Chapter 744: Chapter 618 New Life

```
A40 didn’t even know how to record the Witch (Huang Feng) in front of him.
She was so petite and sweet, with an appearance that overlapped not at all with the Yellow Wasps (Huang Feng) from his memory—wrapped in an oversized, dirty shirt with drooping sleeves and trouser legs.
The clothes didn’t fit, making it difficult to walk, so A40 picked her up.
"I have to settle you in this place," A40 said as he took her to meet Xu Yang. It even covered the Restrictor on her body with a huge emergency blanket to avoid attracting attention.
"This place is so intriguing," the Witch said, holding tightly to A40’s mechanical fingers with her hands, her pale blue eyes constantly scanning the surroundings.
Nestor Headquarters was a corporate structure admired by the world, with its corridors, rooms, floors, and countless offices—only A40 could identify directions in the elongated corridors according to the information navigation map, while the Witch could only follow behind stupidly, afraid of getting lost in the sea of people.
Many employees wore uniforms embellished with a uniform emblem, the Nestor Corporation trademark firmly placed on their chests, symbolizing their unity. They wore uniforms completely voluntarily: there was actually no fixed dress code, and the other half of the employees came in casual wear, with those dressed in cartoon character costumes, casual wear, pajamas, and slippers seen everywhere.
Strolling among them, the Witch observed these people working with ease, feeling an atmosphere akin to Paradise as if they were not there to work, but to enjoy life.
This was a completely enigmatic new experience for the Witch. She had only ever seen military boots, black uniforms, and a sea of indifferent masks. She was familiar with attendance check-ins, punch cards, performance reviews, surveillance, and the terrifying system forged by the company.
The Witch had seen too much, having experienced the boredom of working herself, knowing firsthand that corporate work was a nightmare.
Entering the same work station every day, laboring for over a dozen hours to earn a meager salary, buying the same food, and greeting the repetition of the previous day after a lack of quality sleep. Then repeat, and repeat again... foreseeable to the end, with no anticipation for the next day, one year, two years, ten years—boredom to the point of death, the body and spirit grinding down slowly under the heavy pressure every day, the mere imagination of such experiences made the Witch feel nauseated.
But everything in front of her was utterly different.
She passed through a department, it was Nestor Corporation’s purchasing department, with at least a few hundred people busy at work within it.
"They’re busy..." the Witch said, tilting her head to watch.
Purchasing was a high-pressure job, with marketing, design, finance, and quality control departments all imposing a series of unreasonable demands on purchasing personnel, who also faced suppliers from both home and abroad that were difficult to figure out. They worked hard to choose the best out of numerous categories of goods, preparing orders, considering shipping conditions.
For a behemoth like the Nestor Corporation, such foundation work was indeed fraught with tremendous pressure and was complicated and meticulous.
Yet, the Witch saw them managing quite comfortably, many of them even very relaxed.
Following the principle of more work, more gain, many among them were already very satisfied with their income, so they did not want to earn extra on top of what they currently had. They only pursued a sufficient workload to maintain their current income level, and an ordinary employee’s annual income of 160,000 to 250,000 was more than enough.
Those who wanted to further improve their current material conditions were different. They had to refine their work conditions within precious 8 working hours, pushing efficiency to the extreme. Diligence and work planning would make them stand out, and they would be promoted due to their rich abilities and experience, becoming a manager or supervisor of a branch company or sub-department, thus obtaining the higher salary they desired.
Therefore, the Nestor Corporation’s mobility was very flexible, with everyone’s rank constantly changing, occasionally even choosing to switch departments to try out new jobs.
In any case, within the vast system of the Nestor Corporation, after several months of adaptation, promotion, and mobility, everyone would eventually find the position that suited their nature best. Their work completely corresponded to their skills, talent, and personality, making work not just a means to live but a fundamental way to realize oneself.
Everyone patiently waited for the break to come, looking forward to going to Nestor Headquarters’ famously huge restaurant. Afterward, they would indulge in their myriad interests, filling their evenings with games, music, reading, sports, or other activities, and then return to their decent private residences, adding another comfortable day to their career at Nestor.
The company members served Nestor Corporation, but the existence of the Nestor Corporation was also for the welfare of its members. They completed the work within 8 hours, with quality far exceeding that of others who inefficiently wasted over a dozen hours in other companies.
As the Witch followed A40 wandering through the headquarters, her mood became more and more peaceful.
So, when A40 eventually broke through the labyrinth-like corridors and brought the Witch to Xu Yang’s studio, Xu Yang couldn’t recognize her either.
"This is really... too strange," Xu Yang said as he sized up the Witch.
Her messy black hair, sallow skin, sunken eye sockets had all disappeared. Her eyes were no longer wrapped in dark circles, the cheekbones were no longer protruding in a frightening way, the forehead no longer had a sickly wrinkle, the continuous red and black spots and Secret Script had all disappeared, and that terrible gaze wanting to kill everyone was no more.
At this moment, the Witch was completely a pretty and amiable little girl, about eight or nine years old, with pale golden hair draped over her shoulders, gem-like azure eyes, a small nose, light freckles dotted on her face, skin rosy and delicate. Only the spear-like dark gold Restrictor piercing her chest remained the most noticeable feature.
"Wow, boss, how can we change the Witch back to what she was before? I can’t recognize her as she is now," A40 said.
"She’s fine like this," Xu Yang examined the Witch, "but we still have to figure out a way to hide her, hide her so no one can find her at all."
The Witch, with such a huge Restrictor, was too conspicuous. It was hard to imagine her living with something like that—a gold steel tube, half-transparent, completely piercing through her.
"I want to take her to a secluded place to live," A40 requested.
"Living in this world, you’re bound to be discovered eventually," sighed Huang Feng.
"It doesn’t have to be this world. We have a small space, Nangong Island, where magical plants are grown. You can work and live there, tending to the magical crops, growing melons and beans, and regularly return to the company for supplies," Xu Yang explained.
"That’s wonderful!" A40 was delighted. Now it finally had a chance to put down its blade, leave behind the fighting, and truly retire to a pastoral life with Huang Feng, away from any form of strife.
"I believe you can lead a stable life there," Xu Yang told A40 as he prepared supplies to take to the island.
"I can’t think of a better arrangement... Thank you, thank you..." Huang Feng kept thanking him.
"And your name... you need to revert to your original name. You can’t keep being called Huang Feng," Xu Yang explained.
"Yes..." Huang Feng nodded.
"What? Your name isn’t Huang Feng?" A40 was shocked.
"Do you really think my last name is Huang and my first name Feng?" said Huang Feng, irritated.
"Then what is your real name?" A40 realized it had so much to catch up on; the world was indeed too complicated.
"Let me introduce myself again, A40. I am Witch Adriana Gnevgut from Bayern Fortress in the Rhine Region. It was after I was traded to Black Fire Innovation that they started calling me Huang Feng. From now on, you can call me Anna or Ana," Huang Feng said proudly, standing tall in her small stature.
"I’ve got to update my placeholders, Anna," A40 revised its storage archives.
They packed up their belongings, including packaged food, generators and small appliances, bedding, lightweight furniture, and everything else Huang Feng might need, ready to move to Nangong Island when the time was right.
"Don’t give up on the blade; a Phase Demon might sneak into the alternate space," Xu Yang said as he saw A40 preparing to leave its blade behind.
"There are things I still don’t understand. Whenever Huang Feng is around, I can’t hold the blade steady," A40 said.
"You have to get used to it. By the way, you’ll also have to upload all your combat experience so far to the headquarters’ simulators, so that everyone can have a wider range of battle training scenarios," Xu Yang reminded.
"Blades are dangerous, and if I hold one, I can’t embrace Huang Feng," A40 agreed to upload its combat data but decided to give up fighting.
"Really? You’ve decided to give up weapons altogether?" Xu Yang asked.
"That’s my decision," A40 confirmed.
"It’s willing to change for me," Huang Feng leaned toward A40, her face beaming with a smile.
"That’s also beyond my expectations," Xu Yang observed A40.
"You needn’t worry; I’m no longer who I used to be. I’ve started a life where I no longer have to swing a blade," A40 said earnestly.
It hung its long blade in a collection room of another studio, placing it in the middle of Xu Yang’s collection of technological artifacts, as a memento.
"A new life really begins..." Huang Feng muttered, with no more fighting to do.
Xu Yang left the house. In the evening, A40 sat on the sofa in the small living room with Huang Feng, watching the 150th Gillian Technology Awards ceremony broadcast worldwide.
Inside the Corporate Alliance hall in Greeny City, Taro Tanaka, along with his brave A999, attended the ceremony. The famous Class A Synthetic Human technology had won the prestigious 150th Gillian Technology Award, the highest achievement for a scientist.
After the host announced, the audience erupted with cheers. Taro Tanaka, sitting in his eyeball robot, floated to the podium.
"I am honored to receive this year’s Gillian Award with the strong support of my peers. Without a doubt, A999, sitting by my side, represents the most powerful, sophisticated, and perfect product among Class A Synthetic Humans. In a month-long test, it flawlessly passed all 200 combat tests, proving its excellence. No other robot can defeat A999..."
A40 watched the broadcast on the screen, silently walked into the next room, and picked up its blade again.
"What are you doing?" Huang Feng stared at it.
"Uh." A40’s hand held the blade unnaturally.
