Cyber Era Witch -
Chapter 896 - 724: After the Destruction of the City
Chapter 896: Chapter 724: After the Destruction of the City
The earthquake, tsunami, shockwave, and roaring sound continued for at least a minute before slowly ceasing, followed by an endless echo of eerie whispers and wails.
The robot inhabited by the Cyber Specter was struck by dark wind and immediately stamped with dust on its back.
Zanges was destroyed.
The sea surged with a wave over 300 meters high, slamming heavily onto the scorching remains of Zanges, rapidly cooling it with a tremendously shrill screech, like the weeping of millions.
The Cyber Specter covered the Tsuchigumo as they retreated, carrying her back while also glancing at the bombarded ruins of Zanges.
The remains of the city were scalding hot, the air distorted by the high temperature, making everything in sight seem as if shrouded in a mirage. From a distance, the entirety of Zanges appeared compressed into a flat, gray two-dimensional shape, horrifying and monotonous.
It was twisted like a sheet of tin foil, like the surface of the Moon, silent, rigid, and stagnant, covered with craters of varying sizes that testified to the irregularity of destruction.
The impact brought an instantaneous overpressure, pulverizing all materials and substance, without any structure left protruding above ground. They left behind mounds resembling silicon dioxide ash – the cremains of Zanges.
In the distance, the ocean had been boiled, steaming red and pink clouds into the sky, reflecting four rainbows aloft.
After the displacement of the water, a very low wave trough remained, resembling a funnel. The surrounding seawater filled it very slowly, as if even the sea was immersed in the shock and couldn’t extricate itself.
The devastation of Zanges was so complete that people would rather forget it ever existed.
"Ah—" Tsuchigumo cried out in a low voice, high and low, "Ah..."
The Cyber Specter dragged her back to the mobile camp a kilometer away.
After several unsuccessful attempts, the witches summoned a doppelgänger of Farosa. With an inscrutable look on her face, Farosa used the Law of Recovery on Tsuchigumo, reversing her burst capillaries and damaged lenses.
Farosa then left the camp in person, ascended a hill, and gazed at the destroyed Zanges with the Cyber Specter standing by her side.
"How does that power compare to yours?" the Cyber Specter asked.
"I wouldn’t say I can’t do such a thing. I am merely very impressed; it’s their first time projecting such a scale of weaponry to the planet’s surface," Farosa said, expressionlessly interlocking her fingers.
"They succeeded in launching the Destiny Weapon. It’s more intimidating than nuclear arms, cannot be intercepted, and its presence on the launchpad poses the greatest threat, quickly compelling other forces to take sides. Starting with the annihilation of the city of sin, the form of the game has evolved to a higher level, and no one dares to cross the line or summon the Fury of Destiny," the Cyber Specter said.
"I am not allowed to interfere with the cosmos, but they have become agents of the cosmos, which is utterly detestable," Farosa said, squinting as she looked up into the sky.
"Such damage is difficult to recover from."
"It is possible, but I must bring forth my true self from the Northern Archipelago and descend upon this place, using 70% of my Power to restore the city’s facade. Apart from leaving myself vulnerable to others’ attacks, what do I gain?" Farosa’s gaze returned to the gray ruins before her.
Following that, she was silent for about 10 seconds, as if scanning and discerning the ash-covered city before her.
Everything was destroyed, leaving behind only an inexplicable fear as if such a natural disaster would next befall something one treasured deeply.
This is the world-ending strategic weapon controlled by the Seven Seals, code-named "Destiny," an unknown energy cluster launched from the orbital path, and the annihilation of Zanges took place in mere seconds.
"It’s time to go back," Farosa returned to the mobile camp.
Near this humble tent, the Evil Spirit Namahage was feeding the horses, Tsuchigumo rubbed her phantom-aching forehead, and Ichinoki Ikuma was organizing her sniper rifle.
"So, you’ve summoned me to save your companion?" Farosa looked at the three witches.
"Yes, we beseech the Power of the Witch Goddess. Please, save Izumi Makoto for us!" Tsuchigumo prostrated on the ground, paying homage to Farosa in a gesture of utmost respect.
"She’s currently at Empress Easter’s camp," the Evil Spirit Namahage said calmly, "Our president has been protecting her all along, preventing her from being taken away."
"I can help you. After the deed is done, Renwang Security works for me for ten years," Farosa said.
"We need to consult with our president..." the Evil Spirit Namahage said nervously.
Upon hearing this, Tsuchigumo’s heart also tightened.
Selling the freedom of Renwang Security Company to the Witch Goddess for ten years to secure the freedom of Izumi Makoto – the price was too steep.
The Evil Spirit Namahage established communication with Standing Black Hat in the camp to seek the president’s opinion.
After a brief exchange with the president, the Evil Spirit Namahage nodded at Farosa.
"...Our president agreed without hesitation," the Evil Spirit Namahage said.
"Do not doubt, it is completely fair. Izumi Makoto’s nature is that of an Angel, a supernatural being who escaped from the evil goddess. Her life is invaluable. And I cannot simply redeem Izumi Makoto without due cost," Farosa said indifferently.
"Redeem? I thought we were going to fight..." Tsuchigumo said weakly.
"An armed Empress could crush you into the ruins of Zanges and you’d never emerge. I don’t wish to see my followers reduced to ash," Farosa stood up and headed towards Empress Easter’s camp.
They all proceeded towards the refugee camp.
The people there had already started moving, heading towards the ruined Zanges to see for themselves what had happened and why such an uproar occurred.
Farosa stood on the adjacent gray mound.
The air around seemed to grow colder as she caught sight of Empress Easter in the crowd and Easter saw her in return.
In almost two strides she crossed hundreds of meters of distance, and Empress Easter approached Farosa.
"Hi! Hello! Nice to see you again." Empress Easter greeted Farosa.
"I want to see Xylophia." Farosa leaned slightly forward.
"She’s not here right now," Easter said.
"Talk about something with a higher information density."
"Join the Seven Seals and you can see her anytime... Reuniting with an ancient friend and spending days together would suit you well, wouldn’t it?" Easter reached out to invite Farosa to join.
"Zanges killed 6,750,000 people in one attack, with no survivors," Farosa said.
"I warned them, I warned them! But they didn’t want to leave. They didn’t want to learn how to love themselves, to love others." Easter’s eyes reddened with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"This is also a weapon of the Seven Seals, don’t you feel anything?" Farosa asked.
"As long as the people of Zanges stop their evil deeds, sign the contract, the disaster won’t happen. Why won’t they save themselves?" Easter lamented.
"In the future, you will hang this weapon over any city, forcing the inhabitants to surrender," Farosa said.
"The launch of the Destiny Weapon requires a unanimous agreement, so it only targets those who are anti-human, anti-social, and anti-civilization. If you haven’t done anything wrong, what’s there to be afraid of?" Easter said.
"...Forget it. Hand over Yizhen Tian to me." Farosa glanced sideways at Angel Izumi Makoto, who was nailed to the cross in the camp.
After a week of torment, the body left on the cross was just a mutilated being, almost devoid of legs.
"She ran away from the Empress Dilnai, but she has to return home, otherwise it won’t do. Let her stay with me. I won’t let her die, one day she’ll change her mind!" Easter said eagerly.
"I have important intelligence to share with you, enough to be worth this angel’s life," Farosa said ominously.
"You’re the notoriously cruel and unscrupulous Ancient Witch. If I handed her over to you, I can’t fathom how you would torture her," Easter said sadly.
"I won’t waste words with her, and the intelligence I offer can save the future of a group of witches. Trade with me," Farosa said.
"Well, then let’s hear it," Easter stepped forward.
Farosa whispered something in Easter’s ear.
Hearing the secret Farosa conveyed, Easter’s expression changed subtly as she nodded.
"...I understand, I’ll go right away," Easter agreed.
"Then, Yizhen Tian," Farosa raised her eyebrows.
"...I’ll turn her over to you, but be careful, Dilnai will hate you even more," Easter turned and left.
"Is the hatred between me and Dilnai really just over this angel..." Farosa muttered to herself.
She went to the camp and took Yizhen Tian down from the cross.
The maimed Yizhen Tian was like a piece of rotten flesh stripped of all joints, the feathers all decayed, leaving only fragments clinging to the white bones.
"This must be... the Witch Goddess," Standing Black Hat said anxiously, walking towards Farosa.
"Calm down, my children," Farosa said coldly, as she laid a hand on Yizhen Tian’s forehead.
In an instant, Standing Black Hat felt as if everything sunk into thick blood, and then Yizhen Tian’s wounds disappeared in a flash!
Flesh and bones restored, torso regenerated, and feathers grew back from nothingness, reappearing in the world.
"Oh... Ah..." Yizhen Tian moaned softly, "My head... it feels like it’s tormented in the inferno..."
"Her halo is gone," Standing Black Hat hurriedly said.
"That can’t be saved; it’ll grow back after 50 years of cultivation," Farosa began to move, "We need to leave this filthy place."
The Renwang Security team regrouped and got into an off-road vehicle heading towards Lake Shore Sanctuary.
"Zanges has been bombed into a wasteland like the surface of the Moon, nothing left..." Tsuchigumo told Standing Black Hat and Yizhen Tian.
"It’s good that we’re alive," Standing Black Hat sighed, "This is beyond our capacity to deal with. The Seven Seals are the world’s strongest and most mysterious power, even I dare not discuss it too much."
"The Netherworld Thunder God has disappeared," Namahage added, "And the Storm Princess is nowhere to be seen."
Halfway through the journey, they saw a streak of white light flying close in the sky, and Yizhen Tian quickly stood up.
"You, you—" Yizhen Tian called out, "Azrael!"
"Crucified, what a pitiful angel!" Chainsaw Angel came back carrying her red chainsaw with four wings on her back and her halo shining.
She flew directly to the vicinity of the vehicle, lifted Yizhen Tian from her seat, and holding her tightly, flew high into the sky, off to play.
The two estranged angels finally reunited!
"What information did you give her that made her release Yizhen Tian?" Cyber Specter turned to ask Farosa.
"I told her about a place, a place that, given her ’personality’, ’character’, she was bound to visit, a place that could free witches from their anguish," Farosa said indifferently.
The vehicle continued on its way to the Lake Shore Sanctuary.
