Chapter 58: Bella, what are you doing here? (Annabelle)
Before I could question him, he abruptly turned and left. Days went by without his return, and everything seemed to be going smoothly until the seventh day when I overheard the maids gossiping.
"Alpha must be exhausted. It’s unusual for him not to visit Bella."
"That’s absurd. He..." another maid started to say, but I accidentally knocked over a vase, causing a commotion.
"Miss Bella," one of them said as they hurried away. Zion had returned, yet he hadn’t come to see me. I longed for his presence, but I had a sinking feeling that May would be the one to be dismissed.
Today, I planned to confess my love to Zion and have him mark me, solidifying my she-wolf identity. I returned to my room, donned my sexiest lingerie, and covered it with a silk robe.
Summoning my courage, I stood in front of his door, the only ro Apphia’s mention of my pup caused me to rush to the pack house. May and Sai kept singing the ’I told you so’ song, but I tried to be brave, mind linking Zion.
’Something is wrong with Zeke. Can you come?’
His response was swift. ’I’m already there.’ The mindlink ended before I could ask about what the problem was, but upon reaching the pack house, I was stunned to see Abbia’s face covered in blood.
"What’s going on?" I asked worriedly, rushing to the side of Zeke, who was in Zion’s arms.
"What happened?" I asked. Zion was staring down coldly at Abbia. "Now you can talk."
"Doesn’t she need a doctor?" I asked. Zion shook his head. "There’s no need for a doctor because she’s going to die."
"What happened?" I asked again. One of the maids came to explain. "Bella, this nanny was mixing something with Zeke’s food. I saw it and informed Alpha, but she denied it.
When she tried feeding it to the pup, he pulled her star necklace and stabbed her in the eyes with it. Alpha told her to eat the baby food, but she intentionally poured it away, lying that it was an accident."
So, this nanny dared to poison my pup? For a moment, I had forgotten that he was born in Lycan form and that made him the first pup to shift.
Zeke also had his wolf, just like me, so they must have been the ones who triggered him to defend himself.
Any mother would be upset to have her pup targeted, and remembering what happened to me at the Crimson Moon tribe, I was curious and asked, "Who sent you?"
"Even if I confess, I will still face death, so go ahead and kill me. We don’t confess, and we don’t fear death," she responded defiantly. I could tell she was a witch.
"You don’t confess because you are a witch, right?" Having encountered individuals like Kari before, I could recognize their kind. Squatting before her, I locked eyes with her and issued a threat,
"We won’t kill you, but one of our tribe members has developed an elixir that can strip you of your wolf and witch abilities. You will live as a mere human. So, are you going to cooperate, or should we render you powerless to be toyed with by rogues?"
I had a nagging feeling that her confession could reveal something about Iris and Ivy, but she remained defiant. "I will never let you have your way," she growled, pulling out a dagger from her pocket.
Before I could overpower her, she plunged the dagger into her heart with an evil laugh. "This pup must not live, and we shall never allow you to marry Alpha Zach."
I scoffed at her words before she passed away. "My pup will live, but as for Alpha Zach, I don’t want him."
"She’s dead," one of the warriors stationed at the pack house informed us. Zion looked at me with regret.
"We should rely on the maids to assist us when we are overwhelmed with work. We will no longer allow any outsiders into the tribe territories," he suggested.
His resolution was acceptable, so I agreed. "Thank you, Zion."
His smile always had a way of melting my heart, and as the days passed, I devoted more attention to my pup, watching him grow. Often, I would find him standing on two legs instead of crawling, holding onto furniture and moving around on his own. It was heartwarming, but I knew that most of this behavior needed to be kept hidden from the other tribe members.
All they knew was that I was one of them, and during training sessions, I always displayed my wolf form. Due to tribe rules, I was not allowed to shift into my Lycan form.
It pained May, but she understood that we were in werewolf territory. Eventually, I will come to terms with my Lycan side and leave this tribe, but only after clearing my name.
It wouldn’t be honorable to leave without first earning respect, so I intend to ensure that my pup grows into the man I want him to be before parting ways with my wolf.
After taking a shower, I went to put Zeke to bed, but Zion was already there, reading him bedtime stories, so I joined them.
When he finished, he looked at me with affection and said, "Bella, this is your home. I hope you realize that." I had a sense that something was amiss.
"Zion, I’ve always known this, but I’m wondering if you’re still interested in the idea of marriage," I inquired. He tensed momentarily, but then a smile crossed his face.
"Bella, if you think this is a way of repaying my kindness, please don’t. My family owes you, so never feel indebted to me or anyone," he said earnestly. I smiled and reached for his hand.
"It’s not about that." I gazed into his eyes, preparing to express my true feelings when his gaze shifted. I patiently waited for the mindlink to end, and as soon as it did, he stood up.
"Bella, I need to leave for a few days. Please assist Madai in looking after the tribe." Concern crept in as I embraced him. "But where are you going? Can’t I accompany you? Zeke isn’t nursing, and with Apphia here, he’ll be safe."
For once, I longed to join him on his adventures, but he gently pulled away and offered me a strained smile. "Thank you, Bella, but this is something I must do alone."
Before I could question him, he abruptly turned and left. Days went by without his return, and everything seemed to be going smoothly until the seventh day when I overheard the maids gossiping.

Summoning my courage, I stood in front of his door, the only room I had never entered despite living here for over a year. Without knocking, I turned the knob and pushed the door open, only to be met with a shocking sight.
"Bella, what are you doing here?" Zion’s voice was laced with anger, extinguishing my enthusiasm.
