When Xiao Pei and Qiu Bai’s guard began fighting, Si Ning noticed it was no ordinary fight, darts were flying everywhere that Si Ning couldnt keep up with his eyes, he had no idea Xiao Pei had a lot of dart hidden in his sleeve, as darts were flying, daggers were flying too and Si Ning’s eyes widened when he saw Xiao Pei threw a dagger and the guard caught it throwing it back which Xiao Pei dodged then they both moved in a godlike speed and their sword clashed, they were destroying everything but Si Ning ran to Ah Dai side, tying to protect the corpse from the flying woods, porcelains, broken ceramic, flowers, documents that was flying towards them, each time Si Ning had to use his sword to cut the debrise down, it was a war zone but the guard finally got hit by one of Xiao Pei’s dart, Si Ning had no idea if it was a sleeping or poisoned dart but he watched the guard staggered giving Xiao Pei the opportunity to try to cut his chest but the guard turned sideways, his arm colliding with the sword and his skin slashed opened, blood gushing out the guard quickly held his arm. Xiao Pei was ready to inflict more damage but the guard threw two darts at once and he fled through the damaged door.

Si Ning expected Xiao Pei to chase him but he didn’t instead Xiao Pei turned to him and walked over to kneel in front of him. Xiao Pei’s breathing was unstable, his hair drenched in sweat, his chest heaving heavily, his expression bitter as he laid his eyes on the lifeless body in Si Ning’s arm. It was the first time Si Ning saw Xiao Pei wearing an expression other than his impassive look.

"Forgive me General because I have failed you and I am ready to pay General with my life." Xiao Pei said firmly, his eyes showing he was pained as he gritted his teeth, clenching his hand into a fist then he placed his sword with dried blood on the floor right in front of Si Ning.

"It is not your fault." Si Ning replied, he was the one that sent Xiao Pei to the Si residence, Ah Dai turning out as he did wasn’t Xiao Pei’s fault, it was his entire fault.

"General." Xiao Pei called. "When you hear this General you will know I deserve death and I am ready to die but I have to make sure General is safe first." He bowed his head as he spoke.

Si Ning’s hands started to shake badly, his heart beating so fast in his chest when he realized Xiao Pei was talking about something else entirely, the Xiao Pei he knew would have offered to carry or leave Ah Dai’s corpse while they save themselves but for his shoulders to be hung down means something terrible had happened. "Speak."

Xiao Pei raised his head, an unreadable devastated expression on his face. "I have been suspecting some movements of those Xilie spies in the city and it seemed like some mobilized force which is led by the Minister of the Market Union and some other governmental Officials I was unable to find out their identities but I finally found out where they will meet next so I told Jiang Ye to let us penetrate them at the meeting place to find out their identites so we so we could take out their leaders but when we got there, there was no sign of them not knowing that they have sent their minions to attack the Si residence and before me and Jiang Ye arrives at the residence, they had made some damages, they killed most of the servants and guards and Wei was wounded badly from protecting Young Miss Si Nan because from what I heard from Wei they were no ordinary soldiers, they were trained assasins and came with full force, I fought but they kept on coming like water but in order for Young Miss Si Nan to escape, Madam and Jiang Ye stayed behind to fight and Madam told me she will never leave her home that she is their target that as long as she run they will keep on chasing so she sent me to excort Young Miss Si Nan to a safe place so I left but on the road I sent the boy Shi Junhao to take Si Nan to the hideout of the Jiang family which Jiang Xi built in the woods, I explained the path leading to it to him and told him the password to say when he gets to the fork close to the Jiang house territory, he and his sister Shi Zhuxue with Young Miss Si Nan and Yalin ran and I made sure they were safe on the right path before leaving them so I had to run back to the Si residence to find Jiang Ye in a bad shape, Yanyu lifeless and Madam personal guard wounded terribly, when I found Madam in the meeting hall, she was bleeding badly and with a man called Yi Chen who was trying to stop the bleeding and she told me to run to the palace that General is their next target and told to me to protect General and make sure General survive, she told me she loved you and that it is not General’s fault for everything that happened after I and Yi Chen promised her to make sure we will protect you...." He paused.

"Then?" Si Ning asked in a small voice as the fear of what next Xiao Pei would say gripped him. When Xiao Pei was narrating the occurrence, Si Ning’s heart keep skipping a beat and it seemed he was being submerged in dark water but now he was completed immersed in the dark water, the dark fluid like crude oil pouring over his heart, dying it dark and completely covered his heart up.

"Madam died right there." Xiao Pei replied bitterly.

Si Ning had been expecting a tragedy but he never expected it to be his mother. What did he become the Empress for? Why was he chasing so much power? Was it not to protect his family and now he had lost one of them, his mother! He had lost his mother. Si Ning tilted his head up, his tears were already dried, his face flushed, his eyes swollen and just like that the light in his eyes got extinguished, his eyes blank holding a large amount of sorrow that he had no way to express.

His mother was dead. Dead, gone.

"Second Master?" A man walked in. "I am Yi Chen."

Si Ning’s eyes had turned lifeless as he lowered his head to see Yi Chen, the green wild tiger come to kneel in front of him next to Xiao Pei.

I was careless not to quickly find out what Ge Liang was planning which lead to my Master joining her mother and father in the afterlife and here." Yi Chen removed the bow he was carrying. "My Master told me Second Master is ranked as the number one archer in the whole of Xiu, here is my Master bow and these arrows are now yours." He said as he placed a sack of arrows on the floor.

"Elder brother." Concubine Liu MingXia came in through the window, she was dressed in a man’s attire, a blooded sword at hand, her face stained with blood as she crouched. "Elder brother the Palace is not safe anymore, When I found Princess Liu Ting she was gasping and grabbing her chest, I tried to save her but she died, We can’t find the Queen Dowager, Concubine Ran, and the second Prince but Concubine Ling is safe with the Crown Prince , I kept them waiting under the stairs of the east gate so we have to go now!" She reported.

Liu MingXia’s serious expression was something Si Ning never imagined nor expected but he couldn’t reply because he was now numb to the world, a world that gave him a massive amount of pain in a day.

"General we have to leave with the Crown Prince and meet with your reserved forced which is on the way then find a way to take the palace back." Xiao Pei explained the next course of action to be taken.

"We have to go now before more of them come." Liu MingXia said.

Si Ning was unable to cry, it was still registering in his head that his mother had passed away, he was just sitting there not responding but he could hear what they were all saying, seeing he was unwilling to stand up forced Xiao Pei to pull him up from his sitting position separating him from Ah Dai body that now laid in the pool of semi-dried blood. Si Ning felt like he was floating as they dragged him to the window, some guards outside were even ready to catch him when they saw his lifeless eyes which made him appear like a boy that needed protection but just like that Si Ning regained his consciousness that he suddenly yanked his hand from Xiao Pei’s hold.
