Chapter 809: Chapter 667: Grey Angel
"The scriptures say we must look beyond our environment," the Chainsaw Angel looked down.
Minutes later, the Chainsaw Angel, as if relieved of a heavy burden, flapped her gray wings once and descended to converse with the people below.
Her wings were no longer as pure and gleaming white as before. Early entrepreneurs like Mizuiro Yoshioka knew that the Chainsaw Angel had been humiliated by Lady Farosa, and since then, her personality had darkened into silence, and her wings showed signs of decay.
As the Chainsaw Angel approached, the psychic injuries left by Lady Farosa became even more conspicuous, devastatingly so. Her hair lay dry and scattered like that of a dead wild horse, her lips pale, and her skin appeared coated with a thin layer of ash.
Lady Farosa was like an invisible whirlpool, harming others in ways she herself was unaware of. Mizuiro Yoshioka knew this full well, yet couldn’t help but serve Lady Farosa wholeheartedly.
Even now, Mizuiro Yoshioka had developed a line of thought that she wasn’t sure was even right—
If the Chainsaw Angel pledged her utmost loyalty and worshiped Lady Farosa wholeheartedly, wouldn’t she be redeemed and rejuvenated?
"What do you need from me?" the Chainsaw Angel’s wings trembled weakly.
"I am currently working for N.I.O.H Renwang Security Company." Tsuchigumo showed her a hard metallic business card.
The halo above the Chainsaw Angel’s head did not light up, but she could still manipulate objects with some form of telekinesis, moving the card around without physical contact to read it.
"So?" the Chainsaw Angel asked, puzzled.
"Crow-winged Angel Samael sends her regards," said Tsuchigumo succinctly.
The desiccated expression of the Chainsaw Angel changed slightly; she flapped her wings subtly, stepping back a bit.
"I have no connection with that fallen one," emphasized the Chainsaw Angel.
"So you do know Samael. She has started a new life at Renwang Security, now goes by the name ’Yizhen Tian’. Our company is taking on security assignments around the world. Despite being less than half a year old, our strength is guaranteed," Tsuchigumo assured.
"Are you recruiting me?" asked the Chainsaw Angel.
"Yes. What have you been working on lately?" Tsuchigumo nodded briskly.
"Patrolling in Aizu City, maintaining the security of the Underground City," replied the Chainsaw Angel, her tone weary.
"Is it tiring?" asked Mizuiro Yoshioka.
"No threats, most of the time I just stare at the dark shadows under the sea, I don’t know, it’s too lonely here, maybe..." the Chainsaw Angel’s mind was cluttered.
Aizu City, being a small city with only 300,000 people, hardly had any thrilling daily occurrences. The Nestor Corporation brought strong security-backed order, along with a range of laws protecting normal business operations, constantly adding new job opportunities, all of which helped end the state of disorder.
From a psychological standpoint, as long as one’s daily actions created meaning for oneself or for society, tendencies toward self-destruction and crime were minimized.
Working here was like retirement for the Chainsaw Angel, and she didn’t know if it was a blessing or a curse.
"You can still fight, Yizhen Tian needs you." Tsuchigumo said, "She needs you to join her in opposing ’the tyranny of Sky Kingdom’, although, I don’t know what she means."
"I have no will to fight," said the Chainsaw Angel, her face ashen, standing still.
Encapsulated in a glass cage by Lady Farosa, submerged under seawater before being electrocuted—shocked, killed, incontinence, then reborn to be collared and treated like a dog. Such a regimen would break the spirit of anyone.
Walking through multitudes of history alone, the Godslayer, Lady Farosa, made her fearful.
Tsuchigumo, no adept in persuasion, was powerless to change the current state of the Chainsaw Angel. Moreover, she had other missions to attend to, so she merely bowed politely to the Chainsaw Angel.
"So... my apologies for the disturbance," she said.
As Tsuchigumo and Mizuiro Yoshioka turned to leave, the heart of the Chainsaw Angel inevitably felt heavy.
She had no friends here, the only familiar figure being 102, but 102 hadn’t visited in a long time. Surely 102 was busy—better to be busy, she thought.
Her gaze shifted downward to the Little Fool clinging to the railing.
Below the industrial park’s anti-rust grating corridor lay a vast seawater basin, inhabited by Lady Farosa’s "offspring"—variously shaped Ocean Descendants, growing bigger and fiercer by the day.
"Wow!" Little Fool watched the tendrils in the sea pool, which moved like seaweed.
Seeing Little Fool’s unguarded posture by the railing, the Chainsaw Angel realized she viewed these Ocean Descendants as some harmless marine creatures, like observing whales and sharks through reinforced glass at an aquarium.
Ocean Descendants were very dangerous.
Among them, the most powerful "Clares the Second" resembled an apocalyptic beast, Lady Farosa’s favored monster.
These medium and small-sized Ocean Descendants, with their sharp teeth and multitude of tendrils, could easily capture the child, wrap around him, and drag him underwater in less than a second.
They exhibited their harmless dorsal fins above the water, their tendrils swaying in a pleasing manner on the water’s surface, luring the Little Fool.
"Qua-yeah~" Little Fool leaned forward, nearly crossing the railing, reaching out to touch those tendrils.
Snowball barked incessantly, and as Mizuiro Yoshioka looked back with heavy thoughts, she only then noticed the shadow of the Ocean Descendant beneath the water surface. She was astonished that she had forgotten about the fact that Nestor Industrial Park breeds these monstrous creatures, known for their extreme ferocity and bloodthirstiness. She immediately shouted for Little Fool to leave the waterfront.
"Hiss!" An Ocean Descendant extended its whip-like tentacles out of the water.
Chainsaw Angel reached out and dragged Little Fool over, who suddenly felt a powerful invisible hand grabbing her.
"Gurgle—" Little Fool’s body swiftly flew upwards.
From a distance of dozens of meters, she looked down to see the Ocean Descendants emerging one by one from the seawater pools.
They had heads as terrifying as evil dragons, deformed horns, and thick scales covering their heads, their curled tentacles were tipped with ominous glowing orbs that seemed like eyeballs. They hurriedly let out low moans, their tunes unexpectedly deep, like some ancient, blood-soaked ballads.
"You’ve been guarding these things?" Tsuchigumo was greatly surprised upon seeing the deep-sea aberrations emerging from the industrial park’s pools.
"They are my jailers," Chainsaw Angel placed Little Fool in front of herself.
Little Fool unleashed her Magic Power in mid-air, sending an invisible wall of resistance down like sealing the water surface with a lid, pressing all the Ocean Descendants back underwater. They collided with the wall created by Little Fool only to be repelled by the Repulsion Force.
But Little Fool’s Magic Power was too weak, and a junior Ocean Descendant smashed through the invisible barrier, its slender head piercing the surface, invading the industrial park.
Under its lead, more Ocean Descendants climbed out one by one. Chainsaw Angel flew up into the air, embracing Little Fool. She hurriedly climbed along Chainsaw Angel’s body, struggling to hold onto her neck, her head close to Chainsaw Angel’s forehead.
Chainsaw Angel was initially perplexed, but later she still embraced this nearly lost little life.
"Retreat before Chainsaw Angel, Azrael! Those scaly, clawed, filthy beasts should stay at the bottom of the sea!" Chainsaw Angel raised her chainsaw with one hand, pointing it towards the Ocean Descendants below.
"Are they mad because of me?" Little Fool felt guilty.
"No, it has nothing to do with you, they just really want to devour me. They have a very strong appetite, just like their mistress," Chainsaw Angel whispered.
Moreover, it had been a long while since Chainsaw Angel reactivated the battle instincts within her body. She was relieved that she hadn’t become dull and realized she wasn’t as weak as she had feared. What could be more precious than a down-trodden warrior reclaiming her weapon?
Facing several strong Ocean Descendants, Tsuchigumo unfolded her back limbs, using her two pairs of large scythe-legs to support herself and create distance.
Mizuiro Yoshioka then recited an oath, begging for the grace of Lady Farosa.
"Most revered Lady Farosa... Most beautiful Lady Farosa... Witch Goddess... Goddess of the Sea... Please grant your grace, dispel these blind offspring of yours, in this dire moment of peril, only your flawless benevolence can..." Mizuiro Yoshioka, as the chief of the Witch Council, performed the prayer.
She worried that Lady Farosa might refuse to help for various reasons, in which case they would be forced to battle these Ocean Descendants.
But a miracle happened, deep purple radiance flickered in the air, visible only from a special angle, slight deflection would cause one to miss these holy lights.
Under Lady Farosa’s influence, the Ocean Descendants gradually backed off, retreating into the seawater pools.
"...Lady Farosa shelters us, let’s leave now," Mizuiro Yoshioka called Chainsaw Angel to depart.
As the Witch Goddess, Lady Farosa listens daily to countless praises, songs, flattering, and groveling, which she found particularly satisfying during her godly tenure, she also strives for her worshippers to speak as sycophantically as possible to enhance the success rate of their prayers.
"Now I really hope Lady Farosa lets me leave," Chainsaw Angel watched those Ocean Descendants sinking into the water, peering through the surface she could see dozens of red eyes.
"Would you like to help Renwang Security Service?" Tsuchigumo seized this opportunity to recruit.
"We need to wait until she personally talks to Lady Farosa," Mizuiro Yoshioka insisted.
"You feel warm," Little Fool said.
"By the way, this child... who is she?" Chainsaw Angel looked toward Mizuiro Yoshioka.
"You’ve seen her before in Shijin Mansion—always sitting on the windowsill or the floor, motionless, then turning her head and disappearing somewhere..." Mizuiro Yoshioka tried to awaken Chainsaw Angel’s memory.
"Oh! I remember you, Little Fool... Have you grown this big? Become this pretty?" Chainsaw Angel was surprised.
How had that babbling simpleton learned to speak? When she first spoke a complete sentence, the entire company would probably be shocked. Chainsaw Angel was disappointed she wasn’t there to witness it.
"Hoo hoo..." Little Fool said, "Quack."
Mizuiro Yoshioka saw the ugly heads of the Ocean Descendants slowly sinking beneath the water surface; she called them to leave the industrial park for dinner.
"I have to leave for a while... will come back later, you know where to find me," Tsuchigumo took the lead, leaving first.
"Where are you going?" Mizuiro Yoshioka waved.
Tsuchigumo only gave Mizuiro Yoshioka a farewell gesture, then exited from the industrial park entrance.
Aizu City had undergone major changes, but the basic direction of the roads had been retained; thus, Tsuchigumo was still roughly able to discern her way and swiftly departed from the connection point, heading back to Anjiu City.
In the dusk, she looked up at the skyscrapers and the intercrossing neon lights, advertisement billboards gradually lighting up in the dim light, as if the true face of the city was rebooting.
Tsuchigumo raised her arms, shooting spider silk from her wrists. The strong sticky silk swiftly pulled Tsuchigumo upwards. As she ascended to the peak, she shot her spider silk towards a large sign 150 meters away, swaying on the tough spider silk rope, whistling through the air, swiftly navigating through the city with extreme agility.
If all went well, she knew how to let Renwang Security Company return to the stage of the Northern Archipelago.
