Chapter 59: Who leaves? (Annabelle)
The woman beneath him quickly covered herself with the duvet and glared angrily at me. "Who are you and how dare you show your face in Z’s room?" Despite hearing rumors about Zion being a womanizer, I had never seen him with a woman and now wondered if he always kept it hidden from me.
"Bella, if it’s important, please go to your room first. I will come and talk to you," he said.
My heart burned momentarily before turning cold. I knew I wanted him, but he had just tarnished his reputation.
Gathering my composure, I fought back tears and forced a smile. "It’s alright, Alpha Zion, it’s nothing important. I heard you were back and came to check on you."
I turned towards the door after catching a glimpse of his dark gaze. Was it because I addressed him as Alpha? "Bella, stop there," he roared, and I froze as I heard his footsteps approaching.
"I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight. Meet Elisa, my mate." His words caused my body to freeze. He found his mate? My world shattered, but I put on a strong countenance and turned to face him.
Unlike before, he was covered in a towel robe, which made it easier to talk to him. "Congratulations," I said with a heavy heart before rushing out of the room.
The moment I reached mine, the tears I held for so long began to pour. Perhaps it was my fault. He gave me a chance, but I rejected him. I should have told him a long time ago, but I thought he would always be there for me.
It hurt so much, and yet, my wolf, who was supposed to comfort me, remained silent. Hearing a knock on my door, I quickly wiped my tears and reached for it.
Seeing him, I tried to close it, but he was too fast, blocking it with his knee. Without a word, he gathered me into his arms. That feeling of safety overtook me, but I knew his warmth was no longer mine and quickly pulled away.
"It’s not appropriate for you to be here," I pointed out, covering myself with the silky robe, but he reached for my hand, filling me with his warmth.
"Bella, nothing changes between us. I will always love and treat you as a sister." Tears streamed down my face as I uttered, "A sister," amidst sobs, and he looked at me with a puzzled expression. "You don’t want me, so why do I feel like you’re jealous?"
Through clenched teeth, I confessed, "I’m not envious, but I love you, Zion. I came to tell you, but I realize I waited too long."
Shock flashed in his eyes. "I’m truly sorry, but when you rejected me, I took it to heart. Please forgive me, Bella, but I’ve found my mate now, and you need to accept that."
Nodding in understanding, I acknowledged his point. The mate bond was unbreakable, but his next words ignited a spark of anger within me. "Moreover, you belong to my twin brother."
Pushing him away and creating a distance between us, I unleashed my frustration. "I belong to no one, and if you’re tired of my presence, then I’ll leave. Alpha Zach and I are sworn enemies. I’d rather be with Draven than him."
His fists clenched, and without a word, he exited my room. The following days were challenging. A new member had joined the tribe, constantly seeking Zion’s attention, despite his efforts to balance his time with her and caring for Zeke.
Nevertheless, he continued to assist me in looking after Zeke, providing the only moments we had to converse. During one of those days, he dropped a bombshell. "Elisa’s Luna coronation will be in two weeks."
It wasn’t just me; both Madai and Apphia also seemed to dislike her. "Alpha, you haven’t mated and marked her yet," Madai pointed out. I took the chance to glance at their necks before realizing it was true.
That day in Zion’s room, they were entwined in each other’s arms, sharing a passionate moment. Did this mean they hadn’t consummated their relationship?
"It doesn’t matter. Elisa is my mate, and that is final." He rose up angrily and left the table, but that was when Elisa’s angry gaze landed on me.
"It’s all because of you. Ever since you interrupted us, he hasn’t been intimate with me." She smiled evilly. "As soon as I become Luna, you and your pup will not have a place here."
I wanted to respond, but something held me back. She was indeed the future Luna and would have the power to decide who stayed and who left.
After Zion left the table that day, I never saw him again and I tried as much as possible to avoid his mate as well. Even when he went to see Zeke, he made sure I wasn’t there.
But the next day, Zeke had misbehaved. I was in a deep sleep when I heard wailing from downstairs. It reminded me that Zeke had never shed a tear since the early days when we were figuring out what he liked to eat.
I rushed downstairs and saw Zion pacing back and forth while Elisa, with tears in her eyes, smiled wickedly.
"Z, that pup isn’t one of us. I saw it shift into a Lycan. If you don’t let him and his mother go, I will inform all the tribes," Elisa said.
I froze in my steps until Apphia intervened. "Alpha, Zeke is very young, and you are his only fatherly figure. If Elisa saw him shift, then what was she doing in his room? Besides, no one shifts indoors."
She had a valid point, but Zeke was a child who didn’t know the rules, and he was also a special child.
"I just went to check on him," Elisa suddenly replied. She added, "My mate’s nephew is my pup too, right?"
Something must have happened, but with no cameras in Zeke’s room, I couldn’t tell, and Zeke wasn’t speaking yet.
"If you see him and love him as a son, then you wouldn’t want him and his mother to be sent away," Beta Madai pointed out. Elisa hung her head in shame.
Due to her being Zion’s mate, I was hesitant to do anything that would betray my feelings for him, although I was gradually overcoming them.
"It’s for the safety of the tribe," Elisa murmured. "A young Lycan will grow up to be a dangerous one, posing a great threat."
Once again, she was right, although her actions seemed to be directed at me. Reluctantly, I agreed, "Okay, just give me a few days, I will find a place to take my pup." Zion’s anger flared as he glared at me.
"Who are you to decide? Have I lost my authority as the Alpha to she-wolves?" he questioned.
Confusion filled the room, and silence lingered. "I knew something like this would happen. Bella, you stole my heart in the beginning but refused to be mine," Zion expressed, his words heavy.
Guilt washed over me, but he turned to Elisa as if he had never addressed me. "And you, Elisa, are my mate, yet you don’t trust me even a little."
Our collective guilt hung heavy in the air, and before Elisa could respond, Zion interjected, "There is only one solution. Both of you cannot live in this packhouse, so who will leave?"
