Si Ning was getting tired, he had no more arrows and he kept stopping to catch his breath while he fends off any attack, he knew Qiu Bai was still far from him and before he gets to him, his legs might give way so it was impossible for him to run anymore, he looked around and spotted a horse that was standing in the middle of the battlefield like it was confused while it kept moving in distress. Si Ning’s eyes shimmered and he almost knelt to thank the heavens because most of the horses in battle were wounded or dead, he ran to the horse and jumped on immediately grabbing the reigns as the horse neighs and rose to swing his forelegs to get ready to run so Si Ning kicked it and started to lead the horse right in the direction of Qiu Bai.

It was like there were no obstacles on the way as the horse ran through the battlefield and cold air hit Si Ning’s face drying out his sweaty face in an instant as he kicked the horse to run faster, jumping over the corpses on the way.

"Ya!" Si Ning kicked the horse but found himself falling forward instead as the horse neighs and tumbled forward, it seemed someone had cut off one of the forelegs of the horse making the horse lose balance as it neighs in pain.

Si Ning rolled on the ground because it was unexpected, his hand in a tight grip around his bow as he closed his eyes to avoid dirt entering them and the moment he opened his eyes all he saw was a flash-like thing coming down on him which he instintly on reflex used his bow to guard himself and it was a sword which cut through his bow into two but the bow was made with hard fine wood so it obstructed the sword from cutting through it immediately just by a mere second and this was the moment Si Ning used to roll out of the way just as the sword cut the bowstring.

Si Ning jumped to his feet immediately holding the two damaged bow parts, he had no time to be pained about his damaged heirloom so he threw the two half bows on the ground and pulled out his sword immediately as he came face to face with Qiu Bai guard. "You!"

"You will not go further than this I will take your head!" The guard said confidently.

Si Ning held his sword with both hands as he took on a fighting stance, the man he was going to fight with was a dangerous man Si Ning wasn’t sure he would be able to cope with his style of fighting which includes secret weapons but for this war, Si Ning would not have doubt and he needs to get rid of the guard if he was going to get to Qiu Bai.

"What a disrespectful man, I will teach you to respect those above you." Si Ning pinpointed and visualized how he was going to get rid of the man before him merely with three moves, he would dash forward, make a fake that he was about to pierce his stomach and any movement the guard make to avoid the sword would cost him his neck because Si Ning’s true aim was the neck.

Si Ning dashed forward to carry out his visualised attack but he bent backwards immediately he saw the guard reach into his lapel and him bending a ninety-degree made him avoid the two darts that were thrown at him, he turned and stood up only to see more darts thrown at his way and he twisted his waist and dodged one, bent his head to dodge another and even jumped to dodge one that was aimed at his leg. It was unbelievable he could dodge those darts and the moment he landed on his feet the guard already dashed forward with his sword aiming to dig it into Si Ning’s stomach but Si Ning swung his sword which collided with the sword making it fly upward but the guard grip was strong so he didn’t lose the sword.

Si Ning used that opportunity to aim at the guard’s arm from above to disconnect the arm from the shoulder but the guard was able to recover and dodged to the side. Si Ning jumped back, he had to strategised how to end the fight at once, the way his heart kept beating in his chest and his breath heavy, it had been a long time since he exercised so this was extreme.

The battle between them started and it seemed Qiu Bai’s guard already used the last of his dart when they started fighting so he had no more tricks left. Si Ning didn’t have any problem fighting him but the fight was dragging on, he was able to give a few slashes to the guard but was unable to inflict a deep wound.

"Second Master!"

Si Ning took a deep breath of relief when Yi Chen fell beside him breathing hard and loud like he had just run a marathon. "Get rid of him!" He dashed sideways to show he had no more business fighting the guard and when the guard tried to intercept him, his sword collided with Yi Chen’s sword.

"Your opponent is me!" Yi Chen announced.

Si Ning ran through the soldiers but from what he could see it was masses of corpses and at the center of them was Qiu Bai, the hatred Si Ning had for the man that caused the war started to build up but Qiu Bai was with two men that seemed very strong perhaps Commanders or Generals due to their amour that was different from the armours the Xilie’s soldiers wore and the three were in a great battle with Xiu Zhicheng.

Dirty man!

Si Ning became angry as he looked at the ground haphazardly, how dare Qiu Bai play dirty, how dare he touch Xiu Zhicheng, three men on one was a dirty trick, how dare he put Xiu Zhicheng in a position that didn’t make him feel relief after seeing his husband after a long time. Si Ning wasn’t able to spot a single bow that he could use to shoot so he decided to dash into the battle and join Xiu Zhicheng.

Like a feather, Si Ning felt his feet lighter on the ground and all the fatigue he had been feeling washed away, his sole aim to assist his husband who seemed to be having a difficult time fighting the three men who were not even giving him space to breathe. Si Ning ran towards them and when he was close, with the corner of his eyes he saw a large number of arrows flying toward the men fighting and it was as if it was planned because immediately Qiu Bai jumped back, the two men fighting Xiu Zhicheng jumped to the side to use their body to receive the arrows for Qiu Bai because the attack wasn’t pinpointed but a large scale attack which would be impossible to dodge.

Si Ning’s heart slowed down like it was dying knowing there was no way Xiu Zhicheng could block it. "Zhicheng!" He yelled out in alarm, panicked, as his heart squeezed like a rope was tied around it and for the first time in his life, he did something he never thought he could ever do, he placed a life before him because the only way for him to intercept the arrows was to jump to shield Xiu Zhicheng with his body just like how the two men get to shield Qiu Bai.

The moment Xiu Zhicheng heard the familiar voice he had missed so much, the voice he reminisced about before going to sleep, the voice that kept calling to him in his dreams, his eyes widened as he turned just to check if he wasn’t hearing things and he saw his wife jumped forward, he could see the arrows with the corner of his eyes and it was impossible to cut down the arrows with his sword without them getting hit so he dashed forward and caught Si Ning midair then he turned his back to shield Si Ning instead as five arrows pierced his back as they started falling.
