Chapter 626 - 530
Chapter 626: 530
In the waiting area outside the ward, the space teemed with patients and their families, each face etched with worry. The hospital was Rinne’s least liked place to visit, packed as it always was with scenes of parting and loss. Conscience and morality were constantly tested here.
Masasuke Hazuki stood next to a heating pipe, his face cleanly shaved, expressionless, and meticulously groomed. His black hair was tied back, and he was dressed in a black suit and tie, with his katana strapped to his back.
"Why at the hospital?" Rinne looked around, surrounded by promotions for medical packages, all kinds of diseases that could be cured if people were willing to pay the price.
"My girlfriend is hospitalized here," Hazuki’s voice sounded devoid of emotion, as if the pressures of life had numbed him completely.
"Sorry to bring that up," Rinne sniffed the air, an amalgamation of faint disinfectant, the hospital’s atmosphere always seemed sterile to her, "It must cost a fortune daily here. If you need money, we’re still recruiting. Work for us, and you’ll get your share of the dividends."
"I don’t know," Hazuki didn’t immediately agree, "...the medicine isn’t working, she’s dying."
"When did she fall ill?" Rinne, thinking of Nestor Corporation’s Recovery Star, couldn’t help but say.
"..." Hazuki felt at a loss for words at the question. He stamped on the ground as if trying to kick away the inquiry but finally voiced it, "A year ago."
"We can help her recover," Rinne proposed her idea, "but you need to help train a very vicious and unreasonable Synthetic Human, as well as help us complete missions."
Hazuki fell silent for a while, weighing the pros and cons.
"...Yes," Hazuki nodded, "You are from Nestor Corporation...there might be a way."
"Exactly," Rinne stepped back gracefully, "If you’re willing to help, come to this location."
Rinne left the coordinates of a company warehouse with Hazuki, then slipped away from the medical center.
Looking at the opportunity before him and then back at the ward, Hazuki seemed to see those who were dying or already dead. He recalled all the efforts from the past to the present, closed his eyes, and silently sought inner strength. The invitation from Nestor Corporation was not simple – the company had done many mysterious things. Mystery meant danger, and there were terrifying rumors about witches involved. Hazuki couldn’t just recklessly comply.
After leaving, Rinne went back to sparring with Da Pan at the Nestor Headquarters training camp.
"There’s progress, I see." Pan Ruiyi looked down from above and thrust her spear fiercely at Rinne, who deftly countered with filament threads and Dragon Blades.
But now Pan Ruiyi wasn’t using her Magic Power, relying solely on her natural strength, Witch Armor, and weapons to fight, which made it a bit more manageable for Rinne. Rinne endured the pressure from Pan Ruiyi, her brows furrowed; the gap was still there, but the only consolation was that it wasn’t as insurmountable as she had feared.
At this rate, Rinne was gradually becoming a threat to Pan Ruiyi, someone she would have to fight with all her might eventually.
As for when Rinne could completely surpass Pan Ruiyi, she wasn’t certain. She had to challenge Pan Ruiyi in aspects like hacking skills, shooting, and maneuvering, not just stubbornly stick to close combat.
After finishing the training, Rinne grabbed a sports drink, and Da Pan turned to leave.
"Where are you heading next?" Rinne asked.
"Have to take care of some things, get them done quickly, then there’s an event tonight," Pan Ruiyi hurried away, not as composed as usual.
That evening, Rinne went back to Shijin Mansion to practice punching postures. This time, she had to make up for the morning and midday sessions she missed.
Lying on the bed, Rinne was suddenly startled by a flashing object approaching outside. It entered through the electrically operated windows — to her amazement, it was Da Pan with his towering figure!
"What are you doing here!" Rinne exclaimed.
"Why is it you!" Pan Ruiyi was even more shocked, "When did you... No, you... When did you!?"
"Don’t panic," Xu Yang responded nonchalantly, "Let’s do it together."
Lying on the covers, Rinne’s face was flushed, just as red as Pan Ruiyi’s lying beside her.
"You’re very good-looking," Rinne saw Pan Ruiyi’s face beneath the mask for the first time and heard her real voice.
"...Quiet!" Pan Ruiyi found it excruciatingly embarrassing to be in such a situation with her own student, after fighting fiercely in battle, only to be hammered together now.
An extraordinarily ardent session commenced and, sure enough, Rinne felt like someone was missing. Predictably, in the early hours, President Lila Nestor arrived for the regular cleaning.
"I’ll be there in a moment," Lila glanced at the scene in the room and decided to start by cleaning the outer rooms.
Rinne already struggled to secure a spot from Pan Ruiyi; now she felt the chances were even slimmer. But it didn’t matter, she could support — the last thing she wanted was to be idle!
