Chapter 52: Why do you have this on hand? this isn’t a five star restaurant!

As soon as Yeongsoo settled back in the office, there was a slight knock on the door, after that it opened and a parade of employees began trickling in, each one carrying trays of food, drinks, and small gifts.

One by one, they bowed deeply and offered their respect, all with the same overly polite greeting: "Welcome, Madam!."

Haeun’s eyes widened with each new person, his face turning a deeper shade of pink every time they addressed him as Madam. He shot a quick, helpless glance at Yeongsoo, who was barely containing his laughter at the situation.

"Thank you, but you don’t have to—" Haeun started to say, but he was cut off by yet another employee, who gracefully placed a tray of fruit in front of him.

"Madam, please enjoy this seasonal selection of the finest fruits. Would you prefer the tea or the cold drink next?" the employee asked with a serious expression, as if this were the most important decision of the day.

"Cold drink is fine, thank you..." Haeun mumbled, completely out of his element.

Another employee followed with a towering plate of pastries. "Madam, here are our best croissants, flown in from Paris this morning. We hope they meet your high standards!."

"Flown in?!" Haeun muttered under his breath, his eyes wide. "This is a bit much."

By now, Yeongsoo was leaning back in his chair, arms crossed, thoroughly entertained by the chaos unfolding before him. He didn’t try to correct anyone or stop the employees, simply watching as Haeun squirmed under the relentless barrage of attention.

Another server entered, balancing a tray of what looked like gourmet chocolates. "Madam, for your sweet tooth," the server announced proudly.

Haeun blinked, staring at the sheer mountain of snacks building in front of him. "I—I’m good, really, I don’t need—"

The next employee entered before he could finish, carrying a selection of fancy wines and sparkling water. "Madam, if you’d like a drink to accompany your meal..."

Haeun was practically sinking into his chair now, his cheeks flaming. "What is this, a banquet? Do I look like I need this much food?"

"Apparently, you look like royalty," Yeongsoo snickered from his seat, thoroughly amused by the entire ordeal. "Don’t fight it. Just accept the VIP treatment, Madam Cheon."

Haeun glared at him, but before he could come up with a retort, another server appeared with what looked like an entire charcuterie board. "Madam, for your enjoyment, please."

"Charcuterie?!" Haeun almost yelped, his hands instinctively rising to his head as if to shield himself from the endless stream of offerings.

"Why do you have this on hand? This is a office, not a five-star restaurant!" Haeun blurted out, clearly overwhelmed.

The employees just bowed deeply again, as if Haeun’s protest was the most elegant thing they’d ever heard, and retreated after setting down the latest tray.

"PLEASE ENJOY YOUR MEAL MADAM!"

By the time the room cleared, Haeun was surrounded by a veritable buffet of luxury food and drinks. He stared at the spread, then at Yeongsoo, who was wiping away his tears of laughter.

"You planned this, didn’t you?" Haeun muttered, narrowing his eyes at Yeongsoo.

"I swear I didn’t," Yeongsoo said between laughs. "But I’m glad I didn’t stop them. I haven’t had this much fun in a while."

"..."

"Try laughing one more time!"

Haeun pinched his brows as he stared at the platter, now that it was in front of him, they looked so good to eat.

"Can I eat these?"

Yeongsoo barely restrained himself from saying Yes my employees wouldn’t dare to harm you — But when he remembered what had been happening recently, he sighed and shook his head.

"Wait for a while, let me confirm— though my employees wouldn’t dare to hurt you.."

Yeongsoo’s laughter faded, and his expression turned serious as he pressed the intercom button on his desk. "Dohyun," he said firmly, leaning forward, "get me the list of ingredients and the names of the cooks who made all this food. I also want to know where the items were ordered from."

There was a brief silence on the other end before Dohyun’s voice crackled through, professional and slightly confused. "All of it, boss?"

"Yes, every. single. dish. The fruits, the croissants, the charcuterie, even the damn chocolates," Yeongsoo replied, his tone sharpening. "I need everything. And I want it in under ten minutes."

Haeun blinked at him, confused. "Is that really necessary? I mean, it’s just food—"

"Trust me," Yeongsoo said, glancing at Haeun. "With everything going on lately, it’s better to be cautious. I don’t dare to take chances when it comes to you."

Haeun’s face softened a bit, touched by the concern, but he still felt awkward surrounded by the extravagant spread of delicacies. "I guess, but it feels kind of... extreme."

"Extreme is my middle name," Yeongsoo said with a wry smile. "Besides, I’d rather be sure than regret later."

About five minutes later, Dohyun burst into the room, holding a tablet in one hand and several documents in the other. He was clearly out of breath, but still managed to bow respectfully. "Boss, I have everything you requested. The list of ingredients, the suppliers, and the names of the chefs involved."

Haeun raised his eyebrows, clearly impressed by his efficiency. "Wow, you weren’t kidding about the ten minutes. Yeongsoo be sure to give him a raise, at least 5% more."

"..."

Dohyun had invisible tears of joy as he bowed, he had an angel for a madam.

"Sure, Dohyun how lucky can you get. You get a 5% raise for the next six months," Yeongsoo muttered, scrolling through the details Dohyun handed him.

After a while he set it down and turned to Dohyun. "If this took any longer, I would’ve made them personally cook the next batch in front of us."

Dohyun remained silent, but his eyes flicked to the giant spread of food, his expression unreadable. He was clearly used to his boss’s demands, but Haeun couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the guy.

"Everything checks out," Yeongsoo finally said, putting the tablet down. "Imported ingredients, reputable chefs. No red flags."

Haeun sighed in relief but still looked a bit hesitant. "So, it’s safe to eat?"

Yeongsoo nodded. "Perfectly safe. I wouldn’t let you eat anything that wasn’t."

"Good to know," Haeun mumbled, eyeing the charcuterie board. "Because honestly, I’ve been eyeing that cheesecake for the past five minutes."

Yeongsoo chuckled. "Go ahead, Madam. Enjoy your feast."

Haeun shot him a glare but couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at his lips. "One more ’Madam’ out of you, and I’m throwing this croissant at your head."

Dohyun bowed as he practically skipped out of the office, a 5% rate for the next 6 months? The madam had come down from Heaven.

He could finally buy the house for his Honey.
