Chapter 695 - 581: Dragon Egg

Chapter 695: Chapter 581: Dragon Egg

Childbirth is an inconvenient affair. Kirino Reisei asked Xu Yang to leave, and she stayed closely by the door herself, to prevent others from disturbing.

Wei Shiyue laid alone in the secret chamber, her long tail wrapped around her. All she could feel was the swelling in her belly. The egg had absorbed enough vitality of life, merging with the thick death energy to transform into an even more mystical power, one that even Wei Shiyue could not fully discern.

The bright moon, Death’s Breath, the scorching sun, human principles—four powers capable of supporting the world converged within the same dragon egg. There were times when Wei Shiyue worried that she might fail to deliver it successfully.

But the time still came. She let out a piercing cry, enduring the unbearable pain and dizziness, and slowly birthed a gigantic egg.

The unprecedented expansion brought intense suffering to Wei Shiyue, the shell of the egg warm as if ablaze.

When the egg first encountered the air of the outside world, the entire secret chamber became darker than before—beyond what ordinary light could dispel.

Kirino Reisei stood outside the room, turning her head to look at the ominous sky. Aside from the Moon Dragon Race, dragons had undoubtedly become extinct upon the earth. Yet now, Wei Shiyue had birthed a new offspring here, a scene that would become a grand mark in history. Kirino Reisei never imagined that before her own death, she would have the fortune to witness such an event.

Immediately after, Wei Shiyue let out a long howl, as if having shed a great burden.

Kirino Reisei couldn’t wait to open the door to the secret chamber. The dark and deadly energy surged outwards, almost as if it could instantly drain her life force away.

"You shouldn’t have opened the door," Wei Shiyue slowly rose to her feet, calmly and firmly guarding beside her newly birthed pitch-black dragon egg.

"This concubine, too, is a dying person. Rather, it is the surprise of seeing a dragon offspring that makes me cling to life, unwilling to miss out," Kirino Reisei walked deeper into the secret chamber. Having taken care of Wei Shiyue for many days, she already considered herself one-tenth a mother to the dragon egg.

The dragon egg was born, measuring 2 meters high, with its shell covered in dark purple mucus, emitting a foul stench, appearing completely like a decaying egg of death. Yet upon closer inspection, Kirino Reisei saw that beneath the shell were interwoven lines of moon-white, gold, and gray hues, sustaining the continued growth of the dragon within.

"You have done it." Kirino Reisei attempted to touch the egg, but Wei Shiyue had already moved her tail up high, as though ready to impale her or sweep her away at any moment.

"It is very fragile. My sisters take at least 2 to 5 years to incubate their eggs, and I too must carefully tend to it, until the young dragon is strong enough to break out of its shell," Wei Shiyue said, slowly pacing around the egg.

"Its existence is an anomaly," Kirino Reisei couldn’t help but think about this fated issue.

In truth, the lot Wei Shiyue drew at that time was "Separation of the Rainbow."

It was neither a sign of great luck nor an omen of dire misfortune.

According to Kirino Reisei’s knowledge, "rainbow" represents thousands of colors, with themes of joy as well as symbols of oaths. "Separation of the Rainbow" implies that this young dragon will live its life isolated from all colors, accompanied only by solitude and shadows, cut off from all hues.

Seeing Kirino Reisei’s demeanor, although unaware of the details, Wei Shiyue also felt a tinge of wistfulness.

"Every dragon lives long. It will find its own path and overcome all obstacles," Wei Shiyue said, standing tall.

"The very first obstacle it will face is... its very existence has contaminated the Eternal Cherry Blossom shrine. This concubine must ask you to leave with your dragon egg within three days, then exorcise the evil spirits to restore purity to the shrine," Kirino Reisei warned with a voice gentle yet firm.

"I will take it to a secluded place suitable for egg incubation, perhaps build a nest on a cliff by the sea, just as all dragons do—claiming a giant cave," Wei Shiyue growled hoarsely, her claws ready to sharpen.

City life is too narrow for a dragon, or a dragon’s family.

"Then that is well," Kirino Reisei nodded slowly.

If Wei Shiyue refused to leave with the egg, the Eternal Cherry Blossom Shrine would soon become a deathly quiet graveyard. On the surface, Wei Shiyue seemed like an ordinary creature, but she must have secretly practiced the necromantic arts, or else she could not have sustained such a heavy aura of death. She had emerged unscathed from many fierce battles, no doubt due to her mastery of such arts.

Wei Shiyue’s gaze fell upon the giant egg; inside was a mass yet unable to move, untouched by form. She could imagine how the child blended Wei Shiyue’s dragon blood with Xu Yang’s vitality. The two would come together tightly, nurturing the young dragon, which would grow gradually within the egg until it was strong enough to smash through the shell and emerge.

Given time, it could even fly and hunt. Just the thought of this wonderful prospect softened the usually steely Wei Shiyue’s heart. If Xu Yang’s seed proved to be robust enough, Wei Shiyue would have many more eggs to lay in the future.

"Thank you," Wei Shiyue also expressed gratitude for all of Kirino Reisei’s help.

Kirino Reisei was well-versed in the esoteric knowledge prevalent across the Northern Archipelago, and whether Farosa was present or not, all difficult questions were best consulted with Kirino Reisei. She was also proficient in the secret script, so many messages could be exchanged with her.

"This concubine is also curious about something. How will Xu Yang’s ’resources’ affect the state of this dragon? Will it be like a human?" Kirino Reisei observed the egg.

"The dragon’s bloodline will prevail over everything. It will surely be strong and beautiful, with scales like steel, billowing dragon fire, and wings that unfurl wide as the clouds that blot out the sun. But it will also be saturated with human bloodlines. Thus, when it takes human form, it must have black hair and black eyes, like its father. As it continues to proliferate with humans, the dragon blood will gradually dilute, posing concerns such as the degeneration of wings and the loss of dragon horns," Wei Shiyue spoke eloquently.

"Have you thought of a name yet?" Kirino Reisei broached the most important topic.

"A dragon will find its own name. I chose my own as well," Wei Shiyue’s gaze was distant as it settled on the sinister-looking Dracolich egg.

The Dracolich, Prince of Shadows, Qualified One, ruler of the dark path, the Dragon cut off from the world, the fiend that devours darkness. Wei Shiyue longed to see it grow, and to rule the expanse of sky where it would freely soar.

Kirino Reisei stepped back and closed the door of the chamber. Wei Shiyue might spend several years on this young dragon, but that was insignificant. As one of the Immortal Kind, Wei Shiyue had at least 2000 to 3000 years left to live; all earthly matters were but fleeting shadows in her life. By comparison, humans and witches faded like morning dew.

...

After returning to Nestor Headquarters, Xu Yang stayed in his workshop.

Du Qianqian came looking for him.

"Where is Wei Shiyue?" Du Qianqian was dressed in a very simple black shirt, looking like an exceedingly ordinary girl.

Xu Yang found her current simple attire much more pleasing to the eye than when she was clad in fine jewels and luxury brands.

"She doesn’t want to be found, and it might take some time," Xu Yang explained.

"Maybe it was me who pushed her away," Du Qianqian felt adrift, "or maybe we were never meant to be from the start."

"Was there ever true love?"

"Desire? Utilization? Submission? There was a bit of everything." Du Qianqian’s face showed her vulnerability.

She fell silent for a moment.

"Maybe it’s better for both of us to cool down a bit," Du Qianqian looked at the ground, talking to herself.

"Your clothes have changed."

"Not just the clothes... I sold the house and car, too, and put the money into her studio to maintain her fan circle. That way, even if she’s inactive for a long time, her popularity won’t decline too quickly. I... I’m also managing her social media." Du Qianqian started to cry as she spoke.

From the moment Wei Shiyue left, Du Qianqian reverted to the person Xu Yang was more familiar with. She got hurt and ran into trouble in all aspects, always bumping into something or getting cut on missions. Worry left an indelible mark on her face; she knew she had lost someone important and that reunion was an eternal wait. Sorrow wrapped around her, and tears flowed unceasingly.

"Maybe you can return to your old way of life... going on missions, instead of counting money," Xu Yang said to her.

"What else can I do?" Du Qianqian lifted her tear-streaked face.

"Take a trip to Jialong Slope. We need to assemble a team to infiltrate the area and rescue A40 and Huang Feng, who haven’t given a sign of life," Xu Yang nodded. It was extremely rare for A40 to be out of touch for so long.

"I think I can do that." Du Qianqian recalled her shape-shifting magic power, which she hadn’t used in so long she had almost forgotten she was a witch.

"And as for Wei Shiyue—don’t worry, she is a dragon, and so she has her moments of revelry and caprice, just like all other dragons. So, in the future, she might suddenly change her mind and decide to come back to you in the blink of an eye."

"I understand," Du Qianqian had made up her mind, wiped away her tears, and quickly left the workshop.

Rinne emerged from the adjacent room, her hands clasped behind her back.

"So they’ve split up?" She was full of curiosity.

"It’s complicated," Xu Yang could only summarize, "Although it’s strange, there’s still a chance things will get better..."

"People always do foolish things at some point in their lives," Rinne said with feigned wisdom.

"Let’s go," Xu Yang stood up, "You have completed all the missions I have given you. It’s time for your final lesson. After this last training, you will gain mastery over the entirety of the Helis Sea, truly becoming a master of the Helis Sea."

At his words, Rinne was overcome with joy.

"Let’s go!"
