Chapter 296: Chapter 268 Resistance to Death

```
Lila vowed to carry out every command her master had issued.
Her master entrusted Aizu City to her, and Lila silently professed she would defend this underground city without a single leak, never allowing her master to be disappointed.
There were two ways to open the prison lock: one was with a key, held only by Farosa, displaying her control over the prisoners. The other was biometric identification, tied to the electronic tokens of Xu Yang and Lila. Once verified, the iron door would instantly open.
Prisoners were dangerous. Lila steadied her sniper rifle, using her magic power to lock onto the Chainsaw Angel in the cell. Every move the angel made was crystal clear to Lila, leaving no chance for her to act opportunistically.
The Chainsaw Angel was acutely aware of this as she bent over and crawled out. The door frame was too narrow to accommodate her enormous white wings. She had eaten very little, surviving on the meager amount of food given by 102 until now, which made her figure particularly thin and gaunt, cheeks hollowed, and wings filled with gaps.
"Give her some vitality," Lila ordered.
Sally walked forward, taking Chainsaw Angel’s hand, releasing the Rat Witch’s power. Her magic allowed living beings to grow at an extraordinary speed. Under the influence of the magic, the Chainsaw Angel rapidly improved. In just a few seconds, her physical condition significantly bettered, especially her previously withered wings, which now looked as smooth as new, the frost-white feathers as exquisite as silk brocade.
"Thank you," the Chainsaw Angel bowed in gratitude to Sally, "May God bless you."
"She herself is a god," Lila looked up, "We need to plug the hole up there. Can you help with that?"
"I can. But, where is that woman known for her ferocity and brutality?" Chainsaw Angel cast her gaze towards the hole in the dome, "Where did she go?"
"Don’t worry," Lila said, "I’m protecting you."
With a flap of her wings, Chainsaw Angel ascended, summoning the angelic miracles. She began to chant in ancient secret scripts, the tune soft and rustic, grand and elegant, holy singing making the air quiver slightly. The cracks began to repair themselves, and blessed metal emerged from the gaps. The metal flowed continuously and quickly filled the breach, solidifying naturally with considerable strength that could prevent the sea from rushing in.
As Chainsaw Angel released the miracle, the surging sea water was ultimately held back. The influx of water into the industrial park immediately ceased as if a piece of fabric was torn from the middle, and the remaining bits scattered on the ground, soon disappearing without a trace, unable to pose a threat any longer.
Lila watched carefully.
Miracles were abilities related to the Ancient Mystics. The vows of the Forest Master, the stone slabs Farosa had recently deciphered, and the holy chanting of the Chainsaw Angel, all relied on the script of antiquity, which had a more ancient history. It wasn’t until the establishment of the Giant Tower and deities unifying different languages that this ancient script gradually fell out of human cognition.
"It’s done," Chainsaw Angel flapped her wings, descending, a tense and uneasy expression showing on her face, "Are you satisfied?"
"Not bad," Lila nodded lightly, "Now let’s head to the exit of Aizu City that leads to the surface; it must be crowded with escapees."
"I don’t know you," Chainsaw Angel inquired while flying alongside the Rat Witch who followed them.
Sally’s form was even larger, and the characteristics of a rat more pronounced, covered with dense fur, tail tipped with thorns, her figure lean and muscular, embodying the majesty of the deity of all rats, a sight any Ratfolk would revere.
"I don’t know you either," Sally said as she scurried swiftly on all fours, both fast and light, as if she were born to move this way, "My name is Sally, I’m the leader of the Ratfolk."
"I am the Chainsaw Angel, Azrael," said the Chainsaw Angel.
When they arrived at Highway 90, they immediately saw the "Canopy" covering Aizu City had stopped working, plunging the entire city into darkness.
The Canopy was responsible for creating a 24-hour realistic sky and weather system, a means for the underground residents to delude themselves, and it also had significant meaning, representing the stable order of society. The fact that the Canopy system was down indicated that the situation had deteriorated beyond repair.
The clamor set people’s hearts trembling with fear, and they began to leave their rooms and gather on the streets, or peeked out from windows. Lila saw everything clearly, much like the situation back then when they seemed afraid of the outbreak of a second Rat Tide. However, this time, the killers were far more terrifying than the Ratfolk, and the number of casualties caused would be much higher.
This was a corporate war.
"Control the situation," Lila messaged Asa Katsuragi, "Maintain stability."
"Of course I know!" Asa Katsuragi messaged back, frantic and exasperated, "There’s fighting ahead, and many collapses in the city, monsters running amok!"
Boom, boom—
More rumblings and explosions erupted incessantly, with chaotic screams and cries of panic resonating through the streets. Security personnel stationed within the community attempted to maintain order, but their means were limited—they could only shout loudly, urging people to return to their homes and not to panic. Many were skeptical, afraid that staying at home meant waiting for death, and they immediately began packing up whatever they could carry, looking for available vehicles in an attempt to escape Aizu City.
"The people in Rat Village must be very scared too." Sally longed to return to the Rat Village she constantly thought of.
"As long as they don’t run out, everything will be fine," Lila said. "Follow me!"
Innovation, White Smoke, Purple Wind, and Anonymous had all been dragged to the ground, which was troublesome. Lila ran toward a driverless taxi parked by the street, swiped her cash card, and all four doors opened at once.
Chainsaw Angel exerted all her strength to fold her enormous wings and squeezed into the car, occupying all the space in the back row by herself. She forcefully closed the doors on both sides and immediately felt cramped, her wings pressing against the roof and causing her to feel stifled.
Sally sat in the passenger seat, using a Ratman Communicator to message the other Ratfolk, announcing her revival and asking them to stay calm amidst the overwhelming chaos, insisting that they must wait for her in Rat Village.
She believed she bore some kind of responsibility, not just for the Ratfolk near Aizu City but also to aid her kind struggling to survive in dark corners around the world. The Ratfolk had once been divided, radical, and ignorant, but now they had a true leader.
The taxi, being autonomous, drove to Number 26 Highland and stopped, reluctant to go further because the escaping stream of vehicles was jammed in the road, immobile.
Above their heads, several shuttle machines rushed past the air lanes, seeking to escape to the ground, but upon reaching the entrance, they realized the true source of the crisis was on the ground and hurried back, meanwhile loudly broadcasting:
"The monsters are coming! The monsters are coming!" a few well-informed shuttle owners shouted down to the terrified stream of vehicles, "Don’t go out! Hide in your homes!"
Lila requested Asa Katsuragi to send a shuttle machine to pick them up, but Katsuragi was too busy organizing gang members scattered across various districts of Aizu City. Everything was in disarray; she could only send a gang member to find a functioning shuttle machine, but it would take a considerable effort to reach Lila.
The sudden fierce battle disrupted everyone’s daily rhythm. Lila turned on the news channel only to find the signal had already been cut off—it seemed that Kakuya Media had also been attacked, and the entire Anjiu City was in chaos.
Rumors abounded, with most people either aware or suspecting the appearance of Martinez, while a few even saw Yama in the news broadcast. Many sat down by the streetsides, searching for available live streams on short video platforms, and a few fearless livestreamers were broadcasting the scenes of gigantic aerospace warships bombing the city, immediately unveiling the truth.
Several heavy fighter jets streaked across the sky, dropping incredibly powerful bombs. The deafening sound of explosions made people of Aizu City even more terrified—they first heard the loud noises and felt the earth shake before they saw the live broadcast on the stream, confirming that all of it was indeed happening.
"Help!"
"I don’t want to die..."
"What should we do—"
Murmurs, moans, and cries arose incessantly among the crowds. Many who had intended to hide in their homes and wait for the chaos to pass, upon seeing everyone in the streets evacuating, also rushed downstairs to flee with them. When they heard that monsters had appeared ahead, they were thrust into extreme conflict, wanting to escape Aizu City but unable to leave. Wanting to stay in their homes, they were discontent and afraid of missing out on vital news, fearful that everyone else would flee, leaving them to die underground.
The whole of Number 26 Highland was packed with people, jam-packed to the point water couldn’t trickle through. About a dozen green driverless taxis were stuck, horns blasting loudly. Observing this scene, Lila couldn’t help but remember the Rat Tide, which was similarly congested.
"I’m going to dismantle No. 1 Junction in the future," Lila said. "I’ll re-plan the entire Underground City. Miss Chainsaw Angel, take me to the exit of the Underground City. Sally, you follow through the Rat Paths."
"Oh," Sally quietly crawled away.
Chainsaw Angel opened the car door and crawled out, then stretched her wings that had been confined for a long time, flapping them strongly to exercise her muscles. Lila, clutching her sniper rifle, jumped onto Chainsaw Angel’s back and rode the Angel towards the front lines.
"Notify all ground anti-air fire power," Lila messaged Katsuragi, "friendly large-winged single unit online, codename: Chainsaw Angel."
Katsuragi was at the exit of Aizu City, on an eight-lane highway, leading the elite members of the Katsuragi Gang to erect barricades and defend desperately. She was frantic, shouting loudly to send the vehicles fleeing aimlessly within Aizu City back. Receiving Lila’s message, she quickly notified the Hui City District’s remaining personnel that the current Chainsaw Angel was not an enemy.
"Chainsaw Angel—"
"Chainsaw Angel!" Atop several buildings in Hui City District, weapon teams on guard almost shot Chainsaw Angel down, but they ceased fire upon receiving Katsuragi’s timely updated message.
"You’re much cooler than that crazy woman," Chainsaw Angel flapped her wings strenuously, flying towards the Underground City exit. "Are you a Witch too?"
"Yes. And as long as I am here, Aizu City will not fall!" Lila stood up on Chainsaw Angel’s back, skillfully maintaining her balance in the wild winds, and aimed her sniper rifle at the exit.
