Chapter 1047: Chapter 821: Growing Vegetables in the Sky
The Divine Radiance had become Xu Yang’s new floating base.
This shuttle machine was incredibly fast and useful; Xu Yang felt like he could spend his entire life inside it.
It hovered 3,000 meters above Shangjing, looking like a drop of black tear in the sky from afar.
The weather was excellent; winter had passed. Xu Cheng and Bubble were playing in the recreation room, while Xu Yang was taking care of plants and animals in the natural pod with Baby Lila.
The so-called "natural pod" was an extra module specifically designed for cultivating ecosystems. Xu Yang had personally designed it and attached it to the side of the Divine Radiance.
The pod’s floor had a 25-centimeter-thick layer of ecological soil, rich in nutrients. A six-meter-long synthetic pathway, styled to resemble wood, ran through the center. Essential operating stations were embedded into the walls to save space.
"Measurements show that the ratio and functionality of plants and animals have reached a balance point. Master, do you wish to make any modifications to it?" Lila held a sleek metal data panel; the chaotic numbers on it were only manageable by her.
"I want to raise cows on the Divine Radiance," Xu Yang said.
"Don’t even think about it!" Star Weaving Lady exclaimed furiously.
From the very beginning, Star Weaving Lady had been adamantly against Xu Yang’s extreme modifications to the Divine Radiance. She could barely tolerate them now, but raising cows was absolutely out of the question.
She floated around the cabin. As an AI, her "physical appearance" was a holographic projection, making her movement ghost-like. Despite wearing a dainty dress and having a delicate, cute face, her virtual image featured two dazzling golden twin-tailed hair drills on top—resembling massive rock drills or gigantic excavation tools. They swayed relentlessly with gravity as she walked, seeming like they might destroy everything around, though thankfully it was only a projection.
"Fine then." Xu Yang dropped the idea, realizing that keeping cows aboard the Divine Radiance might indeed be impractical.
He just wanted fresh milk every day and a homemade beef meal once yearly. It looked like he’d have to stock up on milk cartons and make more trips to cattle farms.
Hmm... What about raising chickens?
As he seriously considered this thought, he looked around.
The natural pod was his pride and joy, capable of running in a completely closed-loop system.
The plants here ranged from hardy succulents to delicate ferns, all thriving robustly and forming a lush, vibrant green landscape.
Xu Yang relied on them to purify the shuttle’s air, recycle water, reduce energy consumption, and promote environmental sustainability—a multi-purpose achievement.
Selected insects crawled among the plant clusters, aerating the soil and nibbling on leaves to prevent excessive growth. Tiny birds perched on high flower branches, their feathers dazzlingly beautiful despite their finger-sized bodies. They vigilantly eyed the insects in the soil below, ready to prey on them and maintain balance in the food chain.
In the corner, a large aquarium housed several types of fish. They were likely the highest-altitude swimmers on Earth. Inside were algae, rocks, snails, turtles, and an ecological plant lamp. The aquarium itself was a mini-ecosystem within the natural pod—essentially a system within a system.
Xu Yang sat in a chair located at the center of the ecological pod.
Perfect bliss...
In the Divine Radiance, surrounded by technological conduits, leather, metal, and display screens, this small garden felt like a sacred oasis. The air here was also more naturally fresh than other parts of the cabin.
The view outside the porthole—a boundless sight from thousands of meters above ground—added to the surreal charm.
Xu Yang had also planted oranges, sweet potatoes, strawberries, and grapes. Though the quantities were small, they thrived. The green vines sprawled wildly, flanking his chair, and Xu Yang eagerly anticipated the moment of harvesting them with his own hands.
Previously, Xu Yang always thought he wasn’t good at handiwork. Now, he felt much more confident—it seemed he was capable of crafting some decent creations after all.
"I’m going to move the Divine Radiance!" Star Weaving Lady was annoyed with leaving the Divine Radiance parked in one place for too long, and thus piloted it elsewhere.
"Any news from other parts of the world?" Xu Yang leaned back in his chair and relaxed.
Lila savored the time spent alone with her master.
"...Although the corporate wars have ceased, organized and large-scale crimes have surged again, their scope growing larger and larger. Recently, the most infamous groups have been the ’Domination Movement’ and the ’Blackstone Market.’" Lila sat on Xu Yang’s lap, holding the data panel, and reported the information to him meticulously.
Xu Yang focused closely.
The Domination Movement was a destructive militia group advocating for unemployed and desperate individuals to join their ranks. These recruits received formal military training and launched challenges against corporate order.
To date, the Domination Movement had been causing continuous waves of robbery and destruction across the globe.
"Quite a spectacle." Xu Yang checked the New World Mechanism forum; people were discussing the ideas and beliefs shared by the Domination Movement. However, the group hadn’t set up its own discussion threads within the New World Mechanism, only arranging for some promotional personnel, seemingly mistrusting the platform.
Back in the network war targeting the West Coast, Xu Yang had successfully caused a blackout there. The Domination Movement took the opportunity to expand aggressively, successfully robbing many banks and garnering widespread fame.
Since then, not only had they acquired funds, but they also gained substantial reputation, driven by a fervent desire to obliterate corporations.
Their early members included professional mercenaries, hackers, retired veterans who couldn’t get their pensions, reporters focused on exposing corporate corruption, anti-corporate refugees seeking sanctuary, those hunted by companies for unpaid debts or missed payments, and others suddenly laid off or left jobless with nowhere to turn... all of whom harbored varying degrees of resentment toward corporations.
