Chapter 37: He’s been nauseous all morning
After a few more minutes of testing the game, Haeun leaned back in his chair and removed his headphones, glancing over at Taeun.
"Hey, Tae," Haeun said casually, "can you grab me the computer I was using before? The one I left in the office last time I was here. I want to take it home and set up there."
Taeun raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "You want to take it home, hyung? What for? You’ve already got your hands full with other.... projects."
Haeun shrugged, glancing at Yeongsoo briefly before turning back to Taeun. "I’ve got some extra time now, and I want to tinker with the game on my own. Besides, it’s easier to do it at home, especially if I’m not feeling great."
Taeun nodded, still smirking, as he stood up. "Alright, I’ll grab it for you. I’ve been keeping it safe for whenever you were ready to dive back in."
He walked over to the corner of the room where a gaming computer was set up, unplugged it, and carefully packed it up into a case. "You sure you don’t want to stay a bit longer, hyung?" he teased, lifting the case. "I’m sure the office will miss you."
Haeun chuckled, shaking his head. "I’ll visit when I need to, but I need to get this game running smoothly. It’ll be easier to focus without distractions."
Taeun handed the case over to Yeongsoo with a knowing grin. "Just don’t spend all night on it, okay? You need rest, too."
Haeun nodded, as he reached for the case feeling the familiar weight of the equipment. "Yeah, yeah, I know," he replied, flashing a smile.
Eunja, who had been quietly observing, chimed in. "If you need any help testing or debugging while you’re at home, just let me know, boss. I’d be happy to assist."
Haeun smiled gratefully at her. "Thanks, Eunja. I’ll probably take you up on that once I start making some tweaks."
As they prepared to leave, Yeongsoo quietly slipped his hand back into Haeun’s, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Ready to head out?" he asked softly.
Haeun nodded as he leaned against Yeongsoo, thanks to him he was able to withstand the pheromones around. "Yeah, let’s go."
With Taeun and Eunja sending them off with waves and good-natured smiles, Haeun and Yeongsoo made their way back to the elevator, the case tucked securely at Yeongsoo’s side.
As the doors slid shut, Taeun’s voice echoed faintly in the background, teasing one last time. "Don’t forget to show me your sect later, hyung!"
Haeun grinned, shaking his head as he turned to face Yeongsoo. "I think I’ve got some competition on my hands."
Yeongsoo smirked. "Sounds like it. But I have a feeling you’ll come out on top."
"Let’s hope so," Haeun replied, his confidence growing as the elevator descended, carrying them back to the main lobby and out into the fresh air.
As soon as they stepped out of the company building, the fresh air hit Haeun, but instead of relief, his face paled instantly. He felt the nausea surge violently through his body, much stronger than before.
Without a word, he let go of Yeongsoo’s hand and rushed toward a nearby corner, barely making it before he doubled over and threw up. His body shook as he tried to catch his breath, but the effort left him weak and trembling.
"Haeun!" Yeongsoo called, immediately rushing after him. He was at Haeun’s side in seconds, his eyes wide with concern.
Haeun groaned softly, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "I’m fine," he mumbled, but his words were weak and breathless.
Suddenly, his legs gave out beneath him, and he collapsed onto the ground, his vision blurring as dizziness overtook him.
Yeongsoo caught him just in time, gently lowering him to the ground and cradling his body in his arms. His normally calm demeanor cracked as panic flashed in his eyes. "Haeun, stay with me," he said firmly, his voice laced with worry. "You’re not fine. We need to get you to a hospital."
Haeun weakly tried to protest, but the exhaustion was too much. His eyes fluttered, barely able to stay open, his breathing shallow.
Without hesitation, Yeongsoo pulled out his phone and called for help, his heart racing as he held Haeun closer, feeling helpless as he watched his lover slipping into unconsciousness.
"Haeun, hang in there," he whispered, his grip tightening around him. "You’re going to be okay. Just hold on."
Without wasting a second, Yeongsoo scooped him up, ignoring the concerned looks of passersby. His expression was hard, focused only on getting Haeun to the hospital as fast as possible.
"Haeun, hold on," he muttered under his breath, his voice tense with urgency.
He rushed through the building’s exit, his mind racing as he carefully placed Haeun into the passenger seat of his car. Not bothering to fasten his own seatbelt, he sped off toward the hospital, weaving through traffic with frightening precision.
As they approached the hospital, the anxiety gnawed at Yeongsoo. Every red light, every delay felt like it was stealing time. Finally, the large white building came into view. Without even parking properly, he swung the car into the emergency entrance, jumping out and pulling Haeun back into his arms.
"Help! I need help!" Yeongsoo shouted as he burst through the ER doors, carrying Haeun.
Immediately, medical staff rushed to his side, guiding him toward a gurney as nurses and doctors swarmed them. Yeongsoo, was unwilling to let go of Haeun, so he followed closely as they wheeled him into the emergency area.
A nurse gently stopped him from going further. "Sir, we’ll take care of him now. Please wait in the waiting area."
Reluctantly, Yeongsoo released Haeun’s hand, his heart pounding in his chest. He nodded stiffly and stepped back, watching as they rushed Haeun down the corridor, disappearing into a room.
A few tense minutes passed before a nurse approached Yeongsoo in the waiting area. She had a clipboard in hand, her expression calm yet serious.
"Excuse me, sir," she began gently. "Can you tell us what happened to him before he collapsed? We need as much information as possible."
Yeongsoo took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. His voice was low but firm. "He’s been nauseous all morning. He barely ate anything and kept throwing up. But then he insisted on going to work, it wasn’t anything strenuous, he just played some games, and after we left, he suddenly throw up and...collapsed."
The nurse nodded, scribbling notes on her clipboard. "Has he been under any unusual stress? Any recent illnesses?"
"No, he hasn’t been sick," Yeongsoo replied, running a hand through his hair. "He was just feeling off today, but I didn’t think it was anything serious.
