21: I am not sure if I could call this a happy ending or a sad one. ( ˘ ³˘)♥
"Babe," she whispered, her voice barely holding steady, "I believe you."
When he looked at her, he noticed it...her eyes were slightly watery. Not from anger...
"Babe, I just... hate the feeling of being alone... without you beside me," she exclaimed, looking downwards, playing with her shoes on the ground...
Leo gently patted her on the head, offering a small smile, but just seconds later, his expression changed...
(Ring... Ring...)
The sudden vibration broke their moment...
He reached into his pocket with his left hand and pulled out his phone, glancing at the screen light.
He instantly furrowed his brows. "Babe, it’s... my uncle."
Sarah tilted her head to the side. "This late?"
Leo nodded slowly, already feeling a weight in his chest. "Yeah. He never calls this late unless it’s something serious."

Leo picked up the call and held the phone close to his ear...
"Hello, Uncle Tanaka?"
There was a brief pause on the other end of the call, then his uncle’s voice came through, low and uneasy.
"Leo... where are you right now?"
His stomach tightened as he listened. Something wasn’t right. "I’m outside, I just finished my part-time job. Why? What’s going on?"
Sarah looked at him with wide, concerned eyes.
His uncle hesitated for a few seconds, clearing his throat, then he spoke up. "Leo... how would you like to work as a game developer?"
Leo blinked in confusion and disbelief. "Wait... what?"
His uncle chuckled softly over the phone. "I’m serious. One of my friends runs a small game studio. And they happen to be looking for someone young, creative... so I instantly thought of you and how much you love video games."
Leo looked down at his phone, then back up, his eyes watery. "Uncle... is it real?"
"Nephew, it’s real," his uncle responded instantly, countering his claim. "You’d be starting out small, but it’s a foot in the door. If you’re interested, I can set up a meeting."
For a moment, Leo just stood there, stunned.
"Wait... are you serious? Like, serious serious?" he asked again, his voice rising with excitement, so much he could barely breathe...
His uncle laughed loudly on the other end of the call. "Leo, my nephew, I told you, I wouldn’t be calling this late if I wasn’t serious."
Leo turned to Sarah, barely able to hold back a grin, sweat dripping down his face. "Babe, did you hear that? A game developer. Me!"
Sarah’s face broke into a wide smile as she clapped her hands together. "Leo, that’s amazing!"
He started pacing in small circles repeatedly, running a hand through his hair. "Oh my god, this is crazy... This is everything I’ve wanted. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a kid."
Sarah reached for his hand, pulling him close. "Babe, then go for it. You’ve earned it."
Leo leaned on Sarah’s shoulder, his heart pounding like a Bluetooth speaker in his chest. He didn’t say anything at first; he just let the moment settle, his thoughts racing faster than he could keep up with...
For the first time in a long while, the future didn’t feel scary or uncertain for him...
It felt wide open, explorable, and achievable.
And more than that, it finally looked like something worth chasing and looking forward to...
Sarah rested her head gently against his as they both stood in the parking lot of the mall, her hand slipping into his.
"Babe, I’m so proud of you," she whispered, her presence played a huge role in today’s activities...
Leo smiled, closing his eyes for a moment, breathing slowly. "Thank you... for being here."
Sarah gently patted the back of his head, a soft and warm smile on her pink lips.
But before Leo could say anything else...
"Oi, Leo, you little shit!" his uncle’s voice suddenly shouted through the phone, loud and clear. "Don’t leave me hanging while you’re out there flirting!"
Leo jolted upright from Sarah’s shoulder, eyes wide as he quickly brought the phone back to his ear. "S-Sorry! I was...uh... I’m back!"
Sarah burst into laughter, covering her mouth with her hands...
His uncle huffed lowly. "Yeah, yeah. Call me tomorrow, and I’ll get things moving... Don’t make me regret giving you this chance."
"I won’t! I promise!" Leo said quickly, still flustered and excited.

The call ended in his shaking hands...
Leo let out a heavy breath, then turned towards Sarah with a bright smile. Without thinking twice, he rushed forward, kissed her on the cheek, and carried her up into his arms.
"I can’t believe this is happening!" he laughed, spinning her around gently.
Sarah giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Babe, you’re going to drop me... baka!"
Leo laughed while spinning with her in his arms. "Babe, I’d never drop you. You’re my good luck charm." Then, without any hesitation, he added softly, "I love you."
Sarah’s breath caught in her throat.
The moment those words left his mouth, her face turned bright red. Her eyes widened just a little, and her grip on him tightened...
She looked at him, stunned at first, but then, slowly, a shy and cute smile spread across her lips.
"I... I wasn’t ready for that," she whispered, holding him closer, her voice was barely above a breath...
Leo stopped spinning around, gently setting her down on her feet, but keeping his arms around her waist. "I meant it, every single word."
Sarah looked up at him, her cheeks still flushed red. "Then say it again."
He leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. "I love you."
This time, she didn’t just smile. She closed the gap between them with a kiss...
(Beep beep...)
The honk from Sarah’s tour bus echoed through the mall’s parking lot...
Her smile faded instantly. She wrapped her arms around Leo tightly. "Babe... I don’t want to go yet. We haven’t had enough time, I don’t want to spend another five days without seeing you."
Leo gently patted her head, then cupped her cheek, looking into her eyes. "Babe, I understand... but you have to." He paused and started grinning. "And also, remember you still owe me for that One Piece hat you bought... with my credit card, thief."
Sarah narrowed her eyes, pulling back. "Leo, no, baka... baka."
She turned and stormed off toward the bus, pretending to be mad...
Leo burst out laughing and jogged after her. "Babe, I was joking! Come back!"
Sarah didn’t turn around, but he could see the smile on her face...
Leo knew this was one of the only ways he could get her to leave with a smile. Opportunities like her movie role were rare, especially in times like these...
He stopped and stood there, watching her climb onto the tour bus, a strange mix of pride and longing filling his chest...
He was happy for her... really, he was. But that didn’t stop the ache of knowing she’d be gone for the next five days again...
"She’s chasing her dreams," he thought internally, his hands stuffed in his pockets. "I just hope I’m still part of them when she catches them."
The bus door closed with a soft click. She waved from the window, and he smiled back...wide, sincere, and just a little lovesick.
(Beep beep...)
Leo reached into his pocket, fishing out his phone. He glanced at the screen and frowned at the bright light. "A text... from my uncle," he thought internally...
He opened it...
"95 Shibuya Road. Don’t be late... next week, Tuesday. 9 a.m. sharp. And wear something that doesn’t scream I’m jobless."
Leo smiled with his hands on his head and started walking home... "God, this old man."
