Chapter 30: The five

Clack clack

Footsteps echoed across the white marble floor. Sunlight streamed through the arch windows on one side, casting shadows on the opposite wall.

Five figures walked together, all in white-like uniforms with golden trims and buttons. Two ladies and three men.

The first lady was tall. She carried a cold aura around her. Her silky black hair flowed from side to side as she walked. Her sharp eyes looked forward, not glancing to the side even once. A long sword hung from her waist, the pommel pure silver with a crystal embedded in it. The hilt was wrapped in black, and the sheath was white with a gold tip.

She rested her white-gloved hand on the sword as she walked.

The second lady was smaller in stature. She had flowy white hair that reached down to her waist. Her eyes were calm and warm. She seemed delicate. She walked with a staff made of some sort of white wood and a red orb at the top, mysteriously suspended above the staff.

She smiled softly as she walked, and despite her warm appearance, she was still confident—and she exuded it perfectly.

As for the men, one was at the front, and he carried the aura of a leader. Clad in his suit, tall and very handsome, a jawline sharp enough to cut diamonds, and eyes that could pull the hearts of all the ladies.

His black hair was styled perfectly to the back. He was the definition of elegance and perfection. His sword hung by his waist as well, but on his left side, and his hand rested on it.

The second man was bulky as a wall, with a low buzzcut and a chiseled face. His muscles pushed against the fabric of his clothes as if fighting for freedom. And on his back was a massive greatsword, a blade of black steel.

The last man was much different. He was smaller and walked in a leaned-back manner, hands in his pockets and no weapon on his body. His skin was deathly pale, and his eyes had dark circles around them.

The five of them together carried a very strong aura.

They made it to a door, and the leader pushed it open.

Creak

The door swung open and they walked in, heads high and pride-filled. Inside the room was a large and long table with chairs around it, and at the top of this table was a man dressed like a pope or bishop.

With white and gold robes, a mitre sat on his head, and a star with seven points showed on it, made of pure gold and set there.

In his hands was a staff five feet tall, with the same star at the top. There were many engravings on the staff as well.

And beside the man, on opposite sides of the table, were two men—one dressed in royal robes like a king, and one dressed like a bishop of sorts.

They all stared at the five as they walked in. The five bowed their heads slightly and then walked to take their seats calmly.

"It is good to have you here. Ever since you arrived a few days back, I’ve wanted to meet you, but Lucas here told me that you have been training," the pope spoke.

"We have also wanted to see you, Your Holiness. After all, it’s because of you and the Holy Empire that we have been able to grow this fast.

Under all your guidance, in only two days, our bloodlines have reached level fifteen," the leader spoke. He thanked the man, yet managed not to make himself look like he was under the man’s feet, just grateful.

"Level fifteen in two days. It seems we were right to select you as the ones to serve as the leaders of the Chosen for the Holy Empire.

As the pope, I give you all the same level of power as a bishop, because you need that level of power for the missions you are going to be going on.

You are to gather all Chosen that you deem to have potential under you, for the greatness of the Empire.

The better you do, the better the benefits you will get, and this world will be under your feet as you help humanity rule this world," the pope said. Then his demeanor became serious. He pulled out a crystal ball and placed it on the table.

"As for your first mission, it is simple, and it will be your external mission until you bring it to pass.

In a forest in a small kingdom, DragonBlade, something was found, a place where a being that shouldn’t be allowed in this world was kept," the pope said and tapped the ball. A gas swirled inside and then showed the place that Zane had awoken from, showing the blood coffin and the tubes of humans.

The five frowned when they saw it. Seeing humans in test tubes made their stomachs churn.

"Who would do something like this?" the girl with white hair asked.

"This place was used to keep someone from a banished and cursed race, a vampire. They existed eons ago but were cursed by the gods, and their history was washed away from all places.

Even you hearing it here is because you have to take down this vampire. You have to find him and kill him before he makes more and causes destruction.

Vampires are a darkness that can’t be allowed to spread. And if one of them has made it into the world, we must take him down, as a mandate from the true gods. And this is a task that I want to leave to you five."
