Chapter 301: Chapter 301 Succession
Yang Peimin certainly didn’t know that idle gossip about her was starting to circulate back in her hometown.
Her belly was already three months along; accompanied by Shen Yiguang, she returned to the hospital for a follow-up examination.
The doctor was very pleased with her recovery, "Not bad, your nutrition intake is keeping up. Just follow the previous method—eat small, frequent meals, don’t exert yourself too much, and you can move around a bit."
The young couple agreed to everything.
After leaving the hospital, Yang Peimin still had to return to school for classes.
Shen Yiguang drove her; it wasn’t that cold then.
It had snowed heavily the night before, and the morning classes were rescheduled to the afternoon while the school organized the students to shovel snow.
Yang Peimin also actively responded to the school’s call by volunteering her husband for the task.
Sitting in the passenger seat, looking at the man next to her dressed in a military coat and cap, she said, "At that time, one class will be responsible for one area, I’ll come over to cheer you on."
Shen Yiguang glanced at her "You go back and stay in the dorm."
Everyone was in the dormitory, getting ready to go out and shovel snow by dressing warmly.
Cotton-padded jackets, pants, scarves, and hats were essential items.
The atmosphere was chaotic, "Hey, does anyone have gloves? What do we do if we don’t have any?"
"I didn’t think it would be this cold before coming here from my hometown; even though I knew it could snow, I didn’t bring many clothes with me, just these two sets. Yesterday, when I was exiting the cafeteria, a chunk of snow from a tree fell on my head, and not only did I get cold, but it also wet my outer cotton jacket. Now I have no clothes to wear," that was Cheng Aihua’s voice.
"Then wear a couple more sweaters underneath, isn’t that how we’ve always gotten through the winters?"
"Exactly, there’s nothing else we can do. My cotton shoes are also wet; if these get wet today, I’ll have to go to class with frozen feet."
Listening to this discussion, Yang Peimin also felt that it had been too cold these past few days; it really wasn’t suitable to go out.
Now when she left the house, she was dressed like a ball, not caring about looking good but only about staying warm. Underneath, she wore two sweaters, a cotton coat, and an overcoat, plus a scarf, hat, gloves, thick cotton pants, two pairs of socks, and leather shoes.
With this outfit, anyone who saw her would think she looked extremely warm.
"Peimin, why did you come back today, too? Don’t tell me you want to join in?"
"Aiyo, you better not go. You’ve got a child in your belly. If you bump into something or get hit, that would be terrible."
"Sanni isn’t going either; the teacher knows about her condition."
Peimin smiled, "I’m not going. I came back to take a couple of books to read in the classroom." She no longer lived in the dormitory; her bed was cleared out, and now she only kept some books there. If Shen Yiguang couldn’t come to pick her up, she would take the public bus to their rented place. Carrying all the books wasn’t feasible, so she had left them in the dormitory. The reason she didn’t keep them in the classroom was that some classes were mixed with other departments; the seat she sat in wasn’t always hers.
"Look, being pregnant does have its perks; at least you don’t have to go out in this cold," Tan Yan said with a teasing laugh as she shook out two cotton jackets. She planned to wear both later. It would solve the issue of upper body warmth, but the lower body wasn’t ideal. She had been wearing this thick pair of trousers for five days. It wasn’t that she had no other trousers to wear, but only this pair, made of new cotton during her wedding, was sufficiently windproof for the current weather. Yet, now the bottom of these pants was wet from knee to ankle; she had accidentally spilled mouthwash on them this morning. She was debating whether to wear a different pair or maybe even double up, which was bothersome. Then she saw Yang Peimin come in dressed warmly and even wearing wool gloves and hats...
Yang Peimin heard a hint of sourness in her words, perhaps a bit of dissatisfaction with her leisurely status not needing to go out, but it was not without reason, as her husband had come over, "Luckily, my husband has the day off today, so I got him to take over for me."
Her husband taking over for her – what could Tan Yan say to that?
Tan Yan laughed again with a "He He," "Your man is really reliable."
"That’s right, he doesn’t want me to be talked about," Yang Peimin didn’t hesitate to praise her husband’s merits.
After she finished speaking, most of the people in the dormitory looked at her, surprised; they had never heard of someone bringing their husband over to participate in a school event.
But after the surprise, many were left envying.
Liu Yilan snorted, "What’s there to show off about marrying a soldier? Only a soldier would come over for such a thing."
Tan Yan laughed again, though this time, the laughter seemed a bit embarrassed.
"Wow, he really came. I want to see this. You’re fortunate to marry a soldier; they really cherish their wives," Guo Caixia joked as she joined in.
Yang Peimin turned around to banter with her. Seeing her daughter Xiao Lian staring wide-eyed at her, Yang Peimin handed her a few pieces of milk candy from her pocket. She had always liked children, and now because of her pregnancy, even more so.
Guo Caixia tried to stop her, "You spoil her too much with candy every time; you keep some for yourself. You need more now than before; you get hungry easily. It’s good to eat a couple before school lets out."
Yang Peimin ignored her advice, handing the candy directly to Xiao Lian, "I still have more. This is for Xiao Lian, not for you. Why are you stopping me?"
Guo Caixia looked at her helplessly, then patted Xiao Lian’s head, "Aren’t you going to thank Auntie?"
Xiao Lian timidly called out in thanks, then hid behind her mother. Xiao Lian was exceptionally introverted and shy. Despite living with Guo Caixia and the others in the dormitory for three to four months, Xiao Lian was still not very daring to talk to those like Yang Peimin who usually played with her.
Seeing her daughter like this, Guo Caixia couldn’t help but sigh, "I don’t know what’s with this child. Her dad and I aren’t timid or quiet people at all. She’s always so sullen."
Hearing this, Yang Peimin was somewhat speechless. How outgoing can a child who is locked up in a dormitory all day be? It was already good she was willing to talk. So she couldn’t help but say, "Xiao Lian stays with you, without children to play with, and her dad isn’t here either. It’s natural for her to be shy."
Guo Caixia’s expression darkened somewhat, "It’s a situation without a solution. The last time I took her home, her dad was there, too. With the weather like this, there’s not much to do, and he could have helped take care of Xiao Lian. My mother-in-law flatly refused, and then seeing his mom making a fuss, he didn’t dare agree... it’s as if she’s only my child..."
