Chapter 42: Too ruthless (Gamma Reid)

Decades ago, I met Kari at the coven. She had grown up there but somehow managed to infiltrate most of the packs, except for the Luna Echoes tribe, where she was prohibited from entering by the coven grand witch.

It was all part of the plan for her not to encounter Alpha Zach until the right time.

Despite being a former member of the Lunar Echoes tribe, I had severed my ties with the coven long ago. Our original intention was to establish dominance over the tribes with our superiors, but with a formidable Alpha like Zafar, the father of Alpha Zach and Zion, it proved to be a challenging task.

Exploiting his quest for immortality, we attempted to eliminate Alpha Zion and Zach by sending a serpent to attack them, but the snake only managed to bite Alpha Zach before being apprehended.

The snake was one of our strongest assassins and was not supposed to be killed, but Alpha Zach killed it after being bitten by it. We were relieved that he would die from its poison, giving us the opportunity to eliminate Alpha Zion as well.

If both of them died, there would be an open battle for the warriors, allowing us to compete.

With the coven’s support, I could have used its power to win, but then a red-haired girl appeared out of nowhere with Alpha Zach’s unconscious body, determined to obtain the elixir only the grand witch possessed.

Despite our attempts to drive her away, she knelt before the coven. We tried to deter her with rain, harsh sun, and even snow, but she remained on her knees, enduring hunger and cold without relieving herself for seven days.

Her unwavering determination frightened us, and due to the price paid, we had to give her the elixir.

After the grand witch declared that she and Zach were destined for great things and would destroy evil together, we devised a plan to kill her. However, we never saw her again until now.

When I witnessed Annabelle’s strength, I had a feeling she might be the one, but she refused to let us draw her blood for confirmation. Her hair was blonde, but if Kari could dye her red hair black, why couldn’t Annabelle dye her red hair blonde?

Her survival posed a significant threat, but what troubled me more was Kari falling in love with Alpha Zach.

I feared she wouldn’t be able to kill him after becoming his Luna. So, I deceived her into mating with me, and she agreed, perhaps due to the bond or her desperation for Alpha Zach.

Even if she betrayed me, my pup would still become the Alpha. I couldn’t explain how Alpha Zach discovered the truth but I wasn’t afraid to die, knowing there were others on the mission to end the werewolf race.

However, the thought of him extracting the truth from Kari terrified me.

If he knew, our plans would crumble one by one. "She will never tell you," I shouted, but Alpha Zach remained silent, his eyes rolling back.

He had prevented me from mind-linking Kari to give her a hint, which would have led her to hate me, thinking I didn’t follow the plan, and that pained me.

No one desired to be the Alpha of the werewolves; instead, they aimed to rule the entire world, where all species, including werewolves, vampires, witches, or Lycans, would bow to them. However, our plans were now failing.

The number of players involved was significant, but Alpha Zach seemed to have figured it out without our knowledge. Could it be Gaius who also figured it out?

That beta had been acting strangely, and I was eager to meet his wolf, although it didn’t meet my expectations. He was also the only one resistant to the portions we sneaked into his drink and food.

There was no reason to be concerned about his wolf, but Alpha Zach was revealing his evil side to me.

We had manipulated his potion ingredients and switched what Kari had given Annabelle with black magic, but the outcome was unexpected.

Perhaps the brazen bull would have been a better option than this. The room was filled with carnivorous mice that Alpha Zach had specifically trained himself.

As soon as the door opened, I wished to remain hanging where I was, but the chain was being lowered.

Initially, I wanted to get back on my feet, but now I didn’t. Those mice not only had the worst bites but also enjoyed playing with their food.

They had been used on criminals in the past when the brazen bull was considered old-fashioned. Whenever Alpha Zach wanted to give someone a public, painful, and shameful death, that was what he used.

In situations like mine, especially here in the quiet room, such things as the mice were expected.

Midway, the chains loosened, and I fell face down. The mice feasted on my manhood, eyes, nose, mouth, and ears first. The pain was excruciating, but I knew that my screams of agony would never be heard.

This room was soundproof, hence why it was known as the quiet room. Before long, my tongue was painfully devoured, rendering me unable to even scream anymore, as the overwhelming pain consumed me.

I longed for death, but the mice were not making it easy for it to come. Then, I heard Alpha Zach’s voice.

"I had Gaius set you up to taste your own bitter pill. Your skeleton will be the only thing revealed to the tribe, with the accusation that you stole my signet ring."

As the door closed, I realized he had left me with these carnivorous mice, and I couldn’t determine which pain was more excruciating. Was it the loss of my dignity and being condemned to die as a criminal, the agony of not being able to confess the truth to my mate, or the torment of my current suffering?

Before long, everything came to an end. In my next life, I will ensure not to cross paths with someone like Alpha Zach. He is too ruthless.
