Chapter 990: Chapter 783 Trial Operation Day 1_2
Now they’ve been pieced together, packed tightly, wrapped in plastic film, and have become boxed meals supplied by Nestor Corporation, all stamped with the company’s logo and the enormous words "FREE" on them.
There really is such a thing as a free lunch!
The construction workers summoned from other regions still grumbled a bit in the morning, but by noon, upon realizing meals were provided, their mood had noticeably improved.
Many even ate while crying.
More and more people began to cry; a decent lunchtime transformed into a place of tears.
They’d finally eaten their fill—finally, a full meal.
Han Zhikui couldn’t help but wipe away his tears, which trickled into his rice.
He cherished the hard-won food and carefully scraped clean the bottom of his lunch box.
The North Silla people had aspired to break free from Modern Entertainment Company’s control fifteen years ago.
After a fight that lasted fifteen years, the people here had finally tasted a hot meal.
In the afternoon, while working, Han Zhikui clearly noticed his coworkers’ morale had greatly improved.
It was like a car refilled with fuel, roaring forward as soon as you hit the gas.
Labor, labor!
Han Zhikui guessed that everyone at the construction site was just like him; today marked the first time they’d enjoyed a proper lunch. Previously, they survived on paste and wild vegetables, pickling anything edible in kimchi jars to make do.
Allegedly, some system or major plan had orchestrated everything so that there were no arrogant bullies to beat people up anymore, and no one monopolizing resource distribution or taking bribes. Han Zhikui silently pondered.
Could good days truly be here?
The dazed and lifeless walking corpses were now reclaiming their dignity.
Han Zhikui was a skilled worker, capable of operating a variety of heavy machinery.
He operated large engineering machines to participate in construction, assembling the structure for the Heat Tower, watching from the cockpit as other workers swarmed up and down like ants.
By five in the afternoon, the first heating module was finally completed. Its appearance resembled a metallic porcupine connected to countless cables and pipes.
"Finally, it’s finished..."
"Look quickly!"
"It wasn’t easy!"
Han Zhikui and other workers eagerly headed over for inspection. Coal had already been delivered—though North Silla lacked almost everything, coal was plentiful. Machines hoisted the coal into the power generation combustion chamber to initiate trial operations.
The night-shift construction workers switched over, marking the end of daytime work.
Han Zhikui calculated that he’d worked from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with an hour for rest, and food provided—where else could such favorable conditions exist?
Even if they didn’t pay him wages, he’d still be satisfied.
Unexpectedly, the construction site did pay wages!
He lined up with his coworkers, swiping his card on the machine.
A bright and glaring number "400" popped up.
400!
wages in one day—Han Zhikui was stunned, his eyes almost welling up from the acute sensation.
He inspected his ragged work card, wondering if this old cash card had gone faulty. But judging by the shock on his coworkers’ faces, it was precisely this much.
How could there be so much money?
In the past, they either didn’t pay anything, expecting workers to "contribute selflessly," or paid a measly 20 as a token gesture.
But... 400!
Real wages—they were really paying wages! His labor actually held such value!
The people behind prodded Han Zhikui to move along, and trembling, he took the money and headed out.
He hadn’t seen real funds like this in ages; he suddenly forgot how to spend or use money.
His back no longer ached, and his sweat no longer felt burdensome.
Though his uncertainty made him shiver, he thought back to North Silla’s founding promises made to its citizens.
"Hard work leads to wealth."
"Those who work shall earn."
He turned to look at the Heat Tower, which had started to take shape, along with the large construction sites scattered across Xin City. His heart surged with emotion.
Under the guidance of the grand plan, the North Silla people labored diligently, without obstacles, as the system distributed their rightful shares to them.
Han Zhikui visited a famous import shop in Xin City, a store dedicated to importing goods from overseas companies worldwide. For the North Silla people, it was akin to a treasure trove, its shelves stocked with impressive items.
Ordinarily, the store was quiet, with only high-ranking officials under Yin Changmin occasionally sending people to shop.
Han Zhikui still remembered those luxury vehicles parked at the entrance, symbols of wealth unimaginable to common people.
But now, the import shop had a long queue, filled with simply dressed workers buying overseas goods made by entrepreneurs to bring home. Most purchases were essential electrical appliances like phones and televisions.
He glanced at the sign posted by the entrance reading "Ample Goods, Please Avoid Panic Buying," shook his head, and decided to return another day to line up.
Instead, he opted to head to Xin City’s small market to buy two new sweaters for his family.
Walking along the street, Han Zhikui reflected on the current state of the North Silla labor uprising.
First came the nationwide announcement of Yin Changmin’s downfall, followed by Chairman Cui Taining’s appointment, and now a "new system" coordinating everyone’s lives so they didn’t have to fear being mistreated. What else awaited everyone, Han Zhikui pondered.
A generation’s bloodshed and sacrifices had finally liberated half of Silla from Modern Entertainment Company’s oppression, and now appeared to be the time to reap the rewards of their struggle.
But they had waited so long... waited so long to see this day arrive.
Why hadn’t this day come sooner?
Why?
...
Xu Yang and other staff monitored the operation of the Qiongting System from the backend.
Under its guidance, people were slotted like pieces of a puzzle into the "grand plan."
Construction workers, drivers, technicians, maintenance personnel, and engineers responded to the North Silla central command, uniting to rebuild Xin City.
Resources also continuously poured in; the system’s calculations revealed many errors that needed manual verification—mostly caused by the corruption or incompetence of previous data collectors—and still required further improvement.
Nonetheless, after just a few days of operation, the Heat Tower swiftly rose, converting coal into electricity, and directing leftover heat from the power stations to supply heating to the people, ensuring warmth throughout Xin City and its surrounding regions!
Heating flowed into thousands of households—a reassuring and significant achievement.
"The potential of the Qiongting System has already been proven," Chief Engineer Park Yongchul reported during a meeting attended by senior members of the Silla Temporary Transition Committee.
"The reality is that, under the control of AI and terminal systems, this system can efficiently allocate resources based on project needs, eliminating corruption, embezzlement, and misappropriation, and improving resource distribution efficiency by a factor of ten. The decisions made by Venus AI are not only swift but effective, smoothly directing the progression of work." Park Yongchul reported.
"Moreover, the Qiongting System’s allocations are inherently fair; it carries no favoritism or bias, distributing accessible resources fairly among the people, thus promoting greater societal equality. This aligns with principles outlined in our classical treatises..." Park Yongchul continued, citing theories to emphasize the pioneering nature of the project.
After the meeting, Park Yongchul returned to Xu Yang’s office.
"Commissioner Xu, the representatives appear very satisfied—perhaps launching it fully across North Silla is imminent," Park Yongchul said, unable to hide the excitement in his tone.
Xu Yang felt it was acceptable, considering the small scale of North Silla, coupled with Nestor Corporation’s external support maintaining harmony—if AI couldn’t handle such scope, then there was no future to look forward to.
"What flaws do you notice?" Xu Yang asked.
"It depends heavily on external inputs and subsidies, such as materials and robots supported by Nestor Corporation."
"Overall, it’s still useful."
"Indeed, North Silla lacks competent personnel, so we’re relying on the Qiongting System for production and allocation. The benefit lies in Venus AI’s absolute impartiality—it doesn’t even have parents."
"But its designers, that is, us, retain the authority to shut it down, even though we cannot modify it. Its operation also hinges on the authorization granted by ordinary governance personnel, such as today’s representatives and Chairman Cui Taining." Xu Yang commented.
"Then the system should... surpass them, ensuring they can’t manipulate it," Park Yongchul said vehemently.
The Qiongting System represented his brainchild, and he wouldn’t tolerate any official shutting it down for some new strategy.
"We’ll discuss this later," Xu Yang replied. "Meanwhile, there are some documents I’d like you to review."
"What are they?" Park Yongchul asked, flipping through the papers.
"They’re about executing Yin Changmin," Xu Yang said. "Do you want to witness the sentencing?"
