Chapter 124: Chapter 81: Subduing the Adorable Little White Jiao

Over in Ge Village, there was complete chaos. San Gouzi rushed into the crumbling house, trying to persuade Granny Bai, who was still searching through the rubble. Granny Zhao’s house was a wooden building from decades ago. The broken wooden planks, after being battered by the strong winds, were shattered and torn apart. Fortunately, the wood was light and didn’t cause any harm even when falling on people.

"San Gouzi, you mind your own business," Granny Zhao cried out. The old house that had accompanied her for decades collapsed in the storm. Her spouse gone, her house gone, and this damn rain buried even the last of her coffin savings.

"Granny, everyone from the village is heading up the mountain, your rice will also be sent up there soon. Our village has Mr. Zhu, the village chief, and we have fertile rice fields. Life will be as prosperous as the Chili," San Gouzi anxiously lifted Granny Zhao onto his back and started pulling her out.

"Rice, oh, my rice," Granny Zhao, who had just now been limp in the rubble refusing to move, sprang to action with alarmingly agile movements. She grabbed the rice that had been blocked by a wooden board, making movements so spry that even San Gouzi felt incompetent, "What are you stunned for? Back in the day, Granny used to carry a hundred jin of grain up and down the mountains when even your mother wasn’t born yet."

The village chief, holding Sister-in-law Wangcai’s young daughter, hurried the women and children of the village up the mountain road. The rain was outrageously heavy as if heaven had sprung a leak. In just over twenty minutes, water had flooded into the village. Although the tiled houses were sturdy, the ground they were built on wasn’t elevated. Many had to forcefully open their doors, while a few villagers put on their raincoats and moved towards the mountain.

"Where is the Qian family?" The village chief looked around but couldn’t find Qian Yongfu and Wang Chunhua. Their house was on higher ground, but even that couldn’t withstand such extensive flooding.

"Quick, pack up all the valuable gold and jewelry, as well as over a thousand yuan in fertilizer money. With such heavy rain, I’m afraid the village might be washed away. Let’s take all the valuables while things haven’t descended into chaos, in case those who like cheap deals make off with them," Qian Yongfu and Wang Chunhua were packing up in the house, shamelessly grumbling without realizing that in the whole village, they were the ones most notorious for loving a bargain.

Qian Yongfu couldn’t stop glancing outside, watching as the villagers pushed their farm carts up the mountain, transporting rice in batches. "Those idiots, if the rice gets soaked, the grain station won’t accept it. Thank goodness I didn’t get caught up in the frenzy with them at the time."

Once the couple finished packing, they ran out of the bedroom only to hear a noise from the roof.

"Old man!" The gap that had been patched before on the Qian family’s roof beam collapsed again, and a crossbeam fell, striking Secretary Qian directly in the back. Wang Chunhua’s cries alarmed the villagers outside.

Some villagers, still with a bit of strength, cleared a cart, tugging and dragging Secretary Qian onto it. Wang Chunhua, sobbing, didn’t forget to clutch her hen that was laying eggs as they all made their way up the mountain in the storm.

Halfway up the hill, a villager carrying a lantern stopped, all around was pitch black, the sound of wind and rain had disappeared altogether, the sky had no trace of light, and the entire mountain was eerily silent, as if the whole village, including Ge Village, was encapsulated within a giant pot.

All Xiao Xian could hear was the wind in her ears, feel the rain on her skin; she had already tumbled several times, numb to the pain. All she knew at that moment was that she needed to hurry to the Dragon Tree. In her dozen years of living, she had never felt such urgency as she did today.

"Master, Grandpa," Xiao Xian choked on some water, scrambling on all fours, calling the names of her two elders as if doing so could endow her with endless strength. The green glow on her body grew brighter, blocking branches and trees automatically cleared a path for her. She was only a few steps from the Dragon Juniper.

A peculiar wind whisked up several giant rocks. Xiao Xian crawled on the ground, rolling on the spot, leaning against the stump of the Dragon Tree, barely catching her breath. The thin air around made it suffocating to breathe; the clouds kept pressing down on the mountain, and the dragon’s open maw in the sky, still gaping, the part of Ge Village had already been swallowed by the cloud formation, resembling both cloud and dragon.

The dragon-shaped strange cloud pressed lower, about to engulf Xiao Xian in a blink.

"Little girl, get out of the way quickly," a kaleidoscopically patterned python emerged from the pond, its voice belonging to the Red Locust Great Wizard. A white Water Jiao burst out from the cloud shaped like a dragon, its head topped with a newly grown steel horn.
