Chapter 72: There’s a problem with his persona, Suho becomes normal?
The drive home was filled with quiet laughter and gentle glances, both of them stealing looks as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the world in soft twilight.
The comfortable silence wrapped around them, a sense of peace lingering in the car as they headed back.
When they reached the apartment, Yeongsoo was already opening the car door for him, offering a hand as Haeun stepped out. They walked inside, Haeun swaying a little from tiredness, and Yeongsoo couldn’t help but smile, guiding him with gently.
As they reached the doorway, Haeun lazily attempted to kick off his shoes, but Yeongsoo knelt down to help, carefully placing Haeun’s slippers nearby. "Here," he murmured, sliding them onto Haeun’s feet, his hands lingering for a second before he straightened up. Haeun looked down, surprised but warm, feeling a blush rise to his cheeks.
Inside, the coziness of home greeted them, and Haeun felt his shoulders relax and felt even more tired, the day’s events settling in. He stretched a little, only to feel Yeongsoo’s hand at his back, guiding him towards the bedroom. "Come on, you need to get some rest," Yeongsoo murmured, his voice low which made Haeun’s back tingle.
Yeongsoo moved with ease, pulling Haeun’s jacket from his shoulders, unwrapping the scarf he’d tucked on earlier. Each touch was gentle, careful, and Haeun watched with a soft gaze as Yeongsoo moved, folding his clothes and setting them aside. He felt a strange warmth bloom in his chest, watching how thoughtful and precise Yeongsoo was with every motion.
When they finally made it to the bed, Haeun climbed in, his eyelids growing heavy, yet his gaze stayed fixed on Yeongsoo. Just as Yeongsoo turned to leave, Haeun reached out, fingers lightly catching his hand.
"Stay a little longer?" he whispered.
Yeongsoo’s expression softened, and he nodded, sitting down beside him. He couldn’t stop himself from reaching out, gently pulling Haeun into his arms, resting his chin atop Haeun’s head. "You really are something else, you know that?" he whispered with a light chuckle, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on Haeun’s shoulder.
Haeun snuggled closer, feeling the comfort of Yeongsoo’s warmth seep through him, his hands resting gently against Yeongsoo’s chest. He could feel the steady beat of his heart, and it was oddly reassuring.
For a moment, they stayed like that, wrapped in each other embrace, letting the silence speak for them. Then, Haeun’s voice broke the stillness. "Do you think... we could stay like this, even just for tonight?"
"...."
For one night? They did it every night, Yeongsoo chuckled softly as he placed a soft kiss on Haeun’s forehead.
Yeongsoo tightened his hold, a quiet smile touching his lips. "As long as you want, Haeun," he murmured softly. "I’m not going anywhere."
The next morning, they received a call from the hospital. The nurse’s voice was laced with urgency as she explained, "There’s been a change in Suho. You should come quickly."
Anxiety twisted in Haeun’s chest as they made their way to the hospital. When they entered Suho’s room, Haeun stopped in his tracks. Suho sat on the edge of the bed, posture rigid, his eyes cold as they scanned the room. It was as if the warmth had drained out of him, replaced by an aloof, guarded air that was completely unfamiliar.
But then Suho’s gaze landed on Haeun, and he broke into a small, genuine smile. "Haeun-Hyung !" His voice softened, and he reached out, motioning for him to come closer.
"Suho.." Haeun murmured, a mixture of relief and confusion in his voice. He walked over, and as soon as he was within reach, Suho held onto his hand tightly, almost possessively.
"Haeun-Hyung, why’d it take you so long to get here?" Suho’s voice was laced with a hint of the warmth Haeun remembered, but now it carried a possessive edge that hadn’t been there before. "I was waiting for you."
"We came as fast as we could," Haeun replied softly, glancing at Yeongsoo. "I was worried about you, Suho."
The moment Haeun mentioned Yeongsoo, Suho’s eyes flicked over to him, his gaze turning hard and unreadable. "Oh. You brought him," he muttered coldly, the warmth from his voice vanishing. It was as if he barely acknowledged Yeongsoo’s presence, giving him only a brief, dismissive glance.
"..."
"Yeah," Haeun replied gently, a bit thrown by the shift. "Yeongsoo’s been worried too."
Suho scoffed, his expression shifting into a guarded scowl. "Right. Sure he was." He turned back to Haeun, his entire demeanor shifting again, eyes softening as he held onto Haeun’s hand. "But you were really worried, right? You’re here for me?"
"Of course I was." Haeun smiled reassuringly, giving Suho’s hand a gentle squeeze. "I’m here for you."
The nurse approached, cautious, her voice barely a whisper as she leaned toward Haeun. "He’s... different. With everyone else, he’s distant and uncooperative, almost fierce."
Haeun looked back at Suho, feeling a pang of disbelief. "Are you sure?" he murmured, his gaze softening as Suho smiled at him, the gentle warmth returning only when he looked at Haeun.
Suho shifted closer to Haeun, as if everyone else in the room were simply irrelevant. "Don’t listen to them," he whispered, his fingers clinging tighter to Haeun’s. "As long as you’re here, I’m okay."
Suho gave a slight shrug, not quite willing to engage. Instead, he looked up at Haeun with a bright, almost mischievous smile. "Hyung, did you bring anything for me?" he asked sweetly.
Haeun chuckled. "Well, I couldn’t resist. I brought some of your favorite fruit snacks."
Suho’s face lit up, and he eagerly took the snacks from Haeun’s hands, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Yeongsoo was watching. "See, hyung takes care of me," he said pointedly, as if to emphasize the contrast.
Haeun, bemused, just patted his shoulder. "Suho, Yeongsoo-hyung cares too."
But Suho only huffed, sticking close to Haeun. "Only you care," he whispered dramatically, clutching Haeun’s arm with exaggerated loyalty.
"..."
Yeongsoo gritted his teeth, the kid had become even more annoying.
"Haeun...darling it’s time we head back home right? You still need your rest..."
Suho fists clenched and he smiled after a while Haeun-Hyung wouldn’t leave him soon.
"Yes...you’re right.."
Crack!
Suho immediately turned to Haeun, was he really going to leave.
"Haeun-Hyung..you’re leaving?" Suho asked anxiously. Staring at the sheets not daring to look at Yeongsoo.
