Chapter 66: I think I really like you Yeongsoo

By the time 10 a.m. arrived, the soft rays of the morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting a gentle streak of light across the room. Haeun shifted beneath the blankets, his body feeling lighter than it had the night before. His fever had finally broken. He blinked slowly, his vision adjusting to the room around him. His body still ached, but the oppressive heat that had consumed him was gone, leaving only a dull, manageable discomfort in its place.

He turned his head toward the door just as it opened, revealing Yeongsoo, who walked in holding a white bag in his hand. His face looked tired, eyes slightly red from lack of sleep, but there was a soft, relieved smile on his lips when he saw Haeun awake.

"Hey," Haeun croaked, his voice weak but full of warmth. "You got up early."

Yeongsoo’s smile widened a bit, and he quickly crossed the room to Haeun’s side. "I couldn’t sleep much. Thought you’d be hungry by now." He lifted the bag slightly. "I brought some food. Just something light, though. I didn’t want to risk upsetting your stomach."

Haeun’s eyes softened, a wave of affection swelling in his chest. He couldn’t believe how much care Yeongsoo had put into looking after him throughout the night, even though he had been so exhausted himself. "You didn’t have to," Haeun whispered, his fingers reaching out toward Yeongsoo.

"I know," Yeongsoo replied, his voice equally soft as he placed the bag down and took Haeun’s hand. "But I wanted to." giving it a soft kiss.

There was a beat of silence, both of them just looking at each other, the weight of everything unspoken hanging between them. Haeun felt his chest tighten with the surge of emotions—gratitude, guilt— he closed his eyes, squeezing Yeongsoo’s hand gently.

"How are you feeling?" Yeongsoo asked after a moment, his tone shifting to one of gentle concern.

Haeun exhaled slowly, his body still feeling weak but much more manageable than the fever-ridden state he’d been in. "Better," he admitted. "Tired, but... the worst of it’s gone."

Yeongsoo nodded, brushing a thumb over Haeun’s knuckles. "Dr. Choi said you should be fine, but they’re keeping you under observation for the next day or so. Just to make sure you and the baby are okay."

Haeun gave a small, relieved smile as he placed his hand on his stomach, he was getting to his third month now, he hoped they’ll start seeing that baby bump soon.

"I’m sorry," Haeun murmured after a moment, his voice laced with guilt. "I didn’t want you to worry like this."

Yeongsoo shook his head firmly. "Don’t apologize, Haeun. None of this is your fault." His grip on Haeun’s hand tightened, his gaze soft but determined. "I’d do anything for you. You know that, right?"

Haeun nodded, his throat tightening with emotion. "I know. I just... I don’t want you to feel like you have to carry this...burden alone."

"You’re not a burden, Haeun," Yeongsoo whispered. "We’re in this together, okay? You and me."

Haeun’s eyes shimmered slightly, his heart beating wildly. He nodded again and again.

That’s right, he belonged to Yeongsoo and Yeongsoo belonged to him.

As the room fell quiet again, the soft hum of the hospital equipment in the background, Haeun felt a sense of peace settle over him as he relaxed on the bed. He knew there were challenges ahead—his condition, the pregnancy—but with Yeongsoo by his side, he felt like he could face anything.

He would try his possible best to take care of himself, his child and Yeongsoo.

you should eat something before Dr. Choi scolds us both for not taking care of you." He carefully pulled out a small container of porridge, still warm, and a spoon.

Haeun smiled faintly, his body still too tired to protest. "I don’t think I can eat much, but I’ll try."

Yeongsoo sat down beside him, opening the container and stirring the porridge gently. "Just a few bites. You need to keep your strength up," he said, his tone soft but firm.

Haeun watched as Yeongsoo scooped up a spoonful of porridge and held it up to his lips, waiting patiently for him to open his mouth. There was something oddly comforting in the way Yeongsoo moved—deliberate, gentle, like he had all the time in the world just to take care of him. It made Haeun’s heart flutter in a way that surprised him.

"Here," Yeongsoo urged quietly, bringing the spoon closer.

Haeun opened his mouth and took a small bite, the warmth of the porridge soothing the lingering rawness in his throat. It wasn’t much, but the simple act of being cared for like this was enough to make him feel a little stronger.

"How is it?" Yeongsoo asked, watching him carefully.

Haeun swallowed and gave a small nod. "It’s good. Just what I needed."

"Good," Yeongsoo smiled, clearly pleased with himself as he offered another spoonful. "You’ll be back to your old self in no time."

As Yeongsoo continued feeding him, Haeun couldn’t help but notice the tender concentration on his face, the way his eyes flickered with concern but also warmth. The man who had once seemed so distant, so guarded, was now sitting here, carefully tending to him like it was the most natural thing in the world.

A soft, unfamiliar feeling bloomed in Haeun’s chest, something warmer than the gratitude he had always associated with Yeongsoo. He had always admired him, been grateful for the way he stepped up when no one else had, but this was something different. Something... deeper.

He looked up at Yeongsoo between bites, studying his features—the way his eyebrows knit together as he focused, the slight curl of his lips whenever he managed to coax Haeun into eating just a bit more. Haeun’s chest tightened with the realization that he might really like him now, more than just someone to rely on, more than just a partner in this unexpected journey.

The thought made him feel a little breathless, but also calm in a way. Like maybe, just maybe, things could work out between them after all.

"Are you full already?" Yeongsoo’s voice broke through his thoughts, a teasing lilt to his tone as he noticed Haeun’s momentary distraction.

Haeun blinked, realizing he had stopped mid-bite, the spoon still hovering near his lips. He quickly shook his head, a faint blush creeping up his neck. "No, just... thinking."

Yeongsoo raised an eyebrow but didn’t push. "Thinking about what?" he asked playfully, offering another spoonful. "How good of a job I’m doing at taking care of you?"

Haeun rolled his eyes, trying to hide the sudden warmth in his cheeks. "Something like that," he muttered, taking the bite of porridge.

He watched the way Yeongsoo’s brow furrowed slightly in concentration, the way his hands moved with such quiet care. There was a tenderness to everything Yeongsoo did, a side of him that wasn’t loud or boastful but was always present. He had never seen this side of him so clearly before—never really noticed how much of his strength came from this quiet protectiveness.

It hit Haeun suddenly, like a slow realization washing over him in waves.

I... really like him, Haeun thought, almost startled by the simplicity of the truth. It wasn’t just gratitude or relief—it wasn’t just admiration for the way Yeongsoo had handled everything, or the fact that he had never once turned his back on him despite how complicated their situation had become.

It was something deeper, more personal. Haeun’s chest tightened as he realized how much he had come to rely on Yeongsoo, not just out of necessity, but because he wanted him there—because it felt right when he was. There was a warmth between them that went beyond duty or obligation, something softer, more vulnerable. It had crept up on him when he wasn’t looking.

Haeun’s fingers tightened slightly in the blanket, a faint blush creeping up his cheeks. He wasn’t ready to say it out loud—not yet—but the truth of it lingered there, heavy in his chest, waiting to be acknowledged.

He really liked Yeongsoo. And more than that—he wanted this feeling to last.
