Someone unknown was in his room yet Si Ning wasn’t panicking, it was still surprising to him that he could act calm without screaming his head off running away, or trying to attack them before they could attack him, it seemed he had been living in a General body for so long he was now used to it that his hand wasn’t even shaking even though he was holding just a hairpin. A hairpin so short a sword would do damage first if it was a head-on straight attack.

"His Majesty Qiu Bai sent me to deliver a message to General Si Ning." An unknown deep voice said.

What?

"What?" Blood rushed to Si Ning’s head because he couldn’t believe the person just mentioned Qiu Bai, it seemed his suspicion about a spy or two in his palace was right and this person right here could be one of the guards or servants in his palace, it was a voice he had never heard.

"The message is ’We are everywhere. Xiu will end. We have penetrated Xiu to her rotten core and I will give you the grace to join me’." He ended his message. "I am here for a reply."

"Eh?" Si Ning couldn’t believe this was happening, he couldn’t believe his ears. Xiu being rotten to the core? Giving the grace to join? who did Qiu Bai think he was to give him that option! Or give him an option at all! How dare he!

The powerful merciless Emperor of Xilie.

A small voice reminded Si Ning of who Qiu Bai was but Si Ning doesn’t think Qiu Bai being the Emperor of Xilie made his country more stronger than Xiu or make him even stronger than Xiu Zhicheng. Si Ning had never seen Xiu Zhicheng fight but without Qiu Bai playing dirty he was going to bet on Xiu Zhicheng that if the two Emperors fight with a sword, Xiu Zhicheng was going to win.

"We will give General Si Ning the advice not to refuse his Majesty because his Majesty does not take no for an answer." A hint of suggestion laced with a warning was laid behind the deep voice.

The way they talk, not coming out of the shadows means they want to remain hidden so Si Ning didn’t pursue asking them who they were again luckily they stepped out of the shadow and Si Ning came face to face with a familiar face, a face that made Si Ning’s eyes widened that it was almost perfectly round.

The familiar face! The Guard!

Si Ning couldn’t believe he was facing out of all people it was Qiu Bai’s guard, how was he able to enter the room? How come none of his guards know about his room being compromised not even Xiao Pei.

Without a reply, Si Ning waited a bit maybe Xiao Pei would enter but everywhere was quiet it was just him and the guard and deep down Si Ning knew no one was coming so he had no choice but to give the guard a reply.

Si Ning lowered his hairpin, he knew the guard won’t attack him because he was needed so he sat down on his bed, he doesn’t want to join Xilie but he doesn’t know what would happen if he says no, saying no might lead to the guard bringing out his sword to attack him because he clearly advised him not to refuse Qiu Bai’s term and to attack him might be based on the other orders Qiu Bai might have given him in a case that the Empress of Xilie refused to join them.

"I will give his Majesty Qiu Bai a reply in three days." Si Ning said his usual phrase to escape a tight situation, he turned to the guard to see that his message was passed across then he turned to face his front when his heart made a loud thump sound only for him to turn sharply again, almost immediately because he felt the presence behind him disappeared and he was right, the guard wasn’t there anymore.

It almost seemed like what transpired between them was an illusion but the hairpin Si Ning was holding was real and he could differentiate between real and dream. Si Ning felt all his effort with the Minister of Defense and the Imperial Tutor gone to waste because Xilie didn’t only penetrate Zhonghua but penetrated the palace, his own palace, an Empress Palace!

What? A whole Empress and General palace!

Si Ning stood up when he just realised that his palace was just penetrated just like that, what of the Si residence? "Xiao Pei!" He yelled.

Xiao Pei rushed into the room almost immediately. "General."

Si Ning took a long look at Xiao Pei only to see his guard was just like he had always been except his eyes seemed a bit dull. "Did you see anybody suspicious?" He asked.

"No General, the perimeter is clear." Xiao Pei replied almost in a sluggish way.

How did Qiu Bai’s guard get in? How did it happen? Si Ning couldn’t help but wonder that someone helped the guard and Xiao Pei not knowing was odd, Si Ning remembered when he took Xiu Junjie out but Xiao Pei was there to watch out for them making their sneaking exit and entrance to the palace easy. At that moment Si Ning felt alone because there was no way someone could truly know another person. He doesn’t know whether to trust Xiao Pei or not. The only person he placed his trust in was Ah Dai, but with one arm it was only little he could do, then Xiao Pei being Xiu TianZhao’s former guard and Xiu TianZhao being fond of him means Xiao Pei would protect him but someone entering without Xiao Pei’s knowledge was weird.

"General, did something happen? I am always alert when sleeping but I dozed off in my sleep a bit unconsciously, it has never happened and I think someone used the scent of peril on me." Xiao Pei said as he glanced around suspiciously.

"Scent of peril?" Si Ning raised a brow it was quite odd that Xiao Pei was sounding slower than usual.

"Yes General the scent of peril sharp smell which sends a person into a vegetable state bu...." Xiao Pei stopped suddenly.

Before Si Ning could say a word or ask why Xiao Pei’s eyes immediately turned sharp, Xiao Pei ran and jumped out of the window like a ninja. Si Ning didn’t even hear footsteps but he could tell Xiao Pei was probably miles away, he was confused but waited only for a small bell to ring and the whole house woke up immediately.

The sudden bell made Si Ning stand up alert listening to the rushing outside that was accompanied by some yelling, he had no idea if it was Xiao Pei or if Qiu Bai’s guard was finally spotted and being chased because it seemed guards were running around outside.

"Young Master! Young Master!! Young Master!!!"

"Tsk." Si Ning clicked his tongue when he heard Ah Dai yelling outside, his voice getting louder as he got closer.

"Young Master...." Ah Dai rushed in, his face stained with tears, he ran and knelt, his two hands holding Si Ning’s hand. "Thank heavens you are safe." He said watching Si Ning and glancing to check if his Master was really okay.

"Your Majesty!!!" Yang Sheng also entered carrying a lantern, he was out of breath, breathing hard to show he had been running.

Si Ning took his seat and placed a hand on Ah Dai’s head. "I am okay, you can leave now I want to sleep." He said firmly after some time as he removed his hands from Ah Dai’s hold, he purposely looked away just to make sure he doesn’t see Ah Dai’s sad expression.

"Do Young Master need anything?" Ah Dai asked gently as he sniffed.

Si Ning shook his head and waited, he could see Yang Sheng pull Ah Dai up and for the first time Ah Dai left without uttering a complaint but that was after he checked the room to see that nothing was amiss.

"There is no one suspicious on the premises." Xiao Pei came in through the door immediately Ah Dai and Yang Sheng left. "General who was it that showed up, if you tell me General I will bring their head to you before morning." He vowed, his eyes shining red just to show he was annoyed someone drugged him in his sleep.

Si Ning closed his eyes to think, tapping the bed as he tried to focus. "Xiao Pei go to the Si residence and your new task is to protect Si Nan, tell Jiang Ye to protect my mother." He opened his eyes.

"What about you? General." Xiao Pei asked.

As a General which Qiu Bai needs Si Ning knew he won’t be targeted so he was safe but he wasn’t so sure about his family.

"I may be the Empress but I am still a General." Si Ning said to convince Xiao Pei. "I will be safe, make sure Ah Dai go to sleep." He said.

"Yes, General but I need to check the room."

Si Ning didn’t hear what Xiao Pei said but he nodded, he wondered if he was going to get any sleep, he was about to lay on his bed only to see Xiao Pei inspecting the room and when he was done, he saluted him and went out. Si Ning was now alone so he lay on his bed and took a deep breath knowing deep down his thoughts were going to keep him awake.
