Chapter 45: I want to help (Annabelle)
I wasn’t expecting to survive, but somehow I did. My energy quickly returned, leaving me curious about what Alpha Zion and Dina had done to facilitate my rapid recovery. Apphia then arrived with food, causing my stomach to rumble instantly.
However, upon tasting the food, my stomach churned, and I hurried to the bin to empty its contents. "Don’t you like the food? I made it myself," she said with remorse, her worry evident. I reassured her that it wasn’t her fault.
Lately, I had been craving carrots and red foods. "I’m sorry. It might be my cravings. If you could make something with carrots, beets, or red grapes, I would appreciate it," I told her. She looked at me strangely before agreeing. "I’ll make you a carrot cake."
After she left, Dina gave me some herbs to drink, and then Alpha Zion approached me with a smile on his face. Warmth filled my heart as he took my hand in his. "Bella, there is something important you need to know."
Unease replaced the warmth, but I calmed myself. "Anything, Alpha Zion. Out with it. You know I can handle it."
He smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. Dina, the middle-aged woman, left her hut, leaving us alone.
Alpha Zion’s fingers intertwined with mine. "Call me Zion, Bella."
Disappointment washed over me as I had thought he was going to share something crucial. Despite my initial reluctance, after all he had done for me, I now saw him more as a friend than just an Alpha, not caring if his kindness was due to my saving Alpha Zach.
"If you insist, then I have no choice," I agreed, and he smiled. This time, it seemed genuine, but it was clear he had more to say.
"I promise you will be safer at the pack house."
Although I was hesitant to be so close to him, the fear instilled in me by my experiences at the house he provided outweighed my reservations. "Thank you."
Surprise flickered across his face, likely not expecting my compliance. What he didn’t realize was that, for the sake of my pup, I would do anything to ensure our safety, even if it meant marrying Alpha Zion.
After all, the man I was waiting for turned out to be an asshole, but my only fear remained in Alpha Zion finding his mate. From all I heard about the mate bond, he might end up resenting me if his mate shows up.
As such, I shielded whatever I was beginning to feel for him. "Since you look fine, I will go take care of some tribe matters, but I will be back to take you to the packhouse myself," he assured me. I nodded.
Falling back to sleep due to all the herbs, I woke up to the aroma of freshly baked carrot cake and red grape juice.
Grape production was very prevalent in this tribe, so I wasn’t surprised, but the calmness that overtook me after tasting the red grape juice was the most fulfilling.
In no time, I had not only finished eating the medium-sized cake but also emptied the full glass of juice.
The Lunar Echoes Tribe has been the best part of my life and the only place where I ever got to eat good food like this or the things I wanted. If you need anything else, please let me know," Apphia said excitedly. "I’m glad my efforts weren’t in vain. This is my first time baking a carrot cake, but your appreciation of it makes it all worth it."
"Well, who can resist good food?" I shrugged. She laughed, and we chatted until Alpha Zion arrived with Beta Madai.
"Are you ready to go home?" His soft voice rang from the entrance, filling my heart with joy due to my excitement to explore the pack house.
"More than anything else," I replied. His hand extended to me as he hastened towards me. "Trust me, you won’t regret it."
After all he had done for me, I was certain that I would not regret it. However, what I didn’t expect was the room he gave me when we arrived at the pack house.
"Alpha, are you sure about this?" Beta Madai asked, and I agreed with him. "No, he’s kidding. Show me to one of the servant rooms."
Even the servant room here would be far better than the places I lived as an omega, but Alpha Zion’s gaze darkened.
"Are you defying my orders?" he questioned.
"You are serious," I asserted, noticing his cold expression. "How else can I protect you if you live far from me?"
He had a point, but I didn’t understand why he was upset with my suggestion of living in the maid’s chamber. The Luna’s chamber didn’t seem like the right room for me.
The expressions on Apphia and Beta Madai’s faces confirmed my unease, but Alpha Zion quickly offered a solution.
"If I happen to find my mate, she will be with me in my room."
Relief washed over all of us, but a mix of fear and unease lingered in my heart at the mention of his mate. Despite this, all I could do was smile and say,
"Then thank you."
The coldness in his eyes melted as he opened the door for me, revealing my favorite colors of peach and orange once again. Seeing my stunned expression, he explained without prompting,
"I noticed you liked the colors at the small house, so I had adjustments made for you."
How considerate of him to do all this, and no matter how much I pondered, I couldn’t think of a perfect way to repay him for all the good he had done for me.
"One day, Alpha Zion, just one day, I will find a way to repay you for all your kindness," I said sincerely, but he gently held my hand and gazed into my eyes. His lips moved, but before he could speak, his eyes rolled back.
After he finished the mind link, he looked apologetically at me. "Something just came up."
Worry filled my heart because of my determination to be his greatest support. "What is it? Alpha Zion, I want to help."
