Chapter 94: THE END

"I found out after meeting your mother for the second time that your name is Annabelle," my father said after we settled in the living room.

Zeke had already gone to bed with most of the guests. Everywhere was quiet, and Zach’s arms were wrapped around me, just as Zion’s arms were wrapped around Elisa.

Light was melting in Gaius’s arms. With someone as strong as him, it looked like a storm blending with a soft light. Something extraordinary.

"I felt a bond that you are my father," I forced a smile. "I needed you so much, but now I have Zach," I said honestly, his head lowered. "All my life, I hated her for not telling me she was a vampire. I..." he choked on tears.

"I even told her to get rid of you, but at the sight of you, I got healed, and it’s all because of your wolf. A dire wolf," he said with regret.

My father is a middle-aged man, still good-looking, with features resembling Thaddeus, his nephew. He looked kind, but after hearing his words, he didn’t seem so.

"No wonder mom never talked about you. You were alive, and yet you made her suffer," I accused him, his head lowered again in shame. "I wasn’t ready to risk it, but I should have followed the design of fate. The moment I told her to abort you, I fell ill and was bedridden for over eighteen years.

I looked for her but could not find her until she reached out seeking help. When I heard you were alive, strength entered my bones for the first time, and that was how I was able to sit in a wheelchair," his voice cracked.

"But seeing you this close, I’m able to walk. Look, it’s too late for me to offer you anything, though I wished for you to lead the Lycans. All I seek is your forgiveness."

The worst thing was what Zach did to me, and if I could forgive that, then why not? It wasn’t as if I was going to live with him anyway, and besides, I didn’t want to carry the load of unforgiveness in my heart. "I have nothing against you. Settle your scores with my mother."

"I have tried, and I hope you can convince her," my father said, referring to my mother, who looked disinterested in the whole conversation.

"Your brother is doing a good job as the Lycan king, and his son will take over from you. Annabelle has a life already. A mate, a tribe, and a son, having no need for either of us."

For some reason, I felt like what she was saying was not going to be good. "Mom, I still need you."

"No, you don’t," she cut in. "You weren’t there when I needed you, and now, I don’t need you," she said to her former mate, my dad.

"We can start over. My brother is ready to give me back my position, and you will be my Luna. Thaddeus will take over from us so we don’t have to have more kids if you don’t want to," he pleaded with tears in his eyes, but I was concerned about my mother.

Her plans were unknown to anyone, including me. "I don’t want all that, Joe. My only desire is to see and feel the sunlight."

"No," I yelled, but she was already up the stairs. No one had her speed except Zeke, and that was the only thing I missed about being a vampire.

My father looked sorrowful, but now, I hated him. Due to the pain he caused her, my mother had no desire to live. "It’s all your fault. You have your healing. Now you can go," I said angrily, he stared pleadingly at me.

"Please help me beg her, Annabelle. She will die if she feels the sun, and you know it."

The mere sound of his voice angered me, including everything about his being. "Just stay away from me."

Throughout that night, I couldn’t sleep, and neither did Zach. He came to comfort me but spoke no words, which was rather strange.

"Have you known about this all along?" My question caused something to flash in his eyes, but there was no sign of remorse.

"I’m glad you were a chimera. Vampires are vengeful and unforgiving. Perhaps your never liking your vampire DNA was the reason you easily forgave me."

He got that wrong. "The only reason I forgave you was that you were under the influence of a spell," I clarified. "Oh, that," he mused and went mute, but I pressed him.

"You know something. Tell me. You talked a lot with my mom," I insisted. He smiled and wrapped his arms around me.

"She’s been talking about seeing and feeling the sunrise for a long time. I tried to discourage her, but it never worked, so I’m sorry."

So that was the reason why he was so sober that night when he arrived with my mother.

"I will talk to her," I said seriously, knowing that vampires don’t sleep. However, as much as I knocked on her door, she refused to answer.

I didn’t give up and waited for her on the balcony where she would be able to see the sunrise and also feel the subtle heat.

Lo and behold, she arrived just before the rising of the sun, and so did my dad. Mom carried a chair with her and sat facing the sun.

No matter what anyone said, she never spoke a word, only smiling as the sun rose from the horizon.

With that peaceful smile, I found it unnecessary to derail her from her plan. "It’s beautiful," I said. She nodded. "I’ve only seen it in books and from indoors. This is life. The way it should be. Enjoy your life, Belle, it’s the reason I went through so much to birth you among werewolves. They are violent but also the best lovers."

Tears streamed down my cheek as Zach kissed the top of my head. "I know, mom, you sacrificed everything for me, and I’m grateful. Thank you so much for being my mother. I couldn’t have gotten a better one."

I embraced her, and she embraced me back. It felt warm, peaceful, and surreal. All my fears seemed like they were being washed away, but when I turned to the side, Zeke was standing there, pointing at something with fear in his eyes that made me cringe.

In a moment of peace and tranquility, no one noticed when trouble knocked on the door. Mom was burning to ash as if dissolving to dust. It was too late to save Zeke from the trauma or try to save mom.

Any movement from either of us would only hasten the process, so my arms wrapped around her as she completely dissolved in my arms. What I would never forget was the smile on her face.

My father’s sobs were uncontrollable, but that was the price he had to pay for rejecting his mate. Zach was lucky to have a second chance because he realized his mistake early.

Given that he wasted even a little time, or hadn’t been under the influence of a spell, a second chance between us would have been impossible.

Zach embraced Zeke tightly and whispered, "it’s her wish, Zeke, and besides, she’s happy, and that’s all that matters."

His words not only calmed Zeke but also me. Mom would have lived to enjoy the life we wanted to give her, but she didn’t want her life anymore.

Dad left with his brother, Thaddeus, and Curtis, and I didn’t hear about them again, but in actual fact, I didn’t care.

A month later, we went for Zion and Elisa’s coronation. It was successful with splendor. The twin Alphas, Zach and Zion, remained inseparable. Not even the borders of their tribes could stop them from traveling to see each other.

As for Gaius and Madai, they became best friends to the strongest Alphas, and my relationship with Light grew, just as Elisa and Apphia.

For the first time, I had a family, and it was a very beautiful thing.

Zeke never stopped growing and maturing, but I already knew that very soon, his physical development would halt, giving way to only mental maturity.

My life was perfect until I woke up sick a month later. Zach looked at me and smiled. "You are pregnant."

"What?" I was stunned but also excited. "Yes, you are pregnant, so get ready to be spoiled," he said, lifting me into his arms and kissing me on the lips.

This is my story. With a bitter beginning but a perfect ending. Those who looked down on me before are now looking up to me.

My family will continue to grow, and we shall remain strong, especially with this plus one on the way.

For now, let me enjoy the best things life has to offer without fear or panic because, as you all know, I deserve it. So goodbye and wishing you all the best in life.

THE END.
